I actually have several, but I can't get onto photoshop right now. I've also noticed that a lot of the signature pics are showing up as question marks. Is anyone else having a problem, or is it just me?

I made a web site to introduce my friends to the 'Verse.

I was having 'red X of doom' syndrome yesterday with some of the sig pics, but it seems to have gotten better now. And I'm having to trouble at all with photobucket (I assume that's what you meant; though I'm having no trouble with photoshop, either)

I am having a problem seeing the (EDIT: kiss)emoticons that are built into the site.

If you are having photobucket issues, that might be part of the problem with the sig pics, because I know a lot of us use it to host them.

It usually has to be something pretty big to put me off so strongly.

Generally, I get along with most people, which makes my life a lot easier. I come accross people I don't particularly like, but who doesn't? And after many years of being a chronic attention seeking people pleaser I've learned not to worry if everyone doesn't like me either. People clash. It's a fact of life. It's no big deal.

But you guys like me, right?

LOL!!! Oh you wonderful and gifted and talented and creative DeskTopHippie you!! - you put my own personality into words so beautifully - I used to want everybody to like me and would be bewildered if they didn't... and now I just go ... meh...

Oh fair and lovely Magdalena, sweetest poster in the 'Verse, of course you are adored by all!

You know Magda, maybe we should set up an attention-seekers anonymous support group? We could meet up in different threads and tell each other how wonderful we are while trying to wean us sl-o-o-o-wly off our desperate need for compliments from other posters.

JAMESTHEDARK

Firefly female: River, hands down. While Kaylee would no doubt be a blast to pal around with, River's always gotten my nod. There's just something undefinable about her, somewhere between 'protective daddy' and 'I'll be in my bunk' that she inspires.

You're Dead to Me: I've only rarely had this happen, and never on first impression. There is a friend of my brother's, who is, quite frankly, mentally unstable. He is a leach, who lives with his parents, lives off of his parents, hasn't held down a job, ever, and has no intention of moving out of his parent's house. He is also, by turns, a drug addict and an over-zealous, witch burning Catholic. And he talks smack about people constantly, my brother included. After the first incident, I wrote him off entirely, avoiding him like he carried the plague (Which isn't entirely unlikely; the man seldom bathes). My brother, though, clung to the parasite for years, as if thinking he would spontaneously change back into some saner version which I had never witnessed. While my brother put up with that man's shit, I just shook my head.
So, it takes two things to warrent the "You're Dead to Me" reaction, being betrayal of a significant nature, and an espousal of zealotic religious belief. The betrayal, being significant, proves you can't be trusted, therefore you are dead to me. As for the religion, thats something I'd rather not discuss.

But I digress. I do go on rants, don't I?

EDIT: Early? Are you kidding? It's 9:30 where I'm sitting. This thing must be aligned to a funky weird time zone...

... oh ... yeah - ponderin'... well I am a Kaylee girl - I understand her take on things more than you might think... the sweetness to her nature is real - you know? I like to give people a chance and see the best in situations... I think i've mentioned that when I saw the first episode for the first time I was totally hooked when I saw Kaylee kiss Mal's cheek and say "I love my Captain..." and I somehow knew it wasn't romantic... but here was a young woman who wasn't afraid to show her love for a man who had a pretty shut off air to him until that point... that and the look he exchanges with Jayne... Mind you - River is the most beautiful one... Zoe the bravest... Inara the most cenred and sexual...

To answer the Firefly women ponderation, well, I think it might be a mite obvious who my favorite is. The crazy quips and such from the series and the ass-kickery from the BDM just make her #1 in my mind. Zoe would come as a close second, the warrior woman just appeals to me a lot (not to mention Gina being a very attractive woman) and I think I am a bit like Wash in attitude, at least when I am not in a down mood.

Best Firefly female... that's really hard to decide. They're all so completely different from each other, each bringing their own special qualities to the show.

I can't go with who I love the most, because I love them all! I guess it would have to be the one I couldn't imagine the show continuing without. In which case it would have to be River.

