You think you know--what's to come, what you are. You haven't even begun.

I've grown curious about what kind of tattoos Browncoats might have. I don't have any myself because I'm literally just not built for it but I think they can be pretty shiny, and thought I'd start a thread for any 'coats who wanted to show off. Got Firefly tats? Shiny! Other tats? Also shiny!
This is of course a family-friendly site. If anyone has unmentionable tattoos, please keep them unmentioned. Thanks.

A firefly tat is definitly on my list of tats to get one day. As whimpy as it sounds I promised my parents no more until I move out of the house. I have 2, one is a broken heart on my left upper arm that says "beat you heart out" the other is a line drawing of a pixie girl sitting and facing away (she isn't nearly finished yet). As for the planning of future tats,

~Butterfly -for my cousin who died a few years ago-

~a periwinkle-the sea snail type, I have wonderful memories of me and my grandpa looking for periwinkles in the tidepools

This picture, but just the faery with the pearls (BTW if this it innappropriate let me know). I'm a Libra and I always hated the sign with the scales, i thought he would be a way around that.

I also want tats of wings on my ankles and that ties into the roller derby thing.

Wow! That is an amazing picture, Sabri3l! Kinda reminds me of the creatures from the movie The Dark Crystal.

I saddly don't have a tattoo yet, but when I get one I will definitely post a pic up here. I really want my 1st one to be the Chinese symbol for love on my lower stomach, or maybe on my hip. Then after that, of course, the Chinese symbols for Serenity on my lower back. Here's hoping I'm brave enough. Now come on people, let's post some tat pics up here!!

True, true. I hear if u get it more of an area like your hip or lower back (funny enough right in the spots I want to get 'em) hurts a little more since there isn't much cushion. I guess it wouldn't be so bad. I got quite a few piercings so it's not like I'm really squeemish when it comes to needles or some pain.

I got one right below my neckline on my back (Once I get home I'll see if I have a pic of it) and it didn't hurt that bad. The artist said I didn't even bleed all that much. Different people have different pain thresholds. I know a guy that got a tattoo in the same place as me and he cried like a little girl. Different strokes for different folks.

A celtic knot in the shape on an inverted triangle on my lower back. I got it years ago and I love it to bits.

I'm planning a second one. I have the "what" ('Serenity' written in Ogham, an ancient Irish system of writing) but I haven't quite decided on the where.

That's cool you mention Ogham, the next tattoo I'm getting is going to be my name in Ogham. Then I'm going to get a Phoenix on my back (wings encasing my first tattoo) doen in UV ink, so it'll be invisible unless i'm under a blacklight.

NICODEMUS

Over the years I've come up with vast and intricate layout of tattoos that I'd like to get. At one point the idea was to get at least one on each major limb / body section to help with identifying me in case of an accident, but that's been scrapped for numerous reasons. I currently don't have any, but here are some of the ones I've thought of getting at one point or another.

Inner left ankle: the Hop Tu Naa symbol (pentacle with celtic knotwork around it and through it).

Inner right ankle: a Transmet smilie of some description.

Right sole: shattered/splattered Goa'uld symbiote.

Left sole: shattered Alliance logo

Right upper arm: ruined tower with 3 ravens perched on it, two of them (Heckle & Jekyl) being normal ravens with the third one being Quoth, the Discworld raven.

That's the main ones. There were others, but I won't mention them (not today anyway). As you can see, I've spent a bit too much time thinking about this.

(Thx to Desktop Hippie for the banner)

PHOENIXROSE

You think you know--what's to come, what you are. You haven't even begun.

I've thought a bit too much about it, too. Even though I knew as soon as I tried to get pierced that my body has rather severe reactions and I wasn't going to risk something permanent like a tattoo, I still thought about what I would get.
First I thought I would get a cresent moon with a rose lying on it by my ankle. I figured the ankle doesn't wrinkle up, so it wouldn't look weird when I got older.
The I got into totems and had various ideas as to a totem pole. One was to actually have the proper totem over each or my chakras. That would not work for various and obvious reasons. So then I thought just one of my totems on my upper arm (still totally hypothetical, of course) but didn't much like that idea.
Then I really wanted wings. Fiery wings. A full backpiece.
So then I came into the idea of the totem pole down my back, with a phoenix at the top, fiery wings spread over my shoulderblades, and a long line of animals (Ermine, sea turtle, white tiger, scarab beatle, fox, blue whale, dolphin, green parrot, and maybe a few others if I could fit them. Yes I have a lot of totems.) going down my spine.
So that's what's in my head right now. But it's not going to happen. I'm more than halfway sure my body would scar or otherwise go crazy, so I won't risk it. Plus I have way too many things to spend my money on without dropping a grand or two on something like that.

