Okay, so it's just a 7" portable one I bought on a recent trip, but DAGG! I just watched Iron Man on it- the picture is absolutely stunning! I can see dents & seams on the suit I NEVER saw on my 27" TV!!!
I may have to get a bigger one (y'know, after this depression lifts, that is).

Anyone wanna coment on their excellent viewing equipment?

When the riots come this summer grab one out of the store. Might have to get a cohort to help you carry the 48" into the van. Wear wigs. Iron Man was made for LCD. How about Transformers. Yeh that't the ticket.

"Battle of Serenity, Mal. Besides Zoe here, how many-" "I'm talkin at you! How many men in your platoon came out of their alive".

I'm not greedy, a 25" will do me fine.

And while you're at it, switch to HD also. It's like being in the theater.

I've seen both Iron Man and The Dark Night on Blu-Ray on an HDTV. Awesome!

I prefer to go on about how HD really isn't ALL THAT until such time as I can afford it.

Okay, now I watched parts of Serenity on my teenie-tiny LCD, and I have to say, the picture was a little short of what I saw of it on Blu Ray, but just a little. I noticed junk like the flashing of light on the back wall of the cockpit during the burn through- really, it was amazing. Funny, in a darkened room, after a few minutes, I'm not even aware how small the screen is.

Two or three weekends ago I finally got a bluray copy of Serenity, could not find one less than $29, Wallyworld did not have it. Then got a copy of bluray Firefly (every store said it was not available, until my fave music store said yep, here it is). Then I got a bluray player to play them on. I figured the 10inch screen I've been using wouldn't suffice, so I then got a little LCD screen (32inch).
Already had an upcoverter DVD player, hooked both up via HDMI. Upconverter is better on some DVDs, but bluray's HD is awesome on Serenity BDM, and possibly better than plain DVD on Serenity Pilot - the difference I saw might just be the bigger screen.
Lost a week or 2 checking out some faves on my new toys - some Serenity, Firefly, Gladiator, Transformers, Dances with Wolves, T2, etc.
Now I see Serenity bluray is at walmart for under $20, along with Road Warrior around $15, other interesting titles to investigate with bluray.

I'm thinking Saving Private Ryan would be good on bluraqy, will have to look for it.

I've been viewing everything on a 50" Sony Wega for the past few years. At the time a 1080p was costing a little more than I would have liked to spend but 720p/1080i is good enough for me. Only have a few Bluray movies but they all look stunning. Speed Racer and Dark City are my personal favorites for pure visual stunnery.

Last year after getting a nice little sum for my 21st I had two options.

1. Save it up, economy is getting wonky, might be handy to have some funds to fall back on or...

2. Samsung LE40 A656 Hdtv and Surround sound.

So yeah... I got myself a nice Samsung HDtv and big assed sound system.

Watching Ironman on blu ray on that system is freakin smurf.

I plan to get a 720p LCD 25" & an upconverting DVD player, that's all I really need, and it'll save me millions of dollars as well.

I say, go to the store, watch them side by side, and find what YOU like. I got mine a li'l over a year ago - Westinghouse 42" HD LCD (1080p). I love-love-LOVE it! Got it for $699. Regular street price on this model is in the $1100-1300 range. No idea why this one was so cheap.

What I like about the LCD over plasma - the matte finish on the screen. The plasmas I looked at all had glossy screens, and screen glare and reflections are a definite issue for me, having big windows on two sides of the room.

My DVDs look pretty good on this, but HDTV looks *astonishing*. Seriously, it's just about ruined me for DVDs or regular TV. 480i looks like poo; 720i is just about acceptable, but 1080 is phenomenal.

I need to say the change between HD and standard def seemd quite a big difference for me.

Most dvds still look pretty decent I think, some upscale quite nice too, but for me blu ray is better. I play a lot of videogames, and that was the main factor in my decision to jump up to 1080p HD. The change between playing my PS3 or 360 on the HDtv and just standard definition is like night and day.

If you like games I'd suggest looking into HD for sure. If it was just for the movies, I'm not as sure I'd have upgraded just yet.

Be sure to check the settings on your equipment. I just found out that my new bluray player was set to output 480!!! WFT??? Even on the HDMI cable!!! Now read the directions for my 3 components, have them set, now need to go back through my fave titles to re-evaluate the visuals.

Did not realize there were redundant controls and settings both on the outputs of the player (each output has it's own set of controls), and also on the inputs of the screen, and also on the dislpay of the screen - any one of the settings can degrade your image.
