British High Court Rules on Lap Dance Tax

In a decision that could have a chilling effect on the activities of young lap dancing women in the UK, the High Court ruled that the nude and semi-nude women who bump, grind and otherwise gyrate on the laps of paying males are responsible for the VAT (”value added tax”) on the fees that they collect.

Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs will now be responsible for collecting a percentage of each light caress, seductive squeeze, and inadvertent cop from independent contractors such as Brandy, Letissa, Porshe, and Monique.

Customer: How much is a dance?
Stripper: If I’m topless it’s 10 pounds, if I’m nude it’s 20 pounds, and if another girl joins us it’s 50 pounds.
Customer: Bring it on!
Stripper: Oh yeah, don’t forget to add 17.5% VAT.
Customer: Buzz kill.

So Parliament is in the pimp biz.

How our liberties have been destroyed

This Labour Government, in ways that would shock its socialist forebears, is systematically acquiring the tools of a totalitarian state in a way not even Orwell could have predicted.

The price we are paying in the loss of individual freedoms is awesome.

But so is the £34billion cost to the taxpayer of running the likes of ContactPoint and the ID cards database over the next decade, according to the Convention.

Without fanfare, ministers have slipped powers into the Policing and Crime Bill for councils to force any premises selling alcohol to install the cameras and hand over any relevant footage to the police.
But, if passed, it will mean there is virtually no aspect of public life not under surveillance.

Police already have 4.2million cameras trained on the streets, numberplate recognition systems watching our roads and are even, as we revealed earlier this week, insisting drinkers should be spied upon with CCTV in their local pub.
Save for places of worship, nowhere is sacred or private. Everyone is a potential suspect.

Yet are the watchers prepared to be watched themselves, to check they are not abusing the pervasive powers which they have amassed? Of course not.

In a display of dizzying hypocrisy, ministers this week introduced a law which makes it a criminal offence, punishable by ten years in prison, to take a picture of a police officer.

Looks like the cops will be arresting themselves.

Big Brother spy planes that track the Taliban may soon hover over your home

Pilotless planes used to track the Taliban could soon be hovering over our streets, it has emerged.

Remote-controlled drones are already used widely by the military. Now ministers believe they are likely to become 'increasingly useful' for police work.

Armed with heat-seeking cameras, the Unmanned Aerial Vehicles would hover hundreds of feet in the air, gathering intelligence and watching suspects.

In theory, their advantages are clear. They are cheaper and quieter than conventional helicopters, can circle their target for hours without refuelling - and they don't get bored on long surveillance missions.

However, their use is likely to further fuel concerns about our march towards a Big Brother state. Britain already has more CCTV cameras than the rest of Europe put together.
