Hey All

I was chatting with misskitten a while back and saw that she was starting to move away from FIREFLY and more towards the GILMORE GIRLS camp. And it got me wondering.

As much as I love FIREFLY, I'm not one of those fans that watches the whole series and the movie every month, or week. I havn't seen the movie since it came out on DVD a year ago, and I havn't seen the series since before the movie came out in Sept 05. And I think it's good that I don't watch it on a lopp so that I do discover new things and can still enjoy it when I do watch it. But I've gotten to the point where I actually want to invest my fandom into something that doesn't run the risk of cancellation each week.

So I was just wondering what other shows (sci-fi or non) are you folks getting into, and not just watching it every week, but invest the same level of obsessiveness into it that you have with FIREFLY.

With me, it's something actually a bit more down to earth. I like LOST and BATTLESTAR GALACTICA. I'm a bigger fan of HEROES and DOCTOR WHO since they don't take themselves too seriously as the former two shows and can actually TELL A JOKE and be somewhat light, which Damon Lindeloft and Ron D. Moore seem to break out in hives if that happens on their shows.

But the one show that I've started to become really obsessed with is THE OFFICE. I think it's amazing that something that sounded so blasphemous has beaten the odds and has become it's own thing and is so consistently funny and emotional and incredibly honest and relatable. I can relate to what goes on in this show more than anything else on tv. I like that it has shattered all the normal sit-com standards and make it completely distinct. I like that it takes place in Scranton, Pennsylvania. I like how the characters on the show look like real actual people that one encounters in daily life instead of all beautiful people. And that each of these background people have their own distinct personality which leads to this very distinct and yet recognizable world.

It's just a really, really great show.

The only thing that comes close to Firefly is Charlie's Angels for me! Child of the 70's!
But I recently bought The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr. on DVD and Zoe's mare's leg is on the 4th disc (some of the guys from this show worked on Firefly) belonging to a bounty hunter (played by Sheena Easton). The goodnight kiss even shows up! It's a great show.

To be really honest, I don't watch much hour-long TV at all. I enjoy Battlestar Galactica, but I just can't make myself invest the time. Firefly is really the only one I can sit through without feeling like I'm wasting time. I tend to prefer half-hour TV, right now being The Office, My Name is Earl, and even How I Met Your Mother.

But mostly I watch cartoons. South Park, King of the Hill, Metalocalypse (but I really can't stand the rest of Adult Swim's lineup).

I am big fan of "The Office," "Veronica Mars" (haven't seen this season), and "BSG" (also haven't seen this season), and I'll even admit to really liking "Grey's Anatomy," but less and less as it goes on. I am not as obsessed with any of them as I was/am with "Firefly."

I would like to find something that I absolutely have to see regardless of what else is going on. So far that has only happened twice in my adult life, and neither show is on anymore.

I'm into Sci-Fi's Friday night line-up of Stargate SG-1, Doctor Who and the Re-imagined Battlestar Galactica. Other than that I like Scrubs, but can't seem to time other things in my life around it, so I usually miss it. However, the TVlinks website someone mentioned a few weeks ago has all the shows I missed, even if it is down at the moment.

Talk to me Kain, I love that Brisco County JR dvd set. A pretty penny ouch. I was never into Wild Wild West but this I liked. Jack of All Trades is ok not bad. Yeh Sheena Easton with Zoe's gun. If your into westerns check out the movies Will Penny and Mountain Men. Those are my favorites. I can't wait till Alias Smith and Jones, and Cimmarron Strip come to DVD. At least I hope.

Oy vey!

Well, I *am* one of those fans who watches Firefly and Serenity as much as humanly possible. And to each his own, of course. But when I saw the title of this thread, hope sank in me like the sun does in the evening. :(

Doctor Who (of course!) is a regular watch of mine. David Tennant is so damn good! Torchwood's impressed me, too. I like the fact that each week, the episodes swing from personal/emotional one week, to action the next, then noir, then horror, then comedy. Keeps things fresh.

But it has to be said that I watch more Firefly then could generally be considered healthy...

