I've never really been into fan fiction, but I read a pretty good one the other day (Think it was called 'stay' by goldenthorn). I wouldn't mind reading more, so I wondering if anybody had any suggestions as to what I should read to sustain me until the movie is out.

Ohmigod, if you like goldenthorn's stuff, you will LOVE the following:

anything by Tara O'Shea, also known as LJC, whose stuff is all around The Blue Sun Room, but also at her site, ljconstantine.com; follow her fic links or links to Firefly stuff. Her two long stories, "That Old Yeh Shen Story" and "Lex Talionis," are the two best pieces of fanfic I've read in years.

Also two authors with work at www.fanfiction.net: maystone, and bookworm10. Both do the characters really well.

that's maybe not enough info. tell us more exactly what you want to read. but maybe I should read the fic you mentioned and draw the conclusion from there...

I haven't read Firefly fic in a while (I'm deeply into Buffy of the B/G kind at the moment) but I remember that there are really good ones there.

so what are you looking for? ensamble fic? what kind of ratings? if a special character or pairing - who? are you solely into het or is slash interesting as well? I could point you to a really excelent author if male slash is ok.

I read a nice Firefly/Enterprise crossover once. but that one was on a list and also het and slash but not explicit. really good story with really good characterisation of both shows characters though. really showed the differences.

and here comes another good one (Simon-centric) "Ties That Bind" by Harriet Vane. it's here on the page somewhere. longish fic, really made me cry and I'm not sappy that way.

just say more specifically what you like to read I'm a drama, angst, h/c, smut lover but I also enjoy sillifics and some weird stuff. not so much the happily-ever-after-romance type though. prefer NC17 if it's not the same old over and over again. for really good sexy fic (Babylon 5 and Buffy) I'd recommend http://www.blastfurnace.org/
but that's probably very much subject to taste.

I just looked it up:
"Stay" is PG13 heavy drama with character death, right? I think I actually read it a while ago. wasn't bad but I wasn't too excited about it either. no offence intended.
maybe "Ties That Bind" is the right recommendation. more Simon less Mal but kind of similar in it's intensity (without character death).

and now I know I've read too much slash, there's another good one coming to mind: "Rough Edges" it's called. but that's Mal/Simon as I recall.