James- OK I almost fell over laughing on the plague comment and bathing regularly...you are amazingly funny:)

CMH- Um at the risk of point out how shallow my gender can be...I seriously doubt most women's gazes have made it as far as your face sweety...oh trust me you have plenty of weapons, just ease back on the bitter minorly misogynistic side at the first and you should do very well indeed. Not saying be someone else, just suggesting you don't need to reveal your entire personality at one shot. Let her get to know the funny, sweet side of you first HUGS However if you're into crazy girls, I say go with the misogyny it'll draw them in faster:)Or you could just say f*ck it and go for pretending to be a total assh*le which attracts an incredible number of women ( though I feel they may have suffered some form of brain damage so that would tie in nicely to your crazy thing) I just think you're a pretty great guy somewhere in there and I really think you shouldn't be so sad and alone BIG HUGS

NV- OK I really may have to help GND drug you if you won't co-operate and go quietly!! HUGS Hope it goes well

Magda- BIG GIANT HUGS for my big sis!!

PR- Should we be somehow fortifying Nico with vitamins and stamina building regimes??? You're gonna kill that boy. He'll die amazingly happy, but I hope you're gentle with him HUGS darling PR You're just gonna have to suffer for the fact that you're so hot and sexy!

Well I have 5 minutes before I have to leave for round 3 of the lame training for the test I am already certified to give, so I will be back about 4 hours from now:)

I am so with you on this one and you put it so eloquently. But I can't imagine the show without any of them.

As an aside, I wasn't really expecting to start a ponderance, I was just trying to get a feel for what CMH was looking for in a woman. Jeepers, my unintentional ones get a lot more "airtime" than the ones I put out there on purpose. What does that say about me? (I hope that's not another one!) Oh, yeah, I forgot, I'm an attention male-whore.

OMG, to start the day with that? FANTASTIC. Good thing the co-workers haven't started filtering in yet. They'd think I was a crazy person.

Why is it that I read through all the threads and then when I go to reply, I can't remember anything?

What I do remember is someone asked about the crazy time zone. It's set on Hawaii time, so three hours behind me in CA.

Favorite Firefly female? I think River, but I identify most with Zoe. I would like to be more like Kaylee, but I'm just not that sweet and nice. I've got quite an edge to me. Oh, and I identify with Inara's wardrobe the most(from the show..the movie, not so much). LOVE it. But would like to add Zoe's leather (show and movie).

I have two more quotes, both fit within the framework of this thread:

"A woman is often measured by the things she can not control. She is measured by the way her body curves or doesn't curve, by where she is flat or straight or round. By all the outside things that don't ever add up to who she is on the inside. And so, if a woman is to be measured, let her be measured by the things she can control, by who she is and who she is trying to become. By her passions, her dreams, her goals. Because as every woman knows, measurements are only statistics, and statistics lie."

and

"It's a great loss when young men no longer look at you, but it's a far greater gain because you no longer see yourself through their eyes." - Chrissy Hynde (I think...it was some significant female rocker)

Morning, all.
It started out as a busy day...this is not a good sign!

CMH, yeah, it was meant for the whole post there...still made me smile reading it again this morning!

Magda, it just proves that the man is a stronger person than most of us.
You need not seek out attention! Just look towards me!

Favorite quotes...hmm...I have a few I like, but none are coming to mind right now.

Firefly female? Kaylee. I know, I should be going for Zoe, but there's something about Kaylee...

DTH, I like you.

Oh, "Dead to me" response...prejudice, stupidity, ignorance, overtly religious (Of ANY sort), heavy drug use...huh. I have a lot of those, eh?

I think I'm caught up now. Good morning to those I missed, and I hope to be around now and then today.

Dang it, I lost my post.

Tristan reminded me about "dead to me" response. Racism and cruelty. Yep, that'll do it.