All TV changed for me after Firefly, everything that has come after it is just blah, i tried to give Heroes a chance but i lost interest. I will give Drive a chance and i probably will stick with that for a while. But nothing like firefly. The only thing i watch regularly is Hockey in the winter and baseball in the spring and summer that is it as far as regular viewing habbits well except for southpark and adult swim stuff.

I'm one of those fans who tends to get obsessed with every fandom I pass through. It's one of the reasons I wanna be a writer; I want to make my own fandom.

So, yeah. I still revisit Star Wars and Star Trek (like old friends that I've known all my life ). Heck, I still revisit Andromeda from time-to-time.

My big ongoing fandoms are Transformers (more for concept than for any payoff we've yet had. Official TF fiction has a tradition of sucking out loud) and anime in general (InuYasha, Gundam Seed, and Stand-Alone Complex in particular).

Right now, I'm eagerly awaiting the return of Heroes, Dr. Who, Prison Break and the just-announced debut of Stargate Atlantis season 2 on Canadian TV (IT'S ABOUT FREAKIN' TIME!!!).

Right now there are no shows out there that can take the place of Firefly. Lost is probably the closest, but I rarely go to online forums about it nor do I own the DVD's. I like Heroes as well, but again not enough to become obsessed about it as I am with Firefly. Maybe one day in the future there will be a great show that will take it's place, but I don't see it happening for a while.

Entirely pointy.

Heroes is okay. BSG is okay, although the individual eps can be kind of hit or miss IMO.
Veronica Mars is the best show on TV. It has great characters, sharp language, and amazing stories.
Much like Firefly, most everyone that watches it loves it. But, no one watches it.

Boom goes the dynamite.

There are so many "good" tv shows that I'm sure I will never get to them all. Everyone has television series that are their favorites. For me right now.

Lost
Smallville
and I will be seeing Six Feet Under with the Mrs. soon.

Although I like the first two and enjoy them quite a bit I could shoot a lot of holes in each. Especialy Smallville. With a couple thousand folks walking around with "Special" powers the town seems to take itself as just the next stop down the road. I like it though and as a fan forgive it's weaknesses. It is fun to watch.

I never get tired of FF. The stories and f/x are strong and although I'm sure it's posibile I can't really find anywhere to shoot holes in this GREAT SERIES.

Heroes, BSG and Doctor Who. There seems to be a trend, here.

It’s unusual for me to be so involved in that many primetime shows, but they are all neatly grouped together on Friday night. Yay me.

Never got into Lost. It just seemed so pointless to me.

One show I am eagerly awaiting is the new season of Rome which is coming out on HBO on 14 January!! I think it’s going to detail the continuing adventures of Lucius Vorenus and Titus Pullo set against the backstory of Mark Antony and Cleopatra, the Second Triumvirate and the battle of Actium and the inauguration of Augustus Caesar and the impending of the Empire. I’m giddy!

Firefly/Serenity is the only fandom I've gotten involved with and I'm having a blast. I watch it in spurts and plan to see the BDM this evening.

I wanted to see it Saturday night on my brother's new 50 inch plasma HDTV but it isn't hooked up yet.

I really enjoy the Office a lot. Heroes and BSG are OK and so is Scrubs and How I Met Your Mother. Alison Hannigan and especially Neil Patrick Harris are hilarious.

Rescue Me was better the first two seasons. The character of Tommy was sort of like an even more damaged Mal, but in the last season didn't hit the mark. Tommy hasnt' learned one thing and if anything his "family" is even more disfunctional than ever.

It could have been an NYFD version of Firefly but it seems to be falling apart. I'll give it a bit of a chance when it returns next spring.

I've not really been able to watch anything with the same enthusiasm since I found Firefly. Nothing is as good as Firefly. Hands down the best show that ever was.

I don't feel like my involvement with the fandom is a waste or that I should turn my attention to a show that stands a chance. I love this fandom, and whether or not there's ever anymore Firefly/Serenity, I'll be here, be involved and be happy.

Doesn't mean I don't watch tv and don't enjoy some shows.

Current shows...
I love Heroes... riveted every time I watch it.
I like BSG immensely. A little grim, but always fascinating.
I like Jericho. Didn't watch it when it first started, but am catching up online.
I love SG-1 and Atlantis... I loved them before Firefly and wouldn't have found FF without them.

