So, okay, didn't mail out the fabric Saturday, I just didn't have time. But, I am going to mail it out today.

Right now, in point of fact!

Seryn, if you keep volunteering to make eveyrone corsets, you'll be able to quit your job and make corsets for a living!

Well, a pretty envelope!

If I had had more time to think about it, I would have sent you a package with some nummy treats, but I was a bit rushed.

Isn't getting mail great! I (finally) got a package last night from my mother I'd been waiting over 2 months for.

Morning!
So...two months left. Oy. Anyone else freaking out yet? I've got a lot left to build (thankfully, no corsets...but I will have to modify one)...
As for machines, I have two going at the moment; one for leather, the other for cloth. All I need is a roll-y chair so I can go between them easier!
I am looking forward to seeing all the pretty costumes!

I have a rolly chair in my office here and I roll all over the place. It's fantastic and I'm convinced it's a good workout for my legs because I do have nice thigh muscles.

I've also mastered the roll back towards bookshelf, spin, grab what I need off the shelf, roll back to desk. It's tricky, but looks really cool if done right.

Really random, I know.

Not freaking out about costumes, yet, Tristan, more freaking out about Jayne hats. I have LOTS to knit.

Rolly chairs and I do not have the best of history together. I would always manage to find the one piece of something on the floor, catch a wheel, and fall flat on my back...much to the amusement of those around me. Since then, I have stuck to wheel-less chairs when I am working on costumes.

Ah, Serenity, almost forgot about all the knitting...if it helps, I can wait until after D*C for mine.

lol. Sorry, but the mental picture is FUNNY!

And don't worry about your hat. It's not the ones I have existing orders for that I'm concerned about. It's about seeing how many I can make before D*C to sell.

I sat for over an hour in a Drs office this morning. Brought my knitting with me. Nearly finished off another hat!

The mental picture is probably funnier than what really happened...so, let's stick with the mental images, ok? Less embarassment that way.

Depending on time, I may make an extra Browncoat to bring...but I have no idea about selling it. Is a booth required, or registration as a seller...? If you have any ideas, could you point me in the right direction?

A knit hat in an hour? Whoa.

Well, no, it takes me about 2 hrs to knit a Jayne hat, non-stop, but I made very good progress. I was hindered by this adorable little 2 yr old that came up to me and said "What's that?" and then proceeded to talk to me about EVERYTHING for the next 1/2hr. He kept going behind my chair, which was in a good hiding corner, and then popping his head out from one side and I'd say "boo!" and then he's dissolve into giggles. I thought about teaching him to say "Cunning orange hat" but his "Gamma" was standing guard so I dared not.

Yes, the mental picture is very cartoonish and funny. Nothing to be ashamed of. If it makes you feel better, I bent over to pick up a ball to throw to the dog the other day and somehow twisted my ankle and fell down. In front of JadeHand. It was very embarrasing. Wish I could say it's the first time that happened, but I think I have weak ankles because I fall like that a lot.

Don't think of it as falling down...look at it as an exercise in "going to ground"...practicing your ninja skills. See, no one would expect you to disappear into tall grass. Just tell them you are honing your arts!

When I was little, I used to fall down the stairs. A LOT. It got so I am VERY good at it. I have Mad Falling Down the Stairs Skills. I can fall down a complete flight of concrete stairs without so much as a bruise.

Very impressive! See, I'd just end up in the hospital if I tried that. That's why I stick to swinging swords and other various weapons about. Oh, and the sewing. I have received a fair number of injuries from that pasttime, as well. Never learn...

It's this fake suedey stuff. Looks and feels kinda like suede. I fell in love with it and convinced Mai to let me buy it for her.

I found a wonderful site selling saree's at reasonable prices (i.e, cheap enough fo me to afford) I reckon whatever the theme we turn up in them (there was a blue and silver one would go gorgeous with your colouring.

but anyway.

costume progress - i have a hat! the darn thing was sat on my wardrobe the entire time. it fell on the floor yesterday, and i picked it up, and a small lightbulb went ping above my head. it was just a basic dome crowned wide brimmed felt hat - so i unpicked the white decorative stitching and pinned the sides up and boy I am such a jammy git - it cost me 50p from a charity shop.

So now the corsets are trundling along (serenity, i hope you are as tiny as your corset looks! i checked the measurements over and over again, its itty-bitty)
I have a pattern for a quick shirt, and another for a waist coat, i have to find some trews somewhere, and the boots i found cheap just need altering a bit. but what i really really want is one of those belts that go accross the chest (Will and Elizabeth both have them in POTC2) and i cant find them anywhere. Well, i cant find a belt long enough to adapt. hell, being to big and tall i can't find a belt.

Any ideas?

actually, what i'd really really love is boot tops with the turn down bits, Captain jack, and a leather hat, but beggars can't be choosers, so i focused on the chest belt thing, thinking it would be easy.

Ha.

(Now let's try this again, as ME this time.)

ooh, what's the website? I want a saree!!!

I'm sure you measured right, but I'm really not itty bitty. Maybe it just looks tiny cuz it's a corset and it's supposed to squish you up?

As Tristan about the belt that goes across the chest. He might know where to get one. In fact, I think I saw some on one of the pirate costume websites, I just don't remember where.

Try the term "baldric" if you're doing a search. There might be other names, but I'm pretty sure this will get you somewhere.
You may want to hit the SCA (society for creative anachronisms) website and try a couple of their links for research and sources.
Or not!
It could save you a lot of weeding though.

Speaking of corsets squishing you "up", be prepared for clevage you did not know you had and wear it proudly m'dear. Also: breathe from your birthin' place, you can't expand your chest so you need to let everything go with gravity. Soft stomach. Try lying on your back on the floor and placing a book on your bellybutton, then make the book go up and down while you inhale and exhale. That's the spot you're aiming for. If you try to do the chest breathing that everyone is used to you will quickly hyperventilate and pass out.
That book trick I got from a vocal coach trying to teach me how to breathe while singing.
I never knew it would come in so very handy. You use it in yoga too!

I've been singing for years. I know how to breathe properly.

And, this isn't my first corset, either, so I'm prepared for the clevage.
Unfortunately, I always have more than I know what to do with.

But, thank you for "Baldric". The word escaped me, though it usually is part of my vocabulary.

This is a breathing technique called reverse breathing often used in Kung Fu and Chi Gung, I'm willing to teach classes...

Oh goody!! You'll be fine then!
Sorry, I have no idea who you are or what you know and I tend to presume the wearing of functional corsetry and abdominal breathing to be rather esoteric to most. If it came up in everyday conversation on a regular basis I would not have tried to help.
Sodding off now.

You don't have to sodd off!

If I try really hard (since I am so very out of practice) I can get a little circular breathing in, too. Not that that's very useful unless I'm trying to hold a note forever or play the digeridoo.
