Farewell to Writing Firefly Fanfic
Friday, October 10, 2008

Well, here I am at the end of the story. Some folks, I’m sure, will be glad to see that it’s finally done, though I’d like to think that most folks will be a little sad to see it end. I can honestly say that I’ve enjoyed the process of watching the story evolve over the course of many months. When I started writing Firefly fanfic back in April of 2007, I never would have imagined that it would become such an enjoyable past-time for me, nor such a rewarding one.

The people I’ve met through the work and the joy they’ve brought into my life I cannot begin to adequately describe. Prior to writing the first fic, “Voices”, I had not written anything creatively other than office memos for twenty years. So, I am eternally grateful for those kind souls who encouraged me to continue writing in those early days when the reviews were few and far between. As the storyline progressed, more and more people began to weigh in with their thoughts and opinions, and I treasured each one. The writing itself is a tremendous pleasure, but the reviews add spice to my life that is much appreciated.

The support of my work has been a determining factor in encouraging me to go forward with projects of original fiction that have been floating around in my head for years, begging to be written down. I just want to say thank you to all the people who have helped me hone my skills with their comments and observations. Hopefully, I will be able to use what I have learned from you to make my original fiction all that it can be. To be fair to the new projects, I will not be writing Firefly fanfic for awhile, as I only have a certain amount of time each day for writing. Wish me luck.

Though I will be concentrating on writing other things, I’m sure I’ll find time to check back into the Firefly ‘verse to read all the great stories that others are writing. I am, after all, addicted to these wonderful characters, who have been talking in my head since I first saw Firefly. And one day, perhaps they’ll whisper another story in my ear as well. If so, I’m sure I will be forced to write it down and post it. Addiction is a cruel mistress. Until then, I just want to say that it has been a real pleasure. As always, happy reading and writing to you all.

Would it pain you to hear I never read your work? I hardly ever read fanfic, namely. And yet I feel this community has just been delt a great blow by your leaving. :( It feels like the end of an era: Firefly is over. We already knew this, of course, but I've been hanging on for dear life, I guess. So, very sad to see you go, but I'm grateful your work meant so much to so many.

Gorram it!

I will miss waking up to see what wonderful fic you've posted. You've kept me on the edge of my seat for a while now and I don't know what to do. Maybe go back and reread all of it.

I hope that you are successful in your original work (and let us know how it's going and provide a link when you're finished or tell us where we can actually buy it).

I'm sure you'll be lurking around some and we'll be patiently waiting for you to pop up. Hopefully your addiction will rear it's head again one day and we'll have some more shiny Firefly fic from you.

WAKEUPSOON

I only came across your work in about May, when I first joined fanfiction.net, (before I even knew about fireflyfans.net!) and since then I have never looked back. Your writing style is wonderful: not only does it keep people hooked, but its believable in a way Science-Fiction can't always be. You will be sorely missed, never forget that, but I hope these other stories go well for you. If you do post them online, be sure to send a link!
Missing you already,

You will be missed very much for your regular and trusty story delivery. It gave me something to look forward to each day you were posting. Even though some stories were very quick, you always include the unexpected twists and turns that always made them unique to you. I still think that "In the Garden" is one of the best AU fics out there, so whatever comes out of your unique viewpoint next I'm sure will be special, and I'lllook forward to reading. Thanks for all the good work and the fun you gave, and hope your next venture is even more rewarding.
