Even the Republicans weren't going to vote for Bolton, which is why Bush used a recess appointment to get him in.

So his best achievement in your mind was to circumvent checks and balances? He has done a lot for the hopes of American Dictators, I do give you that.

You people are, for the most part, self righteous, deluded, stoned, morons. Bush was supposed to stop Katrina? MY ASS! The idiots were supposed to get out of the way of a freakin hurricane!! It's a hurricane people...move your sorry butts..oh no I see your just gonna sit there and then bitch when your tax-payer funded housing is knee deep in pooh. Liberals have created this welfare state that has done IMnot soHO irrevocable damage to the black community. Trust me I see it every day. I know a 19 year old boy with 4 kids by 3 different girls and one bouncing bundle of joy on the way. But ya can't tell him he's an irresponsible dolt because that's insensitive and judgemental and to a liberal being judgemental is the ultimate sin.
Somebody said this is the most reactionary administration. Yeah like that great liberal Roosevelt who sat on his hands while Hitler swallowed Poland, Austria...all the while Churchill (who, by the way, had been warning his country about the Nazis for 20 years) was asking for help, until the Japanese sank our Pacific fleet. Yeah that's not reactionary. Roosevelt didn't have the balls to take action without public support. I don't even no where to start with you goobers. Put down the bong and read a history book. There are jobs in this country for anybody that wants one but we have too many lazy bumbs that want to sit on the side line and preach inaction and big hugs for uneducated thugs who have demonstrated pretty effectively that they want to cut the heads off Jews, Christians, Atheists, Hindus, Quakers and few bunny rabbits just for good measure. I vote for killing them. Not because it will make them love us (they're not going to) but because it will make our enemies fear us. If you are a violent hatemonger, fear the United States. If you are peaceful you have nothing to fear from the United States, Canada or the UK. An English Lord addressed the House of Commons once and said (and I paraphrase) "We have no eternal allies. We have no perpetual enemies. But the interests of Great Britain are both perpetual and eternal." Americans have great allies. But we must place our interests above all else and take action to secure those interests. Ifear this rant will be lost like pearls before swine. But there you are.

Also if you were talking about America, where "most of the people wanted to join in on the side of the Nazis or stay the hell out" which America are you talking about?!?
The one that prior to the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbour had both a huge isolationist and a huge pro-Nazi movement, but not so much with the "let's help our struggling allies" movement. Therefore if the government had gone to war before the change of public opinion that would have been undemocratic (remembering that America still didn't declare war on Germany, Germany declared war on America ).

Why which America are you talking about?

I started this thread as a serious analysis of what good the Bush administration has done, and after two hours, my first poster was making sport of Bush. I then decided to just goof and have fun with it, because, in all seriousness, no case CAN be made for any real good to come specifically out of the present administration other than "I got a check" or "Things would have been worse under Kerry" or "We got Saddam" or "The economy is better"; it's all crap. Tired, fear-based garbage.
We are fighting a war doomed to limited success at best. We still let the CIA do black bag ops like the nonsense going on in Africa right NOW. Civil rights are a joke in as far as the administration can do as they please and call it what they like.
The children of this nation and others will pay the real price, and mindless security-addicts like yourself need to either not see it, or condone it as National Interest, and I cannot hold with that.

And in the spirit of this thread (I hope!) I just HAD to post this!

Flag Burning and Other Dubious Epidemics
Austin, Texas - Thank goodness the Republicans are around to tell me what to worry about. The flag-burning crisis - here in Austin, there's that pall of smoke rising from the west every morning (it's from an area called Tarrytown, where they burn hundreds of flags daily).

You didn't know hundreds of flags were being burned daily? Actually, you can count on your hand the number of incidents reported over the last five years. For instance, there was one flag burned in 2005 by a drunken teenager and one by a protester in California in 2002. This appalling record of ravishment must be stopped. You're clearly not worried about what matters.

Gay marriage, now there's a crisis. Well, OK, so there isn't much gay marriage going on here in Texas. None, in fact. First, we made it illegal. Then, we made it unconstitutional. But President Bush is all concerned about it, so I guess we have to alter the U.S. Constitution.

Gus and Captain Call (of "Lonesome Dove" fame) will be an item - with who knows who waiting in line right after them.

Also of great concern to Republicans is God Almighty, who, rather to my surprise, has been elected chairman of the Texas Republican Party. That's what they announced at the biannual convention in Fort Worth this week: "He is the chairman of the party." Sheesh, the Democrats couldn't even get Superman.

Also weighing down the nation with a heavy burden is the estate tax, which the Senate will try to repeal this week. The estate tax applies to around 1% of Americans, and I have yet to find any record of it costing anyone a family farm or business. It affects only very, very, very rich people, of whom you are probably not one. And they don't, actually, need another tax break.

These are the things we are supposed to be worrying about, and you notice that it frees us of quite a few troubles we might otherwise fret about.

The war in Iraq? No sweat.

War with Iran? We're carefree.

The economy? Hey, did you see that employment report? Well, ignore it.

Budget out of control, shipwreck ahead? Never mind - Bush doesn't. Worst class divisions since the Gilded Age, rich so much more enormously richer than everybody else, country starting to get creepy? Don't worry, be happy. Torture, massacre, extraordinary rendition, hidden gulag of prisons in foreign countries, Guantanamo and massive violations of international law, American law and the Constitution? Well, you can see why gay marriage is a far greater menace.