CMH: Back when we were talking about Xenophon, you asked about other books on training horses for combat. I never answered, mostly because that just isn't an area that I am interested in. But there are the guys we call the "Old Dead Gods" who had serious influence of today's systems of riding. Vladimir Littauer and Federico Caprilli are two of the fathers of the modern forward seat. Gordon Wright was ex-calvary and had a huge influence on America's systems of riding, most noteably through George Morris, the current Chef D'Equipe of the US Equestrian Team (and someone I'm hoping to be able to take a clinic with next winter).

Maybe the boy feels too much pressure from the support group here to perform. Maybe we should ease up on him a little.

Sorry, NVG, about the age thing. I thought I remembered a reference you made about being so much older, or the age difference, or somesuch, back when I first started posting here. Maybe you did and I just overadjusted my age meter. In any case I don't wanna make you any older than you already are. That'll happen on its own. Unless of course you shorten your life by fretting too much over womenfolk.

Real easy version, no talking required: next time she puts her head on your shoulder, unless you're driving, take your finger and your thumb and gently (truly gentle, MsG and PR...) take her chin and tilt it up to you so you can look her in the eyes. One of two things will happen. Either her eyes will answer your question the way you want it answered, without you having to ask. Do not choke. This is THE moment.

Or she'll look at you with a blank or curious expression, at which point you can say that you just wanted to look at her and tell her that you're glad she's so comfortable being around you that she can do that. (So, yeah, there might be talking.) She won't punch you. She won't hate you. She might blush and go all "ain't that sweet" on you. How are any of those a bad thing?

And I'm glad about the drugs are bad comment. MsG and Mavoureen might still tie you up, though. Tristan might be able to get you into some armor but a) I don't think it would help against those two (no offense Tristan) and b) he's apt to be by their side when they attack.

Ooops! Sorry.

Hi LA! I totally ignored you when I posted. It's always good to see your posts.

*ashamed*

JQ- I'm mildly impressed that you still have a romantic vein.

CHRISMOORHEAD

Rugbug - Outstanding, I'm going to look those names up immediately. Currently in my "To Read" cache, I still have to finish a 2 1/2 inch thick book by Col. Hackworth (After I finished the Johnny Cash Autobiography I'm currently reading) but I'm thinking that if any of these guys you mentioned wrote books, they'll be next in line. Thanks again for your help.

MSG - I usually go with the "fuck it" response. I actually threatened to open a girl's throat last week when she made fun of my hat. She didn't seem too turned on by that, can't imagine why. Anyways, being alone isn't all that bad. I enjoy the solitude. This past weekend, it rained like crazy here where I live, cold and windy. Kept everyone inside. I went out for a nice 4 hour excursion on the local bikepath. I relish those moments, no people walking their dogs, no bicyclists, just me, like I'm the last person on Earth. I mean, you're married, right? Living with another person for so long, you must know what it's like to want to just be alone sometimes.

Itsawash - Eh, you're coming in kind of late to the conversation. I'm not looking to argue about this, but just about everything about me is diametrically opposed to the female gender. There'll always be sweethearts who think that there's hope for everyone, but really, would you want to motivate Ted Kosinski to keep playing the field? Some people just need to be left alone.

Desktophippie - Nah, I wasn't much for the penis lengthening techniques, either. Obviously some of the advice given is anachronistic, but there are modern translations. For example, where it suggests buying a potential spouse toys and candy to get her to like you. For the time and place it was written, finding potential partners while they were still 12 years old was pretty normal. But in essence, don't older women like "toys" themselves, all be it of a different nature?

"Men don't stop playing with toys, their toys just get more expensive"

Or something like that... anyways, that's true for both genders, I'd imagine.

On the subject of "You're dead to me" - No. I've been the victim of that far too many times to let it control my opinions about other people. I've found that talking to people in length about things, sometimes even over the course of a month, you can reveal their true meaning. Many people are just not very articulate; they say things that just come out wrong. I know at least one person who has a very severe problem with that.

I met a guy one time who thought that homosexuality was just plain wrong, wasn't up for discussion on the issue. Today, he wont hang out with me because I'm too conservative. And it wasn't me that got him all hippy-tree-hugging liberal, either. It was his girlfriend. But that's just an example of how meeting someone at the wrong time in their life can give you an un-fair impression of them.

