I need to find a video of that monologue when the hologram describes what happened on Miranda. I was able to convince my group members that this should be our "great speech" that we do our school report on, and I need to show them the mood behind the speech, and tone of voice, everything about it. But I can't find a video of it. Can anyone help me out here? Thank you very much.

I can't really help you out on these computers, but I thought I'd bump for you.

Any reason why you couldn't just pop in the DVD and jump to that place? You could run it on your laptop maybe.

Unfortunately, I am ashamed to say I do not yet have the DVD. I am also in high school, so I would not be able to just show them anytime, I was planning on putting the video on my ipod and asking my teacher if I could show them the scene. But, after I sent her a transcript of that speech, she deemed it too short and unusable.

That's too bad. Sounds like she's trying to corral you into one of the traditional famous speeches, like "I have a dream" or "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall," or maybe Kennedy's speech about going to the moon.

You could always try to weird her out by going Mussolini or Hitler. Or you could play a comic stand-up routine. Bonus points if it's one that makes fun of the shortcomings of the educational system.

>_> Don't listen to my advice if you want to get a good grade.

You think you know--what's to come, what you are. You haven't even begun.

Eddie Izzard does a great bit about Kennedy's "Ich bin ein Berliner" speech (among others.) That would be sooo meta.

What reason had proved best ceased to look absurd to the eye, which shows how idle it is to think anything ridiculous except what is wrong.

There's always President Whitmore's speech from Independence Day, or the St. Crispin's Day speech from Henry V, but yeah, she's probably looking for a long, complicated verbal-essay (teachers always equate "longer" with "better" --I've seen 5 pages of semicoherent crap beat out a carefully-though-out, articulate 300-word response to a question), and long speeches just don't usually work in film, where time is at a premium.

We were stuck with one from a soldier who was in Iraq several years ago. I respect what's said in the speech, but I honestly don't find it interesting. Also, she did assign another group a speech by Hitler, so...

Maybe pretend he's Malcolm Reynolds or something. You can even mentally add the accent.

There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

If the Pax message is too short, they'd probably say the same about Mal's "I aim to misbehave" speech.

Did the teacher also object to the fact it is from a fictional movie, does it have to be historical? If not, how about Peter Finch's "I'm mad as hell" monologue from Network?

I told her it was from the BDM, she didn't mind that. But we were already assigned this speech, and I don't think she nor my group members would much appreciate another switch.
