Me, too!!!

But, honestly, I've always wanted a pair of silk stockings.

Just one pair. To see what all the fuss is about.

And then, I'd ruin them before I got out the door and there's all that money down the drain.

But, at least, for 3.5 minutes, I'd have a pair.

but I thought the whole idea of silk stockings was that they wern't worn for any practical purpose, and were then slinked off pretty speedily.

Or am i just naughty minded?

if you are the only guy in the thread, then still don't worry because you are atleast not the only guy that i know who's worn them.

And i'm sure that at some point in his SCA career SR must have worn tights.

though he will agrue that they were actually hose.

just make sure that your toenails are nicely trimmed and your skin soft, don't wear rings to put them on, and do that gathering from top to bottom, slip them over your toes and pull up, letting the fabric go bit by bit - don't ever pull up from the top edge.

As an interesting addendum to my reply to Citizen - i had to explain once to a guy how to wera them. his hairy legs were causing him issues, and these tights had padded calves which made it all ten times more difficult - and no matter how much he struggled, i refused to do the 'hands on' kind of helping - i just stood back and encouraged him.

Ah, stage school.

Worry no more. You are not alone. I was an extra in a summer theater production of Taming of the Shrew. Tights were worn.

Oh, I do know how to put them on, and take them off, I just have this extraordinary knack at finding sharp things sticking out of random places to brush against or my cat decides to play "Attack Mommy's Legs" or I trip and skin my knee or who knows?

Today, I was just sitting there at my desk, sitting all pretty with my ankles cross and all of a sudden, I had a run all the way up to my knee. I'm just cursed.

But, the good news was, since I had such a large run, I got to just take them off and be all bare-legged the rest of the day.

Wish I'd shaved this morning, though.

Denier is a measure of thread weight. Presumably 40 denier would be a heavy thread weight for hose; consequently hose made with that thread would be more resistant to runs.

yes, Dave has it - 40 denier are almost opaque, and usually come in black (though in recent years theres been a trend for bright colours), so they slim your legs and they're very warm, and it takes a concerted effort to put holes in them.

So how do you categorize tights/nylons over there? Everything here is labelled by style colour and denier.

And what do you call nylons that arn't made of nylon? Like wool and silk tights/stockings?

Sorry, bit in depth for ladies underwear, but i'm intrigued.

I will decline to answer the question. I have to retain at least a small smidgin of mystery. Regardless I would not argue with you Seryn as I can think of far too many other things we could do. Unless of course you want me to argue.

Tights!

Hose!

Hose!

This isn't a argument. This is just contradiction.

No. Spiders spin two forms of silk for their webs, building silk which is not sticky and trapping silk which is. Your stockings are made of building silk. I was very careful to make certain of that when I got them.

Do not apologise, women's underwear is by it's very nature is intriguing. Intrigue some more.

The funny thing is that I recall that wasn't it the topic before on maybe the third or fourth floor? Oh god! were lost in the tower! We're all going to die! Somebody hold me I don't want to die alone!

Or maybe this is just they way that everything works here and there is no need to panic.

Usually stockings or hose with the material in question appended if it's deemed important. Ie, silk stockings.

See, SR's learning - he doesn't want to argue with me!

Thank you for the very thoughtful gift (if only they were indestructable in real life!)

I actually have to locate some white silk stockings if i go to D*C next year - seeing as i really like this (albeit mean) idea of doing a better version of the Elizabeth Swann dress than that woman with the awful panniers.

And some shoe's, though i think i'll end up going with some slippers or something, period shoes if they're even available must be bloody expensive. Sorry don't mind me just thinking aloud. And a wig, seeing as i have even less hair now than i did before. The excalators are going to be a nightmare and crushes an issue too, but I can't think of anything i'd like to do more - especially as i was busy going into costume-nerdgasms over the Marie Antoinette trailer yesterday.

This is going to get expensive.

I believe last time we were talking about the various merits of different knicker types.
