Morena's New Series: V
ADAMANTHEA

|

When speaking as part of the Women in the Whedonverse panel at Orlando's FX convention, Morena Baccarin discussed the subject of ' V '..
"I just shot the pilot," she says, "which I'm looking forward to seeing whether I'm in it or not... I don't know if you remember the show, but I remember sitting up one night with my brother and we were both petrified when their faces peeled off. [ Thankfully ] I didn't have to do any prosthetics."
"My character's name is Anna," she continues, "and she's modeled a little bit after the Diana character in the original. From what I remember, Diana was vicious... She was eating hamsters and killing people. We toned it down a little bit and they're a little friendlier to the human race when they first arrive... I can't reveal too much about it, because the series isn't picked up yet. It's just a pilot and we're waiting to hear. But there's some sick stuff in it, which is pretty great."

When is it coming on the tube?
I was there at FX Int'l. too and sat in the second row for the panel. I posted pictures of it all back in April. That was some panel huh? The absolute cream of the beautiful sci-fi crop in my opinion. I was in a small corner of Heaven.

Spring 2010, is when we can expect to see Ms. Baccarin on our TVs. (As Anna, of course.)
Also, I believe Mr. Tudyk will be acting as one of the investigating FBI agents...

Seems pointless, Morena or no Morena.
I remember the original series, but it hasn't aged well in my memory, unlike usual bits of nostalgia. I got more disappointed episode 2 onwards because episode one was practically identical to the first chapter of "Childhood's End" by Arthur C. Clarke.
Can't anyone come up with something new?

Gotta agree there. I'm sure the direct comparisons will be made to the re-imagined BSG, but my guess that's entirely WHY this is being done. BSG was so good, why not give this a chance too, right? I mean, if they do what was done to BSG......

No offense to Morena, but the words " cheap " and " knock off " come to mind when thinking of 'V', some nearly 30 yrs after the original.

Kristin from E!Online is calling it "the best pilot we've seen in, well, forever."

Alan doesn't have a big role in the pilot, but hopefully that'll change as the series progresses. As for Morena, hopefully she won't get too criticized by veteran V fans. Just because she's not Jane Badler doesn't mean she can't play the part just as well.
It is a shame that remakes are becoming so popular, because it makes me nervous that a Firefly remake might pop up sooner or later.

She made it hard to hate Adria, for me at least, but I think that makes for a better villian. The ones that look innocent, but really...

I'm torn about this. I hope instead of a remake they make tv movies or a mini series or even direct to DVD. If they do a remake, I will try to watch it. Hope it's up to the old one's standards and see what they come up with. There's lots of room in the 'Verse to play...maybe there are other stories.
I couldn't enjoy it without Joss and/or the original cast, but I have to admit I'd be curious to see how they'd play with the story and where they'd take it. Maybe it would become one of those next generation shows.
But here I am getting ahead of myself. I too would much rather prefer any form of continuing the saga without any major changes, such as TV or Direct-to-DVD movies (it worked for Stargate). The show was ahead of its time, so who knows, maybe the time is coming...
