Or perhaps he got his name from his love of using a railroad spike? Just a thought.

Really, it's okay to not like Buffy or Angel...no reason to get all pre-teen about it. But are those universes that much harder to believe than Firefly's?

Yeah, Spike doesn't even have spikey hair, Angel does (sort of). Spike's got more like helmet hair that's glued to his head. I always wonder why people make judgments about shows they really know nothing about. Is it just because they can't get past the surface of them, or are afraid people will judge them by what they watch? If so, I feel bad for them.

(By the way, Rugbug, I wasn't talking about you, in case it came off that way. Just borrowing your quote.)

"I'm having one of those things - a headache with pictures."

"Of course I'm right. And if I'm not, may we all be horribly crushed from above somehow."

Firefly = Good

Buffy/Angel = Kinda corny (sorry)

Entirely pointy.

Spike. He reacts to crisis with earnest bravado, while Angel second-guesses and broods. Angel brooded for like seventy years. That's lame. Spike takes action. Spike won his soul back. Spike wins, Angel worries.

Overall, I would have to say Angel.

I love Spike, I really do, but I don't think he works as a main character. He's always best when he's sparring off a main character, be it Buffy or Angel. He certainly added to the last season of Angel, although in fairness that series was very funny before he arrived. He just stole all the best lines when he showed up!

Spike was there to highlight the difference between his style and Angel's. Spike is action, Angel is reaction. Spike went and got his soul (although personally I think he initially intended to break Buffy's heart once he had it, but that's another issue!) Angel had his soul forced on him. Does Angel brood and worry more? Of course he does! Spike ~knew~ what was going to happen, and even he was shocked by how he felt, to the point that he actually hurt himself trying to cut it back out. Imagine that being sprung on a creature of utter evil like Angelus without any warning whatsoever. Seventy years of torment sounds about right. But in the end it was Angel's careful planning and willingness to rub shoulders with the bad guys that ... well, saying more would ruin the finale for anyone that hasn't seen it yet, but those who ~have~ seen it know what I mean. Could Spike have carried the same plan off?

As for who is the best looking, this is the point where I admit the person I lust after is Xander, which apparently disqualifies me from any conversation involving the hotness of guys accoring to all my Spike obsessed friends! But Xander, like Spike, is a character that works best in the background rather than in the limelight. They're both incredibly funny, they both had some fantastic storylines and they both grew and changed over the years just like the main characters of each show, but for me they were always there to provide the other point of view, to say the stuff we always wanted to say, to throw a spanner in the works every now and then and to be there for the people they loved when it counted. I don't think either would work half as well as a main character.

I'll go with Spike for 500 Alex.
He's just got a certain quirky humor to him. Although Angel would kick his ass in a fight. Angel's just way too angsty for me. I know Spike got some angstyness but he's just so damn funny in his broding (sp?).
Also Astronauts to Cavemen anyday. Although like Angel Cavemen would beat the astonauts down like whiney

An I carried such a torch

OK so I have now bought and am most of the way through season 5 and gotta say- SPIKE ROCKS ... but its the way Spike and Angel spark off each other that really makes it- as Joss says in one of the commentaries "We finally found the right girl for Angel ... and that's Spike."

My particular favourite:

Select to view spoiler:

Spike sticking a whopping great sword through Angel's middle just to kill the creature clinging to Angel's back - genius

Oh god! I can SO relate ... I lusted hideously after Riley which, according to everyone I know, makes me unfit as a human being!!

After him I probably would have to go for Giles ... But that's only cos I'm British ...

Back when the show was on air and the "Angel or Xander" question came up, it was always Xander for me. Give me funny and cute over tortured and sexy any day. But then, sadly, Season 4,5,6,7 happened and Xander "expanded." I know, I know...it's terribly shallow of me, but I like my TV men to be a bit more in shape. I think Nicholas Brendan got married sometime in season 4.... BTW, Angel lost some appeal as he "expanded" as well. DB is back to fighting weight on his new show, though.

Teinen: I agree that Lorne is strange and ocassionally annoying. I have never been a fan of that character and I am really not fond of him when he is singing. But he does have some good dialogue and a perspective that is interesting.

I know - it's awful, isn't it!! I feel kinda dirty but then, that makes it all the better ...

Could never quite believe the Angel Season 5 idea that the Bufster is "studying" in Europe - "What's she studying?" I cry - as I recall she had some difficulty with the English language let alone any foreign tongue and I don't remember her being a Veronica Mars or Ryan Atwood in the class room (for those not up on the best shows on telly - I mean someone who never seems to study or even be in school - due to spending all night detecting/ beating people up - and yet still a genius) ...

Don't know about coincidence, CIA, though I obviously believe that we are so in sync its scary ... but certainly the region 2 DVDs only just got released over here - I had it on pre-order...

Feel like a bit of a cheat as stopped watching Angel on TV half way through season 4 - but so desperate to see season 5 that couldn't wait till I can afford seasons 3&4 as well ...

I've seen 1 & 2, but I actually skipped 3 & 4, I just saw Buffy's final season for the first time last month, and yearned for some continuation, hense Angel 5. 1 & 2 were good, but 5 is AWESOME!
I understand 3 & 4 were all creepy and uneven with the pregnant Charisma and all, so I might not see them....
But Angel and Spike, what a team!

Yeah - I too liked Angel 1 &2 - Particularly Pylia, for some strange reason, but then absolutely HATED the Connor crap and found it hard to bother watching ... I watched the end of season 3 briefly as was desperate for Angel and Cordy to finally get together - was so incensed when they didn't that it's hard to describe - Season 4, despite Gina Torres, was just cruddy - But you're right Angel and Spike, coupled with the welcome return of Harmony and Fred getting a backbone, brings season 5 back on form ...

I'd personally take both!! I think Angel is cool for his sexy broodiness and proficiency with weapons, and I like Spike cause he's a smartass, sexy, funny, and he likes to fight. As for Angel and Spike onscreen together...pure gold!!! I loved those scenes esp in Angel season 5, could they be any funnier playing off of each other? And the jealousy between them on both series, pure Jossy goodness!! I love it!!

And the Host's head in the basket ....maybe I need to watch 'em again *chuckle*

Get a bucket of popcorn and a buzz on; it's the best thing this side of Buffy!

Watch Evil Dead 2 first. Its basically a remake of Evil Dead 1.

And Army of Darkness is one of the greatest films of all time. Bruce Campbell is one of a kind.