Intolerance is the vestige of cowards without the capacity to accept that people can change. I was pleased to read where Desktophippie said "People clash. It's a fact of life. It's no big deal.". That is part of the foundation for human interaction. It's why I always talk about war and conflict. And people lacking that perspective, in my opinion, are responsible for more violence and hate than I will ever be capable of.

Oh sure blame it on the power of suggestion. You know people have different, uh, threshholds of, er, sensitivity to, um, suggestion...what was I talking about again.
*feels sudden thralldom overtake his entire being*
Don't know what got into me, I really didn't mean to be disobdient. Perhaps a spanking is in order? Oh, yes, Nico, I forgot. Well perhaps Mavoureen could take your place...
*blinks*
What the hell just happened there? Anyone?

Mav-Thank you, I think. Perhaps it's the juxtapositioning of overlapping thoughts in the thread, but I do believe you've succeeded making me something not even MsG or PR have been able to do (DTH came really close once at the Pub though...think she remembers?)

NVGHOSTRIDER

Still here and mildly lurking. Waiting for her to call back. She had to deposit some borrowed money into my account. Just me playing Mighty Mouse again gettin' myself into potential trouble. But I saved the day when she was gone this weekend.

The next two or so weeks are gonna suck major ass. BabySis is out of town so we'll have to hold our own with BabyV 'til she gets back. I've got a bunch of decoy work for an upcoming show. Need to give Sissy's court advocate some cash in the next two weeks. Its been freekin' cold. And Lonliness has already set in over the above mentioned GND.

On the brighter side I showed one of my co-workers (female) pics of Drew Barrymore on Flixter. I think we were both drooloing a bit. Unfortunately mine was noticed. Oh well. It was worth it.

Jonny- that is one very excellent suggestion.

NV- I guess it comes down to, what's worse, knowing or not knowing and as a subset, if not knowing drives her away, will you ever be able to forgive yourself??? I hope this works out for you hon, 'cause I can think of no other who deserves a great girl more. You do what feels right and if you think you're going to choke, it might help to know she's likely as nervous and filled with " does he really like me the way I want" concerns as you.

CMH- yeah depending on how that was deliverd I might think you were a humorless psycho...however, depending on tone of voice and how well I knew you, I also might laugh. MisterG and I have buikt in lots of alone time. He plays WoW and I do my own thing. I also have groups of friends I do stuff with that doesn't usually include him and he has friends he does stuff with and I'm not there. I really like the " let there be spaces in your togetherness" However inherently social I am, I do have those times when I wander away from people.

Firefly female I most like. Well I think Kaylee is obviously the strongest and most powerful, but I find Inara the most interesting.

PR- really I know you're gentle too ( I'm not, but that's hardly the point) we just think ...well ok I'll stop now:)

Let's just say, mei mei (and the last time I called one of you mei mei I got yelled at, but I'm a slow learner) if you ever have made me blush, I'd never admit to it (there might be Nico's and Missuses lurking about...!) You do have some of the damnedest (forsaken?) posts, girl.

Ahhhh..MSG - you're back and I've been dying to ask you a question all day...

Do you have a really good Lemon Chicken recipe? I tried to make one last night and it was horrible. I ended up throwing out the sauce and we just ate the chicken breasts.

I'm also on the lookout for a good Honey-Mustard sauce...

Everyone one I've tried from the Internet (all of 2, mind you) have been yucky.
Can you help a girl out?

Also, JQ - Somehow I don't think Mrs Quest and/or Mr Mavourneen would appreciate the spankies. I do understand your zeal for punishment, but...

WHIMSICALNBRAINPAN

Rugbug: Nice quotes!

I don't think someone can do something to make me think you are dead to me right away unless they are blatantly cruel, unbelievably stupid, or intolerably ignorant.

The people I have known for a while in my life that have made me say you are dead to me were either cruel to me or more likely someone I love or they lied. I simply can not tolerate lying.

Favorite Firefly females:
1. River
A very close 2. Zoe
3. Kaylee
4. Inara
