oh i don't know about the backing off drinkijng entirely.

My inner ms Jekyl will tell you that i'm not going to drink because that would be ridiculous, Ms Hyde on the other hand, is mighty interested in that shots competition.

What i'm not interested in is spending the entire weekend with a pint in hand. and one morning off from a hangover would be cool.

but Ms Hyde used to be a shots champion.
(before Ms Hyde started to get i'll from alchamahol) now she's more of an enthusiastic light weight. I will stop when i know the next drink will result in illness, so you'll win, but not easily. (my 'record' i suppose is about ten ice teas, with several daquiries, at least tow glasses of champagne, five or so shots of tequila (two of them slammers, thats fun) sambucas and some long drinks (jd and coke) inbetween each, as i was taking it slow.

I remember the entire night, i got a taxi home, and only fell out once when they opened the door with out telling me, got in, washed my face, put my pjs on, got to sleep about 5:40, then got up at 8:30 to get dressed and go to college. I had a bit of a headache in the afternoon.

Oh those heady days of studenty hangover free drinking.)

of course i can count the number of units i've had in the last two years with out taking my socks off, so anything could happen...

oh yes, this is all provisional on having a nice strong young man willing to let me lean on them on the way home, and to sing with me.

Yup, i'm a singer.

then i accept! I shall be the third in your awe inspiring trinity.

ok, but i have to warn you, i may just be the most clumsy person you or anyone else here knows. In the past three days alone i have managed to sustain 5 separate injuries - cuts, bruises, scrapes and burns, take your pick. Starting with a friction burn on my wrist, then dropping my keyboard edge first on my foot, a cut fron the sharp uncovered edge of a metal hook, followed swiftly by scrapes and grazes in the same spot, where i ignored it and went to fish marbles out from under a radiator, and finally, i managed to burn my hand on the grill guard of our oven.

Its come up in a great big blister, all red and stingy. It doesn't look good, and it hurts a bit. but the scar is going to be great.

all this, while i've been handling a very large, very sharp pair of aviator shears - designed to cut through metal like its paper, and haven't yet had an accident. (touch wood!)

I really don't get me sometimes.

But i've decided to hire out my services as a health and safety inspector - if i can go in and walk around your workplace with out maiming myself then you've passed the inspection.

or maybe i'm just some kind of genius - so misunderstood that even i'm misunderstanding me.

So you don't want me to take my swords to D*C then?

On the way back from training today I decided to buy some beer (I've earned it) and got a rental while I was there (local shop/video rental is closed Sundays so you get it an extra day for free). Looked at the latest releases and the ones that stood out were Aeon Flux, King Kong and Doom.

Aeon Flux is supposed to be Aeon Sux's (so I've heard) so I decided to leave it to when I can get it for free and I was going to go with King Kong, but then I saw Doom and I've played the game and I was curious so,

I really shoulda gone with Kong. Doom's not bad I suppose, for what it is, and I prefer the explanation for where the daemons come from, I never was a fan of "lets kill the denizens of hell" thing. It was okay, but it's "good to watch for free on TV" okay not "pay £3 for rental okay".

I wasn't really that taken with the game either, played all the originals, in fact as far as I know my old schools computers may still have it hidden away on their hard drives, but the problem with it is that it fulfilled exactly what ID wanted from it, it was an old school shooter. You wander around with a great big gun and shoot monsters that walk very slowly towards you. Like currently we're getting a lot of World War Two FPS games, well Doom and games of that era, the old skool, were like World War One, "That's right men, walk very very slowly in single file towards the enemy machine guns, they'll never expect it!"

Incidentally why hasn't anyone produced a World War One game? Well there was that Royal Flying Corps game years ago that I really wanted to play but it was hard core and you needed like a Pentium 75 with 50mb of RAM to run it! Whoa! Like man who has a machine with those sorts of righteous megahertz? It looked really good though, I liked the idea of flying a biplane over France, taking the helm (stick?) of a Sopwith Camel and turning that Baron bastard Red. Anyway they should make a trenches game, hours of game play wandering around in the mud and if you stand up from a crouch your head comes off. Then finally it’s the whistle with a plucky Captain shouting "Tally ho and over the top lads! We'll be sucking sausages in Berlin by tea time!" moments before his head comes off. Then you follow the AI troop’s slowly walking toward the German lines, bullets flying every which way while you wait for the whites of their eyes. Finally you either hide and get shot for cowardice, or you get shot. It'll fly off the shelves.

Okay maybe not, but you could do something, like a murder mystery like Ben Elton's The First Casualty, or Tank Corps or something.

Anyway Doom. Yeah Doom 3 was Old Skool that was great, in 1993 when we didn't have or know any better, but when you've got special forces outflanking you and using grenades to flush you out in FarCry an imp jumping out of the roofing tile and going "BOO!" doesn't really impress. I got bored of Doom about half way through and put it away and haven't played it since, sure it could be scary but it was scary by relying on boring clichés, rather than being imaginative, make it dark, make things suddenly jump out at you and have creepy random sound effects. Yay Ghost Train the game.

Incidentally they had the Serenity trailer on the DVD, which led partially to this rant, Doom did much better, but by comparison is utter STE. What’s wrong with people?

But anyway if anyone can tell me what the hell I'm going on about they can have a cookie...

Cool Shanghai Knights is on channel one!

you are stream of conciousness ranting about a movie, because it was in your head and you wanted to talk about it.

Like i want to talk about the fact that i've just heard Credence Clearwaters 'Magic carpet ride' and been playing it repeatedly while boogieing around doing chores. And isn't it great when you find a song that makes you happy and boogie... full?

and the other day when i was ranting about The New World, a film that would have been ok if the director hadn't decided to splice in a nature documentary and overlay the voiceovers from Dune.
I don't normally have problems with my attention span, but after what felt like hours of varius pretty shots of ships, then water, ships again, tree, ships, dragonfly, ships, colinfarrel, grass, ships, ships whisper ships... i realised we were only actually half way through the opening credits and picked the sewing up again. and a book.

So do i get a cookie?

I still haven't played doom 3, though I'm sure I'd like it. I'm still more a fan of the old school shooters than those of the "new school." I think I like the straight forwardness of 'em. Also, the physics and player movement in those games tends to be more to my liking.

I haven't seen the movie yet, either, though I'm sure at some point I will.

I'm currently playing through HL2 (yeah, it's taken me this long to play a game that's sequel to one of my favorites? priorities have changed...). I'm enjoying it.

-edit- forgot to mention, over on another forum we were discussing the overabundance of wwII shooters (which i greatly dislike). wwI games were brought up at one point.

Seryn: my brother used to have it set up on his cell phone that when I called him, instead of hearing the phone ring, I'd hear Magic Carpet Ride play. It was awesome. I'd always dance while waiting for him to answer the phone.

Recently he changed it to something else, some song I don't know and that isn't nearly as cool as MCR. I bug him to change it back endlessly but he's won't.

I'd call you, except, well, I can't afford the phone bill. But, if I got to hear MCR, it'd be worth it!

Mai: share the cookies!

Wish I'd thought to grab a muffin on my way out the door this morning. I want muffins!

BTW, I invented my own muffin recipe this weekend that is not only very tasty and versatile but is dairy free (so my galactosemic cousin can eat them). Which means I made up the batter and then added whatever I wanted to portions. To one part I added blueberries and a bit of lemon juice, to another I added bananas and walnuts and to the 3rd I added cocoa and chocolate chips.

And you can't tell they're dairy free because they turned out moist and tasty and very very good and I want one but foolish me left them at home.

Why am I rambling about muffins?

Oh yeah, cuz I'm hungry. Grrr.
