Is there anybody on the forum from New Zealand (or who knows the country)?

I was wondering what the poisonous spider/insect/snake situation was like there? I'd never thought of visiting because I figured it was the same as Australia (i.e. full of all things poisonous!) - but since watching all the documentaries on the special edition of Fellowship of the Ring (and that was a week's work! ) I'm beginning to realise it's nothing like Australia and it also sounds like a place I would love to visit.

(not that I have anything against Australia other than the whole 'full of all things poisonous' issue...)

thanks heaps!

Barney

I know nothing of it's harmful fauna, I just know I am scratching together all the money I have in an attempt to get there (I was watching the LotR extras too ;)

Cool - thanks!

Haven't found anything icky yet - although I now know that New Zealand is home to the world's only flightless parrot!

My brother had a flightless parrot, in Florida. He got it at a pet store.

Yeah, I'm in the process of moving there.

Almost nothing poisonous there--a few spiders, not fatally poisonous.

There are really no predators there worth speaking of, which is why flightless birds like the Kiwi and Pakahe evolved there.

Go visit, by the way, if you are a LOTR fan; it's amazing. Save your frequent flyer miles and go see LOTR sites; you'll be blown away.
