I was wondering if anyone has shelled out the cash.

What kind of wonderful is it? Got any pictures?

It is THE best browncoat out there. I'm lucky enough to have one, and I *love* it.

You can see pics of me in it here:

The first three pics in that gallery are of me with Jonathan, when I picked up my coat at his gallery the day Flan2 was cancelled.

And there's a good pic of Bix in it here:

I've seen Abbyshot coats and own a Logan. Jonathan's coats are better in quality and construction than the Abbyshot coats, not to mention that they're made by the same man who made the original Mal's coat. He has the buckles custom cast, just as he did the original ones. Looking at the web site for Abbyshot, no mention is made of the kind of leather used - but Jonathan uses deerskin, just as the original was. To top it off, a Logan browncoat is a good investment... heaven forbid you should ever need to sell it, but if you do you're guaranteed top price because he's a well-known Hollywood designer.

As for the cost, it's quite comparable. Do yourself a favor and go for Jonathan A. Logan. You won't be sorry. :)

I should point out that there are a few over at the RPF who are dissatisfied with their Logan coats. Might be worth taking a look at: http://www.therpf.com/index.php?showtopic=117335&hl=logan+browncoat

I'm not trying to play Devil's Advocate here, just trying to help you get a full idea of what's going on...

I've got a Tristan browncoat and am delighted with it. It's deliberately not a cut for cut ringer for Mal's coat but that suited me - ymmv of course.

It's made from a lovely material, feels great and is more practical than the direct replicas.

Well, hmm. I'd love to be able to respond to those folks, as I can make some clarifications on their concerns, but that board (as in the past) doesn't take new registrations. That's frustrating, and also the reason why I go to PropCircle, instead.

In any case...

Yes, Jonathan's clasps have a stamp on them. He designed them, after all. The stamp isn't overwhelming by any means, not that noticeable, really.

Jonathan's coats are made from *deerskin* and not cattle leather, just like the original. (I don't believe any of the other reproductions are made with deerskin, as the original.) Deerskin is a much finer and supple grained leather than cattle leather, and is lighter weight. So yes, the leather feels "thinner" than what you might expect (if you're not used to deerskin) but it's very soft and supple. It is not an inferior material.

Any differences in cut of the sleeves and slits are due to sizing. He makes them to scale for the size. Buckle spacings would likely be the same, although I can't say that for sure. My buckle spacings are fine and fit my size, although since Mal never used them I don't, either.

I've had folks of all sizes try on my coat (I'm 5' 3" and chubby)... tall folks, skinny folks, burly folks, short ones... and it looks great and fits all of them.

I am *really* surprised about the email the one guy received in response to his concerns. Jonathan is a very, very nice guy and has always been extremely professional and generous in his dealings with me. He does have other folks in his studio who might be answering his email for him, perhaps?

One person referred to "the ones Shawna sold on EBay"... well, the ones Shawna was selling on EBay *were* Jonathan's coats. She wasn't making them, he was. She didn't make the original. He did. He made a lot of the leather pieces in Firefly, including Zoe's vest and such.

So. In any case, get what you're comfortable with. :)

Hey Jules, what's the link to order them again?

If I can't make the cruise, maybe I'll buy me a coat to take away the pain...still holding for the cruise, but the timing really sucks for me. Coat could be a nice, comforting alternative.

All kinds of wonderful! I got one a month ago and love it. Definitely worth the investment. Jonathan was very nice to me on the phone and in e-mail. We did the entire exchange over the computer (sending measurements, Paypal, etc.) but it fits like a dream even though I was never properly fitted for it! Since I'm petite I was also able to get it for a cheaper price due to the need for less deerskin. All in all, I'm extremely happy with it- it's my favorite coat! No pictures unfortunately...I intend to get around to those soon.
