There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

I enjoy all kinds of movies, although I think I've got a reputation around here of being rather elitist. For example, I liked Guardians of the Galaxy, but I've been struggling with a review of it because that's about it, I liked it, but I don't enthusiastically love it.

However, I just got back from a film that blew me away in a totally different fashion. Boyhood is the best, most honest and realistic "slice-of-life" movie I've ever seen. I've long been a fan of Richard Linklater, from Slacker, to Dazed and Confused, to Waking Life, to A Scanner Darkly, to Bernie...and most especially the "Before" trilogy (Sunrise, Sunset, Midnight).

For those who may not have heard of it yet, Boyhood was filmed over a 12 year period with the same actors in the roles of mother and father (Patricia Arquette and Ethan Hawke) and son and daughter (Ellar Coltrane and Lorelei Linklater). Mason Evans Jr. grows up before your eyes, from age 6 to when he enters college at 18.

It currently boasts a 99% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with 91% audience approval. It deserves it. I just rated it 5-of-5 there and gave it a 10 on IMDb. My site is devoted to science fiction and fantasy, but if I decided to branch out to mainstream material, Boyhood would be the kind of film I would review.

I do not see anything wrong with having different tastes. Seeing how much of what you watch I would not, seems to me that it is just as likely I am suffering from a short and simple palette and you are just more in tune with the arts. At least as far as film goes. As for Galaxy I can tell I will enjoy it just from the trailer.
