Baltimore, would you like to meet The Real Me, now?

Yes, beyond all reason, the silver tongue of The Real Me has managed to convince his superiors that he needs training that can only be found in the fine state of Maryland! Today I received notice that my request has been approved. It only took them two months. That’s not bad, really.

Current plans are that I will be in the area of Columbia, Maryland, the week of May 9-13 of this year. I may extend my time over one or both weekends on either side of this week, but I haven’t decided the details, yet. It WOULD be kind of nice to take some extra time to see Washington, DC, as I’m past due on my traditional once-per-decade vacation there.

Anyway, I would love to have the chance to meet any Browncoats in the area. I will probably arrange some evening to meet any interested folks in a local mall, as this sort of plan has worked well for my Cincinnati trips. I am familiar with the Columbia Mall and the Arundel Mills Mall (south of Baltimore), but I’d accept any suggestions that would be more convenient to folks.

Left to my own decision, I’d pick Arundel for a meet-up, since it’s bigger and probably more centrally located. Multiple meet-up sites could be possible over the week.

So, please let me know if there is anybody who would care to come.

And yes, Mal-licious. It looks like our infamous Home Depot date is on!

You know, Mal, there’s quite a lot of Home Depots around Baltimore. You’ll have to give me directions, I’m afraid.

I haven't the foggiest idea where ANY of the Home Depots in Maryland are. I just assumed there would be one in Baltimore. Ooops!

I do not know my way around down there at all, I will have to wait until we choose a meetup spot and then just drive around aimlessly yelling out "TheRealMe! Where are you, Me? Oh, MEEEeeee!"

I'm sure someone will help me. And if they "help" me into a straight-jacket, so be it.

We still have plenty of time to decide.

Gee, Mal, you're sounding like you never expected me to actually get out there for our Home Depot date! Oh, ye of little faith!

Hello, everyone!

Not only will I be around Baltimore for a week taking a class (May 9-13), but I will also stay over the following weekend and a few days into the next week. Probably, I will depart on Wednesday, but I haven’t decided the details, yet. I do want to get a chance to travel to Washington and do some site-seeing.

Also, if any generous person in the area decided to hold a shindig, I would be honored to attend. Friday the 13th or sometime that weekend would be best, of course. My own resources would be limited, I’m afraid, to a hotel room and whatever I can bring in my luggage.

And STATIC! My goodness! While I would be truly humbled by one of my virtual friends driving five hours to see me, I have to admit that I don’t think that I’d be worth it!

Although, if you consider Mal-licious as part of the deal, then I guess I could understand.

Greetings! The Real Me has made his plane reservations.

I will be perhaps twenty minutes west of the Baltimore, Maryland area beginning on the evening of Sunday, May 8, 2005. I will depart on the following Tuesday afternoon, May 17. My weekdays will be taken up until Friday the 13th though I’ll have some time each evening for something, and I think that I’ll be out early on Friday. I have plans for Saturday the 14th. As for the rest of my time, I’d sort of like to check out Washington, DC, at some point.

Some time during this visit I want to meet local browncoats in some handy location. By default, I will make this some evening south of Baltimore in Arundel Mills Mall (because I’m already familiar with it). However, I’m quite willing to try some other place that is more convenient for those traveling, if such persons would just let me know.

And hey, Mal-licious! This is a neutral state! It has Home Depots! How about it?

TRM!

20 minutes west? Oh, no, that's too far. DARN! If only it were 17 minutes. Sorry. Maybe next time.

KIDDING! I would be de(pot)lighted! Friday the 13th is ideal. I'm done work at 11:00am and if we are to meet that evening, I'll have PLENTY of time to get sufficiently lost.

This mall of which you speak would probably be a better place to aim myself, though. That way, I could ask various homeless people (perhaps ones wearing Firefly shirts??) where "The Mall" is and they would most likely point me toward the correct one---as opposed to asking them where a particular Home Depot is and being directed to one (or more) of the others. Or WORSE, (*shudders*) a LOWE'S.

