Sitting in a tree. K-I... Oops wrong topic.

/Shudders at the thought.

While Jayne does have some issues with Wash ("That is some pretty dangerous sitting you did there" "That's right, of course, 'cause they wouldn't arrest me if we got boarded, I'm just the pilot. I can always say I was flying the ship by accident."), but I feel Wash really did resent having Jayne aboard (I especially got this feeling in OiS, where the comments for Wash were more than banter).

Is it only me or does Wash have real enmity against Jayne?

Unstudied-snap-opinion time: My feeling is that Wash spent some portion of his childhood being oppressed and generally relieved of his lunch money by young Jaynes-to-be...and maybe Jayne has some vague memory of the weak little kid(s) of his formative years...easy enough to bully, but their vocab was better developed and sense of humor (what he got of it) more sophisticated...

Edit: Sorry - I got so excited I forgot to really respond to the question. I'd never really thought about it before, but yeah, I agree, I think there was a little genuine animosity on Wash's part...and maybe would've been on Jayne's, too (or more so), if his attention span weren't so fully engaged by the Tams.

It was like that when I was there!

i think Wash feels Jayne is all brawn and no brain -
so, on the one hand he gets irritated when Jayne is 'dumb'
but on the other (as War Stories shows) it's clear that Wash is a little insecure about his own physical prowess. (the boob!)

Wash and Simon get the best anti-jayne lines... but Wash, i feel, understands how useful Jayne can be in a corner.

I think I feel the differently about that. Simon sees the use more than Wash IMO.

If it was up to Wash I doubt Jayne would be on the crew. it probably also narks him that Jayne goes around the back in Jobs (as a surprise) while Zoe (and Mal - but he is of secondary concern here) walk head on into known ambushes.

you could be right y'know because it occurs to me that Simon feels NO THREAT whatsoever from Jayne - not even after being set up by him. Simon feels his intellectual superiority as superiority pure and simple. hence confidence - and less real narc factor.

It's tempting to impeach Jayne's morals too but... Simon (as you are well aware) i believe to be a secret fiend so...

LOL

Actually, no I wasn't aware. That has come as a surprise to me. I can stand to hear more.

(I normally like to keep Firefly small. The crew to be unknown. The crew to not have any obvious "Evil Person of the Day"... but I do see the spat between Simon and Mal continuing for a long time.)

My frame of reference for Simon's attitude was "Trash", and the whole "we will have to sleep with one eye open or get along together. I choose not to kill you right now." bit as seeing the use in Jayne.

On ther other hand if Jayne got left behind, Wash would probably not lose any sleep. He may even advocate for it. All IMO ofcourse.

Gorram - but i wish you'd post some fic soon...
i'm in suspense.

(as for Simon - i have, suspicions...
he doesn't necessarily tell the truth,or the whole truth... (Joss carefuully reveals much of River's past via simon as a screen - his version of events only)

i could imagine him seeing a genetic modification programme as not necessarily a bad thing - make people better etc i find his relationship with river complex - and he manipulates kaylee - what 'underground movement'??? etc -but my thoughts are still vague right now.

i just don't trust him

(- oh but the alliance let him right in to the heart of their top secret base!!LOL)

but maybe after Galactica - hell, i just don't trust doctors...!

Unfortunately that's a long wait for a train that don't come.

I can do plotting. But as soon as I try writing I get 9 people that sound and talk like me.

While I find myself amusing, I doubt many others will.

It is a whole new level of Mary Sue/Marty Stue

(If anyone wants to write, I can give them a plot line for how I think the BDM 2 could start - not fully done as of how to get to a conclusion, but it has that early Serenity feel. I would love to read an actually written version.)

i'd be interested to know - do you expand out (towards the epic, BDM style) or stay in a tv state - (see questions of scale thread elsewhere) - or reduce? etc etc.

i ask since i tried recently post BDM fic to start Big and Grave - and Movie and gradually turn back. More towards a show (FF) type feel - but found it hard to do post BDM... compared to say post OIS which is kind of a lush point for me.

