BORIS

Was sitting on the bus minding my own business when I overheard the following;
girl/woman in her 20's to her friend in a loud whisper" Oh my god that chick three seats down has Tourette's look at her"
to which 1/4 of the people on the bus turned around and looked at me...ok I ws a bit twitchier than usual but didn't think it warranted extra scrutiny.
girl: "Oh my god LOOK at her!"
Me:(in a low calm and admittedly acidic voice) "Honey I'm not deaf I'm right here I can HEAR you...and so can everyone else so please display some courtesy"
Girl: "for your infiormation I wasn't talking to you I was having a conversation with my friend"
Me: You were talking ABOUT me so I believe that qualifies me to respond.
Girl: you should Mind your own business
Me: I will when you stop objectifying me.
She then stops...but when she's getting off the bus she says:
"you shouldn't have butt into our conversation".
My final response: Yeah You're right. You have the intellectual capacity of a goldfish there's no reasoning with people like you it was a colossal waste of my precious resources to even try.
Her just as she's getting off: "I'm just as smart as you".
Me and about half of the people on the bus including the bus driver thought that was pretty funny.
Just an interesting slice of my cartoonish life
Feel free to comment or offer your own slices :-).

Operative: "Its worse than you know..." Mal: "It usually is."

People are rude, and as far as I am concerned, getting ruder.

see, the difference is, they were having a dialogue. if you were sitting next to a friend when they made those comments, and responded by whispering to your friend "gee, those girls three seats down are terribly rude and awful to look at, which is probably a product of fetal alcohol syndrome and varieties of acquired brain damage", there would have been no issue because you'd be playing by their rules.

Hang in there, Boris.
Treatments improve all the time.

My mom always used to say that it was rude to point out to people when they were being rude, and I asked, "Then how will they know they are being rude?" It was a conundrum, never solved, but good for you for sticking up for yourself. Sometimes it just becomes necessary.

There's just no winning, is there?

You feign sleep so people on the bus leave you alone, you not-quite-feign insanity when a guy thinks you might be a prostitute, and GOD help you if there's ever any overlap, because it REALLY just does NOT end well.

I'm impressed with your restraint, Boris.
Were I in your place, several "colourful metaphors" might have been included.

Chrisisall...generally I'm less restrained. I tend to mess with people like that for my own amusement as I feel they've more or less invited me to. I stop short in doing that in situations where it may make innocent bystanders uncomfortable (like other passengers). I feel vindicated by the fact that the girl in question was recognised for the dumbass that she is by the majority of the people sharing the bus ride. She made a total dick of herself and was aware of that on some level. To be honest most people could care less that I twitch etc. It's just that tiny but disturbingly rising percenatge of devolved trogladites that are getting ruder and bolder, as a result of improper guidance and boundary setting... we seem to live in a world where the reality TV mentality is coming out of the lounge room and being transferred to real life. e.g in my situation it never crossed dumbgirls' mind that I'm a living breathing human and not a spectacle (ooh you're right Piratenews it is the same thing celebs endure). She didn't even see me as real and therefore didn't consider my feelings. this mentality disturbs me...on two ocassions I've actually had people film me on their phones so they could show their friends what they saw (though I can't imagine why someone flinging their arms and jerking their neck would seem that interesting/entertaining) I hope it didn't end up on youtube. Sad thing is dumbgirl will probably keep behaving that way despite being embarassed by my treatment of her because she's so very....stoopid.

You could try this method of exchange on the bus:

ha ha if only we could fight back like that...actually I prefer to baffle them with my wit and superior intelligence...the benefit of that is that they become the spectacle instead of me....hmmmm does that make me a hypocrite I wonder? I'm potentially using the whole watching other people suffer thing in reverse, but to people who've asked for it. Gag...now I'm conflicted.

too true. Does that make me a bully when I annhililate them? or not because they are armed with malice and ignorance?
my motto is essentially "smack me and I will smack you back"(unless you're a little kid in which case I will try to be a positive role model)

doing it after doesn't serve any purpose. doing it during a)hopefully goes part of the way towards teaching the morons to grow some intelligence (ok I know this is a somewhat idealistic goal) b) shows others it's Ok to assert yourself and anyone can do it...has a right to do it c) you don't go home saying "I wish I had said or done...and kicking yourself because of someone else's ignorance.
Always always always hold your head up folks. we all deserve the right to be treated with respect.
