11THHOUR

There's a great opportunity coming up to help boost the awareness of Firefly and draw in new fans — The Sci-Fi Channel (U.S.) will be showing a Firefly Marathon this March 10th. The episodes will start with the pilot "Serenity" and continue in order to "Out of Gas". With all the rumblings these days about reviving Firefly as an HBO type series, or perhaps a network mini-series, this is an excellent opportunity to show that there's a sizable audience that wants to see Firefly on TV. Let's make the most of this!

To help spread the word, I've made four special editions of my guerilla marketing posters to promote the marathon. By all means make use of the posters/flyers! They're a great way to help get the word out. The regular size ones can be posted out in public places, and the "mini" posters are excellent handouts — great to leave for folks to pick up, or carry them with you to give out. Folks will remember the marathon date a lot better with a poster or flyer to remind them.

You can find the posters at my website:

Guerilla marketing DOES make a difference!

Anyone up for some guerilla marketing?

More great stuff 11th Hour. I will print some more off and post them, and I have to say I'm even more interested in the mini posters to be used as handouts... I'm gonna stack 'em all over my business and give them away with tickets.

Thank you for this!

Come on everyone- let's re-light Firefly. We can do this!

Great idea!

The mini posters are extremely handy and work in a way the regular size posters can't. They compliment each other — but I am a bit partial to the minis too.

They're very portable and the miniature poster look is often enticing to people. They're more apt to use them and keep them. Maybe to jot down a note on the back, or use one as a bookmark. The point is, they get kept quite often.

I always keep several with me in my purse. When I talk about Firefly/Serenity to new people, then give them a mini poster it really helps to make the conversation "sink in" and they remember.

Guerilla marketing does make a difference. Plus it is extremely fun and fulfilling to do. It's a whole different feeling to go from wanting Firefly to come back, to putting some real action behind it.

GREAT quote... and very appropriate to the thread.

Bless your heart.

The thing is that even if someone who is already a fan of Firefly didn't know that the marathon was coming up... then that means we got some work to do!

Sci-Fi may not advertise it much, or wait until it's almost here before they have ads. But ads can be missed. Anyway, Firefly has a time honored tradition of being promoted by the fans, it's part of the mythology now! We're the ones who keep it goin'.

The Firefly marathon is scheduled to start at 10 A.M. (EST) with "Serenity Part 1" and continue through to "Out of Gas" airing at 6 P.M as the final episode of the marathon.

Here's a link to Sci-Fi's online schedule for March 10th:

http://www.scifi.com/schedulebot/index.php3?date=10-MAR-2006&feed_req

Some cable and satellite companies provide different feeds to their customers. Even though I live on the west coast, I often get the east coast feed, so it's best to always double check the air times because sometimes there's a 3 hour difference!

As far as I know, FOX still had time left on their rights to broadcast Firefly. However, Universal was able to arrange a deal in order to broadcast Firefly on their Sci-Fi Channel network. I don't know how long the deal is good for, but we need to make the most of the times when Firefly is on the air. It's a great opportunity to bring in new fans and show that there's an audience that still wants very much to see Firefly.

Good ratings for this marathon will help so much in showing that Firefly is worth relighting!

"As long as I was able to service the characters with integrity and had enough money so that I wasn't hampered, then I would love to return Serenity to TV. I love that universe; it continues and those characters live on. There could be a series, there could be a miniseries, there could be all sorts of things. I'm not ruling anything out. I'll let it simmer for a while and see if anyone calls."

— Joss Whedon

Making the Firefly Marathon a success helps add fuel to the fire-fly. Since Joss is keeping the door open to return Firefly to television, let's do what we can to back that up.

Anyone up for some guerilla marketing?

Thanks very much for the kind words... and I'm so glad to hear that you'll be making use of the mini posters!

Firefly/Serenity has the coolest fans, with so much passion for the 'verse. The posters are there for the fans to use, ready to go so there's always handy tools available when we're channeling our passion to guerilla marketing.

Have a great time spreadin' the word to them as needs it told... guerilla marketing really is a blast.

Well, the marathon's over, and heck, I don't even have that channel over here, but I was just thinking of doing some guerrilla marketing myself.
-------------------------------------------
EDIT: Um, I'm really stupid. The marathon hasn't even aired yet, sorry! I lost track of the day, haha, I've been home sick. Sorry :P

Anyway, back to the post:
-------------------------------------------

Maybe we could turn something like this into a big global Browncoat project? (Although I'd be amazed if there isn't something like that already happening).

Where did you get the artwork for the posters? They look wonderful!

Yes, there's still time to promote this marathon! Even if you don't personally get the channel, there's most likely lots of folks in your community who do. So by all means, if you can do some guerilla marketing... have at it!

Each new fan who discovers Firefly adds to our numbers... and fans have a great reputation for spreadin' the word and bringing in new fans. We keep building our ranks this way.

There are Firefly/Serenity fans around the globe, which is awesome. But this particular Firefly marathon is only happening on the U.S. Sci-Fi Channel. So for this particular event, we only need to concentrate on the U.S.

But guerilla marketing itself IS international. There is a whole collection of "regular" posters which promote the Firefly and Serenity DVDs. We really need to keep the sales for these strong and growing... that's how to generate interest from studios to make more Firefly/Serenith. They listen to profits!

Thank you, glad you like them. The artwork and layouts were created by me.

Hope you feel better soon!

Heh, sorry for mish-mashing your words together, I just thought that whole section would be easier to reply to in a chunk, because it's related. I probably should have specified, and my apologies for not doing so, I don't live in the US, I live in Ireland Sorry, I should have mentioned that.
