BLUE SUN ROOM

Would anyone be offended if I posted this story here?

My muse is taking me down a very strange road - it wants me to write a M/S slash fic that might be quite dark but - at this stage at least - won't be in graphic detail. It has to be slash because of events certain characters have been through.

I think there's only one slash fic story on this site and I don't want to upset anyone's sensibilities.

Any views?

Slash isn't exactly my cup of tea but I personally have no problem with it being posted up in the Blue Sun Room

I had discussed with Haken the idea of having either an 'adult content' area of the blue sun room, an 'adult content' warning icon for certain items, and/or a user profile preference to hide/ignore such items. It's among the long list of enhancements Haken wants to get to in his "copious spare time". ;)

In the meantime, I imagine few would be offended as long as you are clear in the title and possibly add a brief warning line at the top so those who don't want to see or be exposed to such things can avoid it. For example, something like:

TITLE: Kaylee does Prarie High (adult content)

TOP OF STORY: WARNING -- This story contains graphic sexual depictions involving Firefly characters. If you are offended by this, please do not read further.

Jayne, your mouth is talkin. Might want to look into that.

Thanks for your quick response! I really don't think it's going to be graphic - (I don't think I can handle it particularly well) - more of a love story.

Do what the boys have already been telling you - mark it plainly at the top. If anyone sees it and reads it anyway and is offended, then it's their fault, not yours. As for my own self, I'll give anything a read once. I do reserve the right to skip over the things I might personally find offensive, though. Nothing personal.

Well, heck--there's a Blue Sun Room message board. Guess I ought to look around more often ;-)

Yes, Kispexi2, I see from your comment on your last story that this piece is itching to get written. Go for it. Slash not so much my thing but I'll read anything you write. Almost certainly will offend some but it's their choice to read or not past the big warning you'll put at the top--and it will be *far* from the only slash posted there. Be nice to see one with some legitimate motivation behind it, not just someone seeing someone else's delectable backside and suddenly having a total out-of-character interlude. BTW, you're forbidden from using the word 'delectable' in the story--biggest damn cliche word in all of slash fic.

Well, you already know my feelings about Slash...as far as it being posted here, I say sure, why not? But I agree with what the others have said about making it clear it is slash/adult content.

That way I can flame the folks who hate Slash but read it anyway and give you bad reviews.

Or at least mock their stupidity in wasting their time reading something they should have known they were not going to enjoy.

I agree with all of the above and like slash so I'll read it. :)
Oh, I should tell you I'll read it if it's written in proper English: good grammar, word order no throwing about of tenses and spelled correctly!!! NOT KIDDING but don't think I'm trying to stop you from writing, please. Good luck.

I'd have to step into the Robyn camp on this one. I'll forgive a little intermittent bad spelling and unfortunate comma usage, but only so far. Some of the best storylines I've read have had some grammar glitches, but if it gets too far out of control, I will bounce out.

A word to the wise - get thee a beta reader. Someone who will be honest and unafraid to edit.

Incidentally, I did read this slash and found it excellent.

I draw...therefore I am.

Yay! Channain, Always nice to hear from someone else who wants to protect the English language against marauders. :)

You say: get thee a beta reader, I say get thee two beta readers and make them go through your story more than once. Read your final draft aloud to yourself, it helps.
I would say this to any writer of any kind whether they write for publication on paper or the internet.

Robyn.

EMBERS

I have no problems with an kind of fanfic, if it is adult then I guess it should be labeled as such...
but usually when someone refers to 'slash' they mean gay...
is that what you are talking about?
a pairing with two of the guys,
or two of the girls together?
I wasn't sure if that is what you meant
but of course I was assuming that M/S meant Mal and Simon...right?

I have no problem with that either though...:D

Thanks for all the feedback - I'm hoping no-one's saying I maraud the English language. I try to write in character, so if there's any marauding going on, blame Mal, Jayne, Kaylee and Zoe.

I will put warnings where needed - but let's just say I plan to be real vague and leave it up to the dirtiness of the reader's mind.
