What is this strange joke of Morena beeing drunk all about?

It's hinted...
- In the audio comment of the Serenity pilot
- A couple of times in the extended gagreel of Firefly and the gagreel of the BDM

Could somebody please enlighten me? Is this nothing more but a little running gag or has it a serious background?

This is another one of Nathan's running gags - Summer is always screwing up, Jewel is a bitch, Morena is a drunk... he's so mean. And funny.

What I'm more curious about is the part in the gag reel where Nathan starts a line from a cut scene, then there's no audio and he and Morena dance. Anyone know the story behind that?

Apparently there was music in the original one but they cut it out for the DVD because of copyrights I guess.

Ah! That makes sense. Do we know what song they used?

If not, that's fine. I can always find a song that I like and play it instead..

When I first watched it, I was thinking there was something wrong with my DVD, but then the next "blooper" came up with sound, so I figured the sound was gone for a reason.

Disconcerting for sure!

If memory serves, I think it was that advert that comes on, when Nathan is holding up his gun on Miranda. He triggers an ad to start on a screen. And the song we heard when he starts dancing sounds exactly like that. But it just doesn't make sense to me why they don't play it.

Thanks, PR! It's too bad they couldn't put *something* there. It's just so weird to have no sound at all!

Tell me about it. My friend thought there was a fault with her DVD at first.

Well, what can I say - it was your idea

Link (~1,5 MB): www.botttos.de/Mainpage/Open/Firefly/danceSE.wmv

This is just for fun and I used the low quality gagreel floating through the net. I didn't even try to synchronize it. Still, it would make a nice promo for my music page

There could be a more technical reason. In film the picture and the sound are recorded by different machines and matched up in post production. (Trivia: That's the reason for the clapboard at the start of the scene...match up the sound of the snap with the frame where the board hits and everything else matches.)

If the sound guys stopped their recorder but the camerman kept filming there would be no audio to include with the blooper.

There was a couple of clips in the gag reel when Nathan and Morena had flubbed something, and when they did they yelled, "Summer!" I often wondered why they yelled her name...so I guess this is the reason?

Well, the thing is, that the scene that he starts dancing in comes after they see the big revealing vid. The line "I seen so much death" starts a scene with Inara (which is why Morena is there with him and no one else is). This scene is in the novelization, but got cut from the movie (and I didn't see it as a deleted scene, though I might be wrong on that...)

And besides, you can tell it's a blooper by Morena's reaction. In other words, there was no "dance routine" in the script, it was just one of Nathan's "O snap, I flubbed up" outtakes...

I read a recap of one of the conventions and this came up. Summer said something about people yelling her name when they messed up and how she thought it was just them teasing her 'cause she was the "new girl" when it came to acting and movies and stuff. Morena then said that the reason they actually yelled "Summer!" was because Summer just never screwed up and always did everything perfectly so they yelled her name as a joke when something messed up as if it were her fault even though she barely ever did anything wrong.
