For some reason, I got to thinking today about all the debating that we do in the RWED, and had a strange thought. Most of the political/religious arguing I do with my local people is over drinks and dinner. Which got me to thinking - If you could pick oh, say 5 RWED people to have a dinner conversation with, who would you pick, and perhaps why?

Don't you ever wonder if the impression you get of someone online is how they are in person? Or if the nuances of someone's arguing skills are better in a more personal setting (for example, I've heard Bush in person is far more persuasive and charming than he is as a public speaker)?

If I had to take my 5 or so, I think I'd go like this:

-Rue and SignyM, who I tend to agree with on most issues; I'd be curious to see what they are like in person
-Citizen, for sure, more or less the same reason, and we need a Brit at the table
-Hero and Finn, so that we can have some debate. Some of my arguments with Hero have been legendary; same goes with Finn

My short list of alts would probably be HKCav, AURaptor, and SergeantX.

Who would you bring to your table? Lurkers, I know some of you out there don't post a lot, but if you read a lot of these you must have an opinion. Post it.

Freedom is Important because People are Important

The only person I'm sure about is who would be on TOP of my list.

PirateNews.

I've got to know what he's like in person. I have to know whether he would sit next to me at TGIF's and tell me about the German-Jew-Queen of England and her plot to overthrow the US.

I agree. PirateNews, but just so I can have him arrested on bogus charges (I'm sure there are real charges out there...but I'd make some up just for him and just this one time.)

So lets do it, I know a good place for Mexican (you gets lots of it and it don't cost much...how's that for a ironic?)

Couldn't narrow it down to just 5, so here's 7:

Sevenpercent (gotta reciprocate the honor )
Rue
Signym
Finn
Chrisisall
Hero

and for entertainment:
PirateNews (I was thinking stand up, he'd get a soap box, we'd have a free comedy routine).

His rantings have given me this great idea for a good ol' fashioned British Sit-Com...

I don't know that many people in the RWED forum. (cause I usually stay out of it) so I can name only four: Chrisisall, Citizen,Finn and AuRaptor. Citizen through AuRaptor would be fun disscussions because of the debates we'd have. Chrisisall I mostly agree with so I go to him when I'm in need of an ego boost.

I'm not sure I'd wanna make a list, for fear I'd leave someone off. But I gotta say, this is my favorite place for interesting discussion. Every now and then I think that I should find a place that caters specifically to political debate, but it's always a disappointment. There's just something about the mix here, it's addictive.

Why do we keep coming back? Sure the show is what brought us here, and it's a worthy draw, but most us have long since said pretty much everything there is to say about its genius. There's something else, something about the broad range of perspectives from a diverse group of people who, for the most part, actually have something interesting to say. It's more rare than I care to admit. You guys rock!

Only five ??? !!! That ain't fair!

PS Where I work, I'm - at best - average. But when I want interesting, insightful, wide-ranging, engaging discussion, I come here.

To echo the sentiment, people here ROCK!

GEEZER

Keep the Shiny side up

Now what would be really fun would be to get all the RWED regulars together for a party...and require that no one give their screen name or any hints about who they are for the first couple of hours. Then have the big revelation. I bet we'd all be surprised. I'd just about be willing to travel somewhere central for that.

Geezer, that's an awesome idea.

However, I bet we'd guess one right off the bat. There's NO WAY HUMANLY POSSIBLE that PNews could last more than 5 minutes without screaming that someone was an Alien-Jew-Hooker.

You'd be able to spot him even if he didn't. He'd he the one sitting in the corner giving everyone furtive glances and nervously stoking an anti-jew good luck charm.

You're welcome on my boat. God ain't.

Hmm, us Brits will have to brush up on our american accents so that we don't stand out...

But in all seriousness, as fun as this idea sounds, don't defer anything on my account - if I couldn't bring myself to attend the Leeds shindig I don't think I'd fly out to NYC.

Ok, my RWED selection (not been here long, and am not quite regular, but thought i'd contribute):

Fletch: Really enjoyed his analogy of the situation in Iraq as a hostage-negotiation/swat-team/ action-thriller story. I want all current affairs explained to me like this.

Citizen & AURaptor: I just sense that these two have a great chemistry, after reading their exchange on the 'we're going to nuke iran!' thread. Both have the ability to make me laugh.

Chrisisall: Would be an excellent MC, keeping the topics coming thick and fast. Also want to find out if he ends all his speeches by saying his name and a suitable adjective.

Bitterbierce: Not exactly RWED, but still worth an invite. Put him in the right company and I think he would be extremely entertaining.

Wiccans: A few wiccans should be in the mix, say 4 or 5 - enough to give them a strong numerical advantage over Bitterbierce.

I really like Geezer's idea, it'd be a hoot and a half.

As for five? I couldn't narrow it down to just five, so I'll just say "All the ususal suspects, past and present". Everybody's so unique here, and all have their own particular and interesting points of view...

*smiles at the thought of himself, Citizen and Finn talkin' martial arts on the side*

Chrisisall up for it

I vote for Chicago, preferably a place near the waterfront park that serves beer and whiskey. I'll pay for the first round (drinks, NOT ammo!)

But choosing five? Only five??? Oh, I dunno.... I don't think it can be done! However the choice, you'd have to find approximately numerical equivalances on both sides of many issues to keep the fun going...

Does anyone here remember Wulfhawk?

Just a question:
If it's at a drinking establishment, should we take up a collection in advance to pay for damages due to the inevitable drunken barfight?