Well, some of you may have seen this one before, but I haven't been around much lately, and a lot of names here I don't recognize, so here it is again:
[]

Hope this works, I can't remember how to post images on this board! Obviously that's the Serenity logo in the center, surrounded by an orobouros, and the flaming wings are a phoenix symbology. I would like to have the wings extended more (more "feathery"), and I'm thinking about having the whole thing incorporated into a design going down the spine, with earth and water symbology (since I've got fire and "air" - wings)

Next one is the 57th Overlanders Independents triangle on one ankle...I'm thinking maybe that will be something to do at Flan (or whatever replaces it) as a symbol that we are Just Too Pretty To Die!

I got this yesterday. It is a crappy picture from a crappy webcam:

It's Euler's Identity: e^(j*pi) + 1 = 0 , which I just think is neat. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Euler%27s_Identity

I want others. I want to get the patch for the 76th Independent Battalion on one of my upper arms, and I want some sort of band to go all the way around one of my limbs that incorporates both of my sons' names. I also have a 10g bar through my tongue that I have had for 6 years now, and I had a lip ring, but it healed up too quickly after taking it out one summer.

1. Serenity (the ship) with the word Browncoat under it
2. The word "Slayer" with a wooden stake in the background
3. The Angel Investigations logo (Is that a lobster? lol)
4. Gally from "Battle Angel" (An AMAZING anime movie soon to be a live action piece of crap by James Cameron)
5. Kodamas from "Princess Mononoke" (Another anime thing - tree spirits)
6. A cartoony Nosferatu
7. A fairy with butterfly wings (my 1st)
8. A Chinese dragon (Me and everyone else!)
9. The AURON from "The Neverending Story" (The book version, the one that says "Do What You Wish")
10. A dagger
11. A kinda evil looking seahorse
12. "Ka" with Arthur Eld's symbol (It means fate) from Stephen King's Dark Tower series
13. The X-men "X"
14. The Trojan SHARP logo (Skinheads Against Racial Prejudice) with the words "Though it starts with your fist, It ends with your mind"

The equation has various uses as an identity, but its most important characteristic is its mathematical beauty. Not just beauty, but sexiness. Basically, to us mathematicians, looking at it is all the foreplay we need.

Here's a quote from the Wiki article:
Quote:

Three basic arithmetic functions are present exactly once: addition, multiplication, and exponentiation. As well, the identity links five fundamental mathematical constants:

* The number 0.
* The number 1.
* The number π, which is ubiquitous in trigonometry, Euclidean geometry, and mathematical analysis.
* The number e, the base of natural logarithms, which occurs widely in mathematical analysis.
* The number i, imaginary unit of the complex numbers, which contain the roots of all nonconstant polynomials and lead to deeper insight into many operators, such as integration.

See what I mean? How is that not sexy!? Who needs Angelina Jolie when one has Euler.

Khyron nailed it, it is neat because of the things that make it up. As for usefulness, it really doesn't have any, unless it is to remind you of Euler's Formula by showing what it should work out to.

Looking at it from a magickal standpoint, it has 3 irrational numbers, 5 constants, and 7 total symbols, all of which are powerful numbers.

To be fair, it does have uses as an identity; I used it a couple of times already when working with complex variables, and if I remember correctly I used it once to significantly simplify a Fourier transform.

The image you re-posted, JoQu, is a graphic I painstakingly created by hand a couple years ago using screen shots of Jayne's shirt seen in "Objects In Space" and one other that I can't recall at the mo. (He also wears it in the movie.) Now that I actually have Jayne's shirt, there are a few things missing from my graphic, and a few things that are slightly different due to misinterpretation.

So, NV, no, it's not the exact image that's on Jayne's shirt. I could update my graphic so it's more exact, or I could try to get my scanner working and toss the shirt on it.

15. Full back - Angel wings with bloody dripping tips

***Never judge a book by its movie***

That is TOO fricken' awsome!! =P I too am an anime nut... it's my crack =D HEY SOME PEOPLE JUGGLE GEESE!!! Need to check out this Battle Angel thing you speak of =) About the only tat that you have that I haven't heard of and/or seen/read was the thing about the Skinheads Against Racial Prejudice deal... how does that work? Sorry if I come off as ignorent and/or an arsehole but I thought skinheads were the crazy neo-nazi racist types...

As to personal tats... I'm thinking on getting the chinese symbol for Serenity on my left bicep, and then the chinese symbol for solitary warrior on my right
