Last year at D*C, we played "Shiny". Anytime someone said "shiny" (which happens A LOT when browncoats get together) that person would have to take a drink. It was fun.

Several of these have been worked out for Firefly, not sure where they are, but we could always make up our own. Circle of Death is just much faster, if your goal is Stumbling Drunk.
Firefly drinking game ideas....
How about anytime anyone touches a weapon.
Anytime Simon has trouble talking.
"whore"
"shiny"
"Gorram"
....

I might venture having a shot every time a character adds a line of "Chinese" into the dialogue.

I've kinda sorta given some thought, at times, to ordering the Firefly rpg. Would we possibly have the time to try that out?

oh, any line of chinese is a good one to add.
You wouldn't have to order the RPG, it should be available there. Not sure if we'd have time to play. I own it, but I never finished reading it. I'll have my copy to add the autographs of Summer and Alan. I had all 4 BDHs last year sign their characters in the book. Yes I'm a geek. Please attempt to hide your shock.

er, if it helps, i was intending to bring the official serenity companion book, and get them all to sign their photo's. (theres a nice hafnakedMal picture in there, oh dear, i'll just have to go to another con sometime to get that one signed)

i just thought it would be nicer than the single pics. though i have to get a single pic from Sean for my sister to frame (he is at s3 isn't he? er, loosing the plot.) I though rpg's took who days, and i can't play them anyway, don't have the brain power.

but maybe if you give up the hope of those last few remaining sleeping hours...

Depends on the game. For a short self contained adventure (something along the lines of "Trash") a couple of hours should suffice. Should you get involved in a regular game it could - over a series of individual episodes - last indefinitely.

Sure you do. You RP all over the place here. A pen and paper RPG is the same thing only with dice.

I don't know ANYTHING about RPGs except the guy selling the book last year tried to convince the other Serenity and I we had to have it because it was named after us and we tried to convice him to give it to us for really cheap because it was named after us.

I think he eventually cut the other Serenity a deal and she bought it.

CMS- Dave's right you are constantly taking parts in interactive stories and that's what RPG's are, interactive stories with a structured system to help move them along smoothly. It's no more nerdy than anything we do here. As far as time frame, they can be ongoing adventures that are as long as you want them to be or they can be one off vignettes that may just take a evening or a afternoon. The most important thing is that you have a good imagination, and that's key to the whole thing. You should give it a try.

You should pick it up. Even if you aren't planning on playing the game. It's a decent resource on people and things in the 'verse. Not quite as authoritative as the OVC but more detailed. Plus pretty pictures of the BDHs.

RRGs can be lots of fun, they can also be frustrating if you have the wrong group. I've been in one for 5-6 years now, 2 original players remain, the rest of the group has changed over the years, and ocassionally other players were just not fitting in. but overall the games can be fun. I've also played in games that last 4-5 hours. Things like "Paranoia" and "Call of Cthulhu" are well suited for that.
I tend to describe RPGs to those unfamiliar with them as "being in a play with no script." most involve a list of skills/abilities that you must roll dice to determine your success for each time you attempt some action. If the mood's not right, it can be tedious though.

Then I certainly can't justify spending $40 on a book you don't really want and porbably wouldn't read. But have you seen the book? Flipped through it? Read any of the material? It's good stuff.

First it's very pretty. Stills from the BDM are complemented nicely by a graphic design that is visually interesting yet not overwhelming.

Second it has short snippets of stories (some about our BDH; some about another crew of would be space pirates that are included with the game) scattered throughout the book. Of special note are the descriptions of the BDHs in Mal's voice. Deckplans for Serenity as well as a few other ships are provided which can help visualizing scenes for all you fanficcers out there.

Third is the section on stock characters which is a fun exercise in spot which person from Firefly this is modeled after.

Round it all off with "A Brief Guide to the 'Verse" which is as it's name implies has a little of the history of the 'verse as well as a listing of important organizations and a bit on all of the named worlds from the OVC.

All of that plus you get a fairly good introductory RPG and you support the 'verse by buying a liscensed product.

I think I'm watching the Top Gear Seryn saw on Sunday, they've just crashed the Caravan.

That was quite funny.

I have seen it. And while, it's fantastic, it is definitely a "Get my brother to buy it and then borrow it off of him long enough till he gets me my own copy" kind of book.

That's how I got into Firefly in the first place!

I'm also hoping it'll work with Wonderfalls.

Having a brother is great.

Glad you liked it

Not quite a Valkarie, more of a Warrior Princess, since the basis of the image was a photo of the Xena lady. Kind threw up some problems though, since your complextion is of the scandinavian type and Xena's is of the day glow fake tan orange ilk. Kinda difficult to match up the different skin tones.

Well, yeah, you would want to attend a function that does feature the Cappy. I think that a move to L. A. might could help a bit there.

Also, I now know from my S3 "do's & dont's" booklet that in order to receive an autograph from a real live "star", one needs to purchase the appropriate 8x10 photograph, which said celebrity then signs for "free". Which suggests a good gorram luck to having other articles signed, such as, y'know, casts or buttocks, etc.

Perhaps at D*C there will be charging for the signature, plain and simple. They're a little bit more blatant about these things in America. Or, so I'm told....

LMD: that's more or less how my favourite series was written. Great series if you get the time. Raymond E. Feist's The Rift War Saga: Magician:Apprentice, Magician:Master, Silverthorn, A Darkness at Sethanon.
the story was later continued in Prince of the Blood, and The King's Buccaneer (my favourite in the series). and another trilogy, the Serpent war saga.

Cozen: at the past 2 D*C's it's been $20 per sig per guest, which got expensive for me last year getting 3 sets of things signed by 4 BDHs.

its the structured system that i have problems with - i've no head for rules numbers or whatever.

plus, i can write something and its entiely independant of me. I couldn't sit face to face and say anything that i'd written on the tree etc - i get very bad stage fright.

But yes, RPG's marvellous Idea *nudges serenity and grins* you should all really think about doing that, it sound good fun!
