Last month I was busy and neglected to post about the anniversary of the start of Firefly, which began principal shooting in March 2002.

For me, this coming August will be 10 years since I found Firefly during a SyFy Marathon. I had seen Serenity in Cinema, but it didn't make as much sense without having seen Firefly.
I had intended to mark the 10th Anniversary as well, but in March or 2012 I could not find or access FFF.net, and had thought it was defunct.

How has the passage of time affected your attitude toward the episodes, the camaraderie, the lines and dialogue, the Emmy-Award winning SFX, and, yes, the melancholy?
Has it changed your favorites, or how you recall them?

http://fireflyfans.net/mthread.aspx?tid=33969

I suppose we should post in this thread how long we've been Browncoats, if you wish.
I saw Serenity in Cinema, Sept 2005, and Firefly in August 2007. I came here not too long after that.

( annoyed at current events, relating to Joss, but I'll play nice here and remember better days... )

As I've said on fff.net before, I was a reverse Joss fan. Friends ( female types ) had raved on and on about Buffy and then Angel. " Duh, why wouldn't they ? ", I thought. Bunch of pretty people dealing w/ pretty people problems and an occasional monster tossed in for effect. Blech. Or so I had thought. So sure, I had KNOWN of Buffy / Angel, seen a few eps, but wasn't really caught up into the whole 'verse, at it were.

I thought Spike was silly and lame.

But THEN I saw the previews for Firefly. " Hmmm... space whores, huh? " . I was intrigued. I really wasn't sure what to expect, only that it was going to be different from what ever else was on. And boy, it was sooo different!

The look of the ships, the dialogue, the characters... immediately got me hooked. It was so different, but not in a " Hey! Notice us! We're different! " sort of way. It just opened the door, grabbed me and said " Here's how it is... " , and off we went.

Even my late dad, who absolutely had zero interest in " sci-fi " couldn't help but notice. I say when you reach a man like that, you've done something special.

And Firefly sure as hell was exactly that.

btw - Spike is wicked cool, imo. Took me a while to figure that out on my own.

Today I had a pre-employment physical. The lady doing the stuff heard that I watched Arrival last night, she had not heard of it, oh- it's Sci-Fi? That's why she wouldn't have heard of it or seen it. She only recently had relented to her bro-in-law and watched some TV show which she liked, and now she's waiting to see the new movie they made following the show.
Yep, Firefly, and she couldn't recall the film name until I prompted Serenity - yep that's the one. I told her the TV Pilot had won the Emmy for SFX that year. She didn't realize it was 15 years old. She was surprised.

I was also wondering what habits from our heyday you still retain?

I still say shiny and cash-money.

15 years? Geez, it feels like the 10th anniversary was just the other day.

I used to have multiple viewings every year but it has tapered off severely the last few years. I still watch an episode or two occasionally but probably only do a full viewing once a year if that much. I did have it playing in the background on Netflix before they dumped it, just because.

The show first caught my eye with the infamous "Girl in a Box" ad. I noticed it was from Joss, whom my girlfriend was a big fan of. I wasn't a fan back then, but I figured I'd give it a chance since it was SciFi. The premiere came along, got me hooked and left me wondering where the girl in the box was. I started researching about it on the Web and found the OB. Didn't like the format, looked around some more and landed here. And never left. Thanks, Haken.

I still use Shiny and Bwaaahhh!
Ever now and then a Gorram will slip out.

Anyone have a link to the original girl in a box ad? It seems to have been wiped clean off the internet.

Shiny still gets used. Cashy money, on rare moments . Gorram too. And lines, here and there...

I'll think of Chinese lines, but never say them out loud.

I'll be in my bunk

October 2005 for me, lurked here for a year or so.

I call crazy people reavers all the time. Definitely affected the decor of the house, although we already liked steampunk.

The bad luck aspect of the show always felt homey. I think I have always waited for the crew to make good just to know it COULD happen. Better Days was nice...

Oooo. Last month was 10 years since I first saw an episode. Last part of Ariel, starting with Hands of Blue bleeding the eyes.

15 year old eps look better than most stuff out new now. I love the BlueRay episodes.

They're releasing a 15th Anniversary Bluray set.

From the description, it looks like the old set repackaged will collectibles.
Doesn't look like any new material on the discs.

I was hoping they'd at least put the Browncoats Unite! special from the 10th Anniversary on it.

Maybe somebody who gets this can let us know what kinds of shiny goodies it has.

That was an auspicious start.

It was a Friday Night.
Debut was in the time slot occupied the previous year by Dark Angel.
Shows of other networks in the same time slot were apparently Providence, Funniest Home Videos, (incorrect: 48 Hours Investigates,) What I Like About You/Sabrina TTW.
The time slot led into another new show, John Doe, which I remember thinking looked interesting.

Had Dark Angel reruns continued through the summer of 2002? It seemed to have withered away a bit, so I don't know if it was just dropped, or allowed to repeat until Firefly came along. I know the original season ran strong, and reruns continued until the 2nd season aired.

I don't recall DA reruns over the summer, but I don't think I was paying attention back then.

John Doe did also first air on 20 Sep, but I didn't know that an actor on that show was Gary Werntz, who we know from Safe.
Providence was since 1999, with Melina Kanakaredes from Due South, plus Angela Featherstone and Jon Hamm.
48 Hours Investigates was not it that time slot in Sep, until sometime in October when Dan Blather got replaced.

Yesterday, Thursday, was the 16th Anniversary of the Original Broadcast of Pilot Serenity.

And also, sadly, the final day of filming.

What Would Mal do ?

that was fun to see..thanks... hadn't ever seen that...the quick 10-15? second spots that had run basically showed Serenity doing a flyover a horse coral or something...anyway..it wasn't enough to catch my interest... like many, I wasn't aware of Firely until I started seeing the trailers for Serenity and thought that might be a fun movie to go watch...and only then, did I find Firefly. I had hybernated the show/movie for a couple years now.. I like to get some distance so I can enjoy it again..but last night surfing channels I saw it was on one of my premiums...couldn't help myself..had to stop and watch...still love it...and yes, I do enjoy the series I think more, but the movie hits the spot as well.