Shall I attempt to tether Tethys and bring him as well? He is a DE guy. But he might have to "work." Or whatever it is he does. Hardware might be willing as well. I feel confident that he would LIKE to go, at any rate.

Hmm...let's see. No crab joints to my knowledge. You've got DuClaw's, good food and better beer. Chevy's Mexican Grill. Fuzio International Pasta (not on my list of best places to eat). Chilli's. Food court (at least a dozen different fast food joints).

For a bit of entertainment with your meal, you've got Jillians, which is like the ESPN Zone: arcade games, pool hall, bowling alley, restaraunt, even a Hibachi Grill. You've also got Medieval Times, where you sit in stands around a huge indoor dirt pit and watch an entire medieval tournament, complete with knights, horses, jousting, swordfights, etc. You eat with your hands, and yes, they serve beer.

Outside the mall there's Golden Corral buffet, TGI Friday's, Damon's, and a slew of fast food joints.

Um...I think that's about it.

So Malicious, what'll it be?

Gunnings, straight west on 100 at Coca Cola Drive exit (you'll see it on your left as you're on 100) has pretty decent crab(cakes). It may have crabs as well. Since I like my crabs pretty much unidentifiable as crustaceans, I've never noticed if they have whole crabs.

If you want to go further afield to Westminster, Frisco's Family Pub on 140 has crabs. Also, not far from a Home Depot.

I get back there every now and then on business, but that week is not going to be one of them.

Also, Home Depot in Columbia is on Snowden River Parkway, which is pretty much just a strip of big box stores. It's accessible from Rt 100, as well. Or Rts 32 or 175.

Very well! We will meet for our Baltimore get-together on Friday the 13th of May, 2005 (auspicious!). This will be at the Arundel Mills Mall, south of Baltimore around exit 10 of Rt 100. If you are on Interstate 95, take Rt 100 East (more like southeast). If you are on Interstate 97, take Rt 100 West. Arundel Mills is not far from the airport.

We will meet in the approximate center of the food court. Since various folks might take different times to get there, I may wander in and out, as I have a limited attention span, but I suppose that I’ll hit the meeting place on every half-hour, starting at… when?

Perhaps those folks coming could indicate when they would expect to arrive (then we could maybe add an hour, for the expected unexpected traffic jams).

Well, I will probably show up starting at 5:00 or 5:30 pm. It would be most convenient for all of us to eat in the food court or some restaurant in the mall. However, if Mal-licious commands it, we must set out on Crab Quest. To be fair, we will need to set a time that we are going to dinner, or perhaps even warn folks where this restaurant will be. I’d hate to miss somebody who came a little late. Perhaps this needs more thought.

Anyway, those of you attending may recognize The Real Me by the description in his profile, by pictures linked to by the “Cincinnati, Meet the Real Me” thread from this latest Christmas (though I now have a beard), or, failing all that, by the fact that I’ll be the one wearing the t-shirt that says “The Real Me”.

I don't know....that's still kind of vague.....What if I wore a TheRealMe shirt as well? Chaos!

Hate to rain on your parade Mal, but the Cinnabon closed about 6 months back. Don't know why. Really pissed me off.

While this did start out as part of my multi-phase plan to win Mal-licious' heart, and it was to involve a date at Home Depot, I can see how she might be getting all creepified over this.

(That just means the plan has to go subtle!)

Please, everyone is encouraged to participate.

Mal, I'll see if I can get there around 4pm. Probably no big deal.

Let's go for the approximate middle of the food court for starters.

And we will wait for the stragglers. Of those folks who might come, could you give an estimated time of arrival? We need to know when to take the group photo, after all!

MALICIOUS

Oh, I have an idea! We could meet at the food court and then go to a crab place and leave a clue as to our whereabouts for those who come after us! Perhaps something in code. Like:

"Browncoats! Went to crab place called "(insert name of crab place)" and the address is "(insert address of crab place). Meet us there. Signed Mal-Licious, TRM, Soul, Gonzai, and Static who drove 5 hours for this because Mal-Licious offered him a dollar."

"Let's go be bad guys."
