I agree. A truly visionary filmmaker. Thanks for the laughs and the memories! Condolences to his family and friends.

A great man - great film maker and i always think of this song from his wonderful movie...M.A.S.H.
Rest in Peace Mr. Altman. Thanks for your fine works.

Through early morning fog I see
visions of the things to be
the pains that are withheld for me
I realize and I can see...
[REFRAIN]:
that suicide is painless
It brings on many changes
and I can take or leave it if I please.
I try to find a way to make
all our little joys relate
without that ever-present hate
but now I know that it's too late, and...

The game of life is hard to play
I'm gonna lose it anyway
The losing card I'll someday lay
so this is all I have to say.

The only way to win is cheat
And lay it down before I'm beat
and to another give my seat
for that's the only painless feat.

The sword of time will pierce our skins
It doesn't hurt when it begins
But as it works its way on in
The pain grows stronger...watch it grin, but...

A brave man once requested me
to answer questions that are key
is it to be or not to be
and I replied 'oh why ask me?'

'Cause suicide is painless
it brings on many changes
and I can take or leave it if I please.
...and you can do the same thing if you please.

Altman's IMDB page is here:

http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000265/

He recently did Prarie Home Companion, btw which did look vaguely interesting to me ...

He also directed Robin Williams in Popeye ....
and countless other works ...

Think I'll pop in MASH (The Movie) into my DVD player, and turn on the commentary track, tonight.

Oh wow.. this is such a loss for all of us! My prayers for his family. Thank you Mr. Altman for all you gave us.

Thank you Dayve for reminding me of that song's lyrics.

Oh my, the world is gettin' lonely.

ECGORDON

There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

I'm a big Altman fan, and slowly but surely I have been collecting his films on dvd. Some aren't available unfortunately, but maybe in time. He will be sorely missed. A true independent spirit, who was never as well-known and popular as he deserved.