Old shows....
I've not seen Brisco County Jr. will have to make time for it. LOL
Alias Smith and Jones was fun.. I'd like to own it on DVD.
I still revisit the various Star Treks, exactly like old friends.
The last 3 Star Wars movies ruined the series for me... can't make myself watch any of them currently... but I used to love the old ones and likely will again.
I still like Farscape, although it's not Firefly!!

Shows to come...
Drive!!! Can't wait!!

I'm not really watching much live to air TV because the Free to air channels here are stuffing us around so much with repeats and changes in timeslots - but I have been re-watching SG1 (it is making a lot more sense this time around) from the beginning as I borrowed the series from a friend (& Michale Shanks and Christopher Judge are the first confirmed guests at Dragon*Con which I am attending this year!!) I am loving 'Supernatural' too!!

I have also been watching random favourite episodes of 'Buffy' & 'Angel' and the entire series of 'Black Books', as well as hopeing to get my hands on 'Veronica Mars' and 'Smallville' though I am going to be busy enough with SG1 & Supernatural for the time being...

There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

Of shows currently in production, the one that I'm most obsessed with is Veronica Mars, followed by Lost and Heroes, and I'm wavering a bit on BSG. Sometimes its great, sometimes it crashes and burns.

I also like Studio 60, but it seems that Sorkin hasn't made up his mind what he wants to concentrate on, so it is also hit and miss.

Although it has been several months since I have watched Firefly, it is still my major obsession, definitely the best television I have ever seen.

REGINAROADIE

Hey

Not to hi-jack my own thread, but tonight, on a new episode of THE OFFICE, there was a moment on that show that literally made me stop in my track and just pause to watch the complete awesomeness of this one scene that proves that the show doesn't just stand on the shoulders of giants. It's a giant itself.

It's this amazing scene that takes place after Pam finds out from Karen that Jim is OK with her renting a place that is two blocks from Jim's house, thus in effect moving in after about a month of dating. Cut to later, Pam is by herself in a hallway, crying her little heart out over this. And when you see Pam cry, it breaks your heart even more than when Kaylee gets all emotional over Simon. In comes Dwight who sees this. She coils up, he goes into defensive mode and is ready to kick ass over what he perceives to be a violation. He actually says "Who did this to you?!" She just dismisses this and goes back to crying. Dwight then comes over and takes off his suit jacket. You think he's going to drape it over her, but he ends up tying it around his waist, saying "It's hot in here." Still seeing Pam in pain, he takes out a hankercheif and hands it to her. She takes it, he goes over, sits down next to her and puts his arm around her to comfort her. And after a dramatic pause, hes breaks the silence by saying "You must be really PMSing." And Pam just nods her head and says "Yeah, that's it."

I love this simple scene so much. From that one long shot of her at the end of the hallway dwarfed by the walls of the hallway to the beats and the delivery. And it shows how Dwight can be both compassionate and an oblivious jerk at the same time. And that this show can combine both gust-busting laughs and heart-breaking moments at the same time.

First great TV moment of the year, and it's only Jan 4th.

Shows on TV now:
House
Veronica Mars
LOST (grudgingly, for a while, but I think it's getting better)
Office
Scrubs
Studio 60 (probably my favorite of the above, except maybe Scrubs or Veronica... maybe)

Not on TV:
OH MY GOD WONDERFALLS. I just got the DVD of this and went through the episodes and hooooly crap, how did I not know about this show? Man!

I liked no shows like Firefly.

There were some movies I liked. I really liked the movie Casino Royale. When I went to see Casino Royale at the theatre, I was hoping to see an average James Bond movie. I saw Casino Royale and the movie far exceeded my expectations. The storyline in this James Bond movie was excellent. The acting in Casino Royale was excellent too. I was impressed with Daniel Craig's gritty and slightly dark portrayal of a 000 agent who was flawed in some ways still. The Bond girl of Vesper Lynd wasn't at all like the typical female characters in James Bond. I felt like watching this movie again straight after watching it.

Well, can't find another show quite like Firefly. But if anyone in for a good laugh. 30 Rock on NBC is hi-larious! Tina Fey writes for it. SNL like jokes. Alec Baldwin is very funny. Got to watch it.
