Hey All,

For those of you worried about Serenity being armed with missiles and cannon, this screencap at Destiny's homepage clearly shows that the weapons are not being fired from Serenity:

i am new to the firefly series, so if i say anything noobish, please forgive me.

I really don't see why anyone would be upset over arming the Serenity...I mean, the captain was in the war, so call me a noob but would it not be wise to arm his vessel? i mean when on the ground the crew carries ammo a plenty

ACTUALLY....(Spoilers from movie below. Consider yourself warned.)

Select to view spoiler:

Serenity is armed for a brief time in the movie. Mal tries to disguise her as a Reaver ship, and has a cannon mounted outside. Has to be fired from outside the ship though, so we get a fairly cool scene of Mal in a spacesuit shooting at a Reaver ship.

Serenity is a transport ship, it has no weapons. In the TV series weapons in space tend to be big and expensive (mainly missles) and thus something that the crew cannot afford. And attaching missles to a transport ship could be hard. The style of the ship is all about fleeing and hiding.

First off, Hi! Welcome to the 'verse.

As for the idea of weapons being on Serenity (FYI, it's not "the Serenity"; Serenity is her name) if the crew could afford them, they'd have them. Also, staying and fighting, instead of running is bound to be a lot more expensive, what with repairs and all. They can barely afford to keep her in the air as it is.

Oh, and if someone gives you a hard time cause you're a noob (where'd that word come from, anyway?) let someone know. We'll take care of 'em.

yea i've been watching the series on dvd (man im glad i work at a rental store ;)) and it all definately makes sense now.

however, i don't see why people would get "upset" over it. I mean, does the thought of having the ship armed really tarnish Serenity (thanks for the FYI, Call, btw)?

Mal named her after the location of the final battle that he participated in during the war. So really "Serenity" isn't very serene at all. I understand the financial and tactical viepoints (ie fight or flight) but maybe i am still too new to comprehend even the most minute of even defensive weaponry could be a problem.

If they were allowed to. Which isn't too likely; after all, Serenity is owned by a former Independent who still wears his browncoat proudly. The only reason Mal survives in the cutthroat worlds of the 'verse is that the alliance seems both efficient and pretty even-handed in denying ship-mounted weapons capability to everybody except military and police craft.

(What you're supposed to do when you've got the reavers on your tail and no Alliance in sight is your own problem, but after all, it's a matter of homeland security, sacrifices must be made...)

Since when does the crew care what the Alliance allows? They're not supposed to have River and Simon on board, but they do.

I'm sure they could find a way to keep the weapons hidden from a casual inspection. And it's not as if they would have huge guns everywhere. Just something to slow down a Reaver ship or something.

Personally, I don't want to see Serenity with weapons. It would take away some of the danger. The crew is more or less helpless in the air/space. They have to run; there is no other option. Having the option to shoot down their enemies would make it less tense.

But mainly, fans just don't want anything to change. No one wants Serenity to be different. We all love her the way she is. Having seen the movie, there's really nothing to worry about, a few minor changes maybe, but Serenity is still the ship we all love.
