Alright, this is my first approach on creating a fan video.

It came out completely different as planned and much shorter but I think this is the strength of it after all.

- short and straight forward
- just glances, no talking or showing talking people
- minimalistic (I use effects only if they really make sense)

Title: Love kills
Characters: Mal, Inara (for the 1567th time I guess)
Pairings: Mal/Inara
Music: Babble - The Stone
Warnings: Two damaged frames (0:46, 1:02)- Sorry! Just couldn't get rid of those. It's a pity, but no big deal.
Format: WMV
Length: 1:20 - short clip project ;-)
Size: ~4 MB
Download: www.botttos.de//Mainpage/Open/Firefly/love_kills.wmv

It might look simple, but took me more than 5 hours! (No kidding)

Have fun, Chris

"It might look simple, but took me more than 5 hours! (No kidding)"

I think those of us who make fan videos know how much time flies by no matter how short the video time.

Nice job with your first attempt and have some fun with the timing as well. You don't need to have a shot drag on for too long. Just looking at music videos today is mind boggling that most shots are less than one second. Especially in your video when in the second half the music speeds up.

I have a thirty second space battle from Babylon 5 in my first fan video. At the time, I thought it was cool, but it is out of context and really drags - so we all need to work on timing. However, you did pretty damn good for your first try and I look forward to seeing more.

Gotta love the last quote in your video. :-)

Hey, that's pretty cool!

I really like that cut into her crying, it worked well.

Vidding is a time consuming labor of love, we all know it.

Good work!

Thank you all for your kind words :-)

The main problem (besides the obvious lack of experience) was to find nice close ups. Mostly they do a close up to show someone talking, but that's exactly what I didn't want to include. That "no words"-policy made it much harder than I thought.

To be truthful, it's not the first clip I ever created, but the first dedicated to a tv show and to be presented to it's fans (hence my first fan movie).

I have a pretty unique idea for volume two on my mind already, don't know if I can get it to work though.

You can zoom in on a shot to make it a close up - all depending on if your editing program can do this. The downside is you will get noticeable pixelation the more you zoom in.

I have also created a 320x240 project instead of 720x480 (DV) so when I put the 720x480 into this project it was 25% size. If you increase the size of the video, you are "zooming" in without quality loss - downside, you are stuck at 320x240. If you are making a video for the web, this could work. But if you want to put it on your television set, it will probably look a tad crappy. :-)

No hard and fast role, but you can be creative and come up with some unique ways to get what you want.

Good luck!