I like small. But where the BDM finished, that is probably hard to get to.

Even though there is nothing in the broadwave that specifically links to the crew, they are now known to the alliance, which was a big reason they could stay on the small scale. That is the issue that needs to be dealt with. ofcourse you could just say that the Operative destroyed all documentation, but there were 50 ships waiting for Serenity. Not all of the survivors would have amnesia. They would leave a trail of bread crumbs. "It was a firefly" "It was Reavers themselves" "It was browncoats" "There was an army". Nicely setting up to a legend.

I can imagine the crew in a bar where some other announces a toast and says it was them who sent the broadwave. I can the anger radiating off our BDH - but they also have to keep schtum.

What I have thought of is another "Movie" quickly following the BDM (maybe taking place only a month three after the BDM, but a slightly smaller scale. More focussing on Blue Sun and their operations. Think of the trouble shooters/HoB as two Jedi knights on a mission.) followed by a "series" going back to what we love.

The Series would naturally start off with an episode titled "Protege". A western with Zoe, Simon and Jayne going out on a job. As you do.

/Just notices that he has gone massively off topic in a topic he started himself!

wow - that's really interesting

i think you've nailed all the issues -

and that does actualy tie in a lot with what's coming up in AFpt 4 (tomorrow or sunday). not the treatmentbut thematics - definitely.

e.g - mega spoiler!:

Select to view spoiler:

“It was true – then – what the Sheriff said to you abut the storms – the Alliance?”
“You know yourself Shepherd.”
The Shepherd nodded. “Yes. Yes, I’m afraid that’s so.”
The table had gone quiet now. The shepherd’s eyes were troubled.
“So they’ll be lost then, come the storm – they’ll have no voice...”
Captain Reynolds set a fork down upon his plate with a firm hand. With the other he reached for a cup. Gripped it tightly.
“Oh they’ll have a voice.” He said fiercely. “We’ll give em one.” He gazed around at his crew, then back to the Shepherd. “You asked me Shepherd what does a man do after he’s sent out a wave, a big wave?”
“I did indeed Captain.”
“You send another. And another. People have a right to know... and in this case – I think they’ll be plenty-a contractors looking for business. -- And the applause that comes with a good deed done right.” Mal could not quite keep sarcasm from his words. Then his tone changed again. “You can’t keep stop the signal, Shepherd. A dead man told me that. He was right too.”
The Shepherd saw the determined look on Reynold’s face.
“Well, in that I’m glad Captain.”
“Ah, hey!” Said Keylee determinedly chipper. “Guess that makes us heroes all over again!”
Not often you get to spend company with a bona fide Hero.
The Shepherd gazed on at the chomping crew. Kaylee was laughing now at an off-hand remark of Zoe’s. “Just like ol’ times.” She smiled. For some reason, all eyes turned to Mal. He gazed around the cabin. His shoulders slumped slightly.
“Same old heroes” he said, looking at the Shepherd. “Only less so.”
Jayne burped loudly. Mal caught his eye. Jayne grinned. “Crime then?”
“Crime. Absolutely.”

With a last mischievous twitch of her fire bright tail, Serenity jumped at the stars.

THE END

"/Just notices that he has gone massively off topic in a topic he started himself!"
aww crap. guilty too sir - i'll be in my bunk.

LOL!!!!!

I also think that Wash resents Jayne hitting on Zoe. I know, I know, it's shallow but so are people. I think it bothers him that Jayne refuses to respect him and hitting on Zoe is just another expression of that.

Wow, I'll take that offer. I have the opposite problem- I can write okay, but I can never think of plots. Write to me soon and give me the plot line, please? It doesn't matter if there isn't an ending, I can roll the ball, so to speak, but I can't start the ball, if that makes sense.
