christmas break....
Friday, December 08, 2006

okay, so i found out a couple weeks ago that i'm going away for christmas break to my uncles house. wyou might say, why is that so important...well, it's important because my uncle owns a hunting lodge that we stay at every year. i love it up there. their is 2 houses, one that everyone stays in and the other houses the kitchens. it's pretty cool. everything is all wooden and theirs a fire place.

the problem with this trip however is that i will be stuck up there with no internet, no TV, ne cellphone signal, and only my crazy family to keep me company...not the best of times exactly. not at all.

so i'm not jumping for joy about spending a week in a room with my annoying cousin who thinks she's better then i am just because her parents are rich. infact i'm trying to get sick do i don't have to go.

the last time we were at the lodge for christmas i was 7 and it was the year of the stomach flu. i was miserable. and it was also the year that my grandma made us sit for family portraits...in velvet dresses that were way to tight...the owrst part, we were infront of the roaing fireplace.

add all that information and you get me as a young child running for the bathroom in between picture...

but nothing was open while we were there so my parents couldn't get me cold maedicine or sick food or soup. it was hell. i really don't know why my great ants and my grandma thought it was a good idea to stick me infront of the fire with flash bulbs going off in my eyes every second.

one day i am so going to pay them back.

the thing about this year is that i really just want to stay home and be witih my friends.

the only thing that you can do when your out in the wilderness like i will be is...go to walmart. yeah i said it. my cousins and i go to walmart to buy magazines and coloring books so that we don't go crazy while we're up there.

oh, and did i mention that most likely their will be huning going on while i'm there... yeah, i wil be waking up to gunshots around 5 am EVERY morning.

i'm a teenager, i need atleast 10 hours of sleep ever night of i don't function.

and after i wake up at five am, i get to make the run across the courtyard to the kitchens in my pajamas and rubber bottomed slippers. that is the highlight of my day for sure.

however, their are a couple things i do really like about the lodge. the first thing are the couches in the living room. they are over 100 years old, made out of leather, and the comfiest couches ever! i routinely fall asleep on one of them every night while my parents talk.

the other thing i like about going away to the lodge are the kitchens. because they feed 20 to 30 full grown men every day it's a restaurant quality kitchen. i'm serious, the stove top has 12 places to cook with pans, their are 3 ovens, 2 sinks, a walk in freezer and fridge, the coffee makers are industrial and they have about 6 of them, the toasters each make 12 pieces at a time. and i absolutly love it.

when i was little my uncle used to parade us around the HUGE island in the middle like we were in a parade on thanksgiving, until the parents yelled at us to get out because of all the hot and sharp stuff around. it's so much fun to cook in there because it's where all th parents hang out during the day. the dining room is huge too, it seats like 50 or so people. i cant tell you the amout of times i've hidden under the table and colored. infact, i think i did it last year to get away from everyone.

so the lodge has a love hate relationship with me. i love it for how pretty and desolate it is. but i also hate it for having no cell phone signal, no internet, and housing my family.

i can't hate it entirely. i spent my first christmas their. i was the first baby and the family spent most meals passing me around and cooing over me. when i cried uncle bob would get up from his christmas eve dinner and walk me around the kitchen. it's sweet really. and when i was three i had one of those things that babies could walk around in, it had wheels and a table. the problem was however that the dog kept eating my cheerios off the table. mom didn't catch him till the 6th or 7th time.

i really can't wait to see the huge tree they always have decorated in all our old ornaments. and then later i'll get to go help my uncle feed the fish in his pond.

another thing...my dad, this year he;s going to stake out the pond near the kitchens and finally figure out what's living in it. i think it's the lockness monster. my dad thinks it's a snapping turtle. i really don't think i'll know what it is. but i names him charlie...so i love him.
