WHITEFALL

I'm sure there is much controversy out there about spoilers, that some people want to remain unspoiled, some want anything they can get. Frankly, I think it's really interesting.

Anyhoo, I for one am gonna watch that trailer come Tuesday, as soon as I can. For one thing, i'm hoping El Whedon will keep some of the good stuff out of it. But actually my motivation for seeing it is different.

I wanna be sure I can ask anyone, "So how was HG2tG? Oh and did you see the trailer for Serenity?" Or even better, be able to explain it for someone who asks!

I have always felt that we firefly fans are in it not only cause we love the show, but we feel it is something that should be shared. Thus, I am gonna make sure I know what the masses know about our big damn movie.

(As for a conversation; um...) Discuss.

I'm still torn, but I'm leaning toward the not-seeing it direction. As much as I yearn for a fresh bit o' the 'verse, I would prefer to be stunned, amazed and surprised when I see the BDM. Although, if it just happens to be shown on television every twenty minutes for the next 5 months, I won't complain. (GOD, that sounds so far away!).

I think I will add cursing and the hurling about of things to my repertoire.

Sounds like a good recruitment plan. I'll definitely be looking for the trailer and expect to watch it at least a dozen times before leaving for my Tues classes.

I am also torn on whether or not to view the trailer. Way back in the day, when I first learned of Serenity, I vowed to keep myself spoiler free. At the time, of course, we were given an April date for its release and I was so overjoyed with the mere concept of more Firefly that I would have gladly sacrificed my first born to the gods of Universal Studios, if such a request was made of me.

For the most part, I have kept myself to this promise. Sure, I've seen a few of the production/promotional photos floating around, but have adamantly refused to read anything concrete about the movie and definately stayed away from any reviews posted by the fortunate few who were lucky enough to get an advanced screening.

However, I believe that I will lift my self-imposed ban for this Tuesday's trailer simply because ignoring it will probably prove impossible. Basically, everyone who is a fan of the series is dying to see how our BDH's have translated onto the silver screen. I think that viewing this trailer will help to sate the hunger that has been building since the cancelation of the series. At the very least, you can consider it a limited replacement for the original release date that we were promised. Finally, we have Joss' own promise that the video will be mostly spoiler-free, so if you can't trust that source, who can you trust?

Final word: Watch the trailer and save yourself a long summer of torture. It won't spoil the movie. It will give you a well deserved taste of something we all have been patiently waiting to see for over 2 years.

I'm not gonna be downloading it ('cause I'm on dialup and I know full well what the traffic's gonna be like), but I'll certainly not shut my eyes when/if I see it in theatres.

Important people don't do field work.

The first on any new kind of Firefly footage in almost three years? Clearly presented? Yeah, I'll be watching it. I don't think I could stop myself. But, I do love trailers anyways.

Simon: "It means more out here. It's all I have..."

I'm fairly spoilerwhorey anyways, so there's no question about whether or not I'm gonna watch it.

But I do have a thought. I'm wondering if Universal is going to track the downloads of the trailer. If we end up breaking the Apple webspace tomorrow then maybe that would be a good sign to them that the Browncoats are still around and still rabid.

Just wondering, do studios look out for those sorts of things?

How do you know it won't ruin the movie? There's plenty of films out there that have been ruined, absolutely ruined by the trailer, allowing even half-brained people to work out the entire plot from it.

There's quite a few of us who have seen the rough cut who will be glad to let you know if the trailer gives away too much. Joss probably doesn't have enough clout (yet) to dictate the trailer to his own liking so it's probably best to be a bit cautious for the time being.

I agree. I personally am going to be careful not to watch the trailer. When Firefly was handed to me over a year ago I recieved a pure, unspoiled experience. It was worth it. For too many years I've watched trailers and read spoilers on websites and when it was over and the film/TV show was released, I realized too late that I wasn't as happy. What sealed it for me was when I read a spoiler website for Buffy season 6 where I learned that

Select to view spoiler:

Tara was going to be shot and killed.

I placed that in spoiler text so as not to ruin someone elses experience like I ruined mine. Serenity is so important to me that I cannot threaten it. It means that when I go to see the Hitcherhikers Guide in 2 weeks I'll certainly need an aisle seat so I can bolt from it and eat popcorn in the hall. I'll probably end up looking like an idiot too.

Do not fear me. Ours is a peaceful race, and we must live in harmony.

Why don't you do what half the people in Ottawa tend to do, and just show up late. Mybe even half-way through the frelling movie. Then climb over folks to get to your seat, spilling popcorn & soda all the way. . .

Thinking of expanding the Special Hell's entry criteria. . .

EDIT: This isn't directed at Thiefjehat, it's just a general ironic commentary on the behaviour I encounter at theatres. No offense is intended, as I'm sure everyone here's better than that. We're not total back-births.

Um...we have the exact opposite. We have his word that it's spoilerific.

lol sounds pretty spoilerific to me...myself i dont mind it will be gr8 to find out where Jos is taking the show in the film if, as he suggests he is making it more 'epic' for the big screen (i predict reavers, and spooky blue hand guys and alliance feds getting killed + gunfire and resolutions to some of the relationships e.g. simon and kaylee)

I caved. Totally worth it. Now I can't wait even more!

Wow, I thought I had more willpower than that.