Wipe out for the environment; hundreds of regulations and laws changed to favor those who exploit and damage natural resources; all so common no one is keeping track of them all? Let her rip.

Global warming? In the first place, it's Al Gore's issue. In the second place, it's a downer. In the third place, who cares if it's too late in a few years?

Homeland security/war on terror? With the highly excellent disposition of anti-terror funds once more judiciously applied by the Department of Homeland Security, we truly have nothing to worry about. We're ready to stop terrorist attacks in Wyoming, and there are no important cultural sites in New York City, so let's rock.

Oil crisis? Ha! What oil crisis? You want a $100 rebate you can then give the oil companies? Hey, we're going to drill in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, and that should see us through ... oh, about nine months.

Windfall profits? You think the oil companies are ripping us off for windfall profits? Who? Exxon Mobil? Why, they would never!

I believe what we have here is a difference over moral values.

The Republicans are worried about the flag, gay marriage and the terrible burden of the estate tax on the rich. The rest of us are obviously unnecessarily worried about war, peace, the economy, the environment and civilization. Another reason to vote Republican - they have a shorter list.

You know ChrisIsAll,

That post about Jesus v Superman got me to thinking.

Jesus' miracles were homey - turning water into wine, multiplying loaves and fishes, healing and driving out demons, raising from the dead. In that culture, Roman rulers had been said to have had those powers for several centuries.

Time travel and turning back time weren't even concepts until the last couple of hundred years, as far as I know. You'd think that if Jesus really was all knowing, he'd have performed a more sophisticated, multi-cultural, multi-temporal suite of wonders. As it is, his works come across as provincial.

Waiting for the thunderbolt.

Aw c'mon. Jesus was a homey kind of guy. And besides, if he had done the time travel thing it wouldn't have been understood by the locals- not even Judas. You know, it's like how the religious literalists paper over Biblical inconsistencies- God only reveals you what you can understand at the time. Enlightenment is on a "need to know" basis!

I realize your response is tongue-in-cheek and so you're not looking for a serious reply.

But this is still bugging me. When you think about it, if he wanted to leave a message to the next few hundred generations, he could have done something not quite explicable to the natives at the time, but completely awesome to the future. As he was all-knowing, what to do would have been easy to figure out.

As it is, his miracles seem shabby, dusty, and provincial.

De-lurking to stir stuff up.

The ad hominem attack against the English not withstanding (BTW as you say past in the past... how's the CURRENT American imperialistic kick going? Oh no wait you're spreading the light of democracy to the 'pagans' ) this has nothing to do with the topic of what I was talking about (which I recognise had nothing to do with original topic of this thread, but I didn't start off down that road...)

I replied to an accusation that FDR was too weak to fight the Nazis and that the great strong George Bush would have done a better job. I just merely replied to the anti-liberal hate-filled extremist right-wing rant with the fact that in order to go to war with Germany FDR would have had to act like a Dictator, a Nazi if you will, not the democratically elected leader of a democratic nation, will of the people and all that. Also given the right’s ‘obvious’ love of civil freedoms (ho ho ho, that one get’s me every time) it was rather ‘surprising’ to hear a right-winger desire a dictatorship over democracy. Though I suppose, trying to see it from their point of view, if you’re the dictator a dictatorship is just gravy, is not?

Then I had someone who seems to be confused as to their 'Leo-nicity' fall out their pram at me because in their fantasy world the American people wanted a war with Germany and the government was holding them back because the government was too weak, something that's is flagrantly, and lets be fair here, utter and complete crap.

I'm sorry if pointing out that during the 1930's the Republican party had a fairly obvious Nazi connection upsets you to the point you need to bring my ancestry in too question, but frankly it's a fact, as is Britain’s Imperialist past and frankly you bringing it up doesn't bother me one little bit .

Now for all the bad things you can say about Britain we've always stood up for our mates; which is how we got dragged into both World Wars. By comparison the States, erm hasn't. You got 'dragged' into the same conflicts by being attacked, because the prevailing opinion of the populace was that those wars were your allies 'problem' . Personally I think standing by your friends is a redeeming quality, maybe you have a different view?

Disclaimer:
Much of what I just said is a little tongue in cheek, also a bit of a rebuke to the ad hominem on my country of origin, thought I'd better point that out in case you decided to spit the dummy like amIaLion.

Just so I know are we talking about:
George W. Bush
Saddam Hussein
Mahmoud Ahmadinejad
Or someone else? My money's on Saddam, since the whole telling the UN where to go thing was why Iraq was invaded in the first place, wasn't it? Or maybe it was the Oil, or maybe it was a distraction for something, who knows, do you know?

What paradox is that? Perhaps something along the lines of "Muslim extremists will still kill you no matter how nice you are to them"?

Great try except of course the current crop of Muslim extremism is largely a backlash to years of right-wing policies...

Also since when did being a Liberal mean one can not defend oneself?

A favourite accusation of the right "you don't want to go around killing everyone so you're a coward!!" Because the right-wing plan of attacking people weaker than themselves is real brave.

German American Bund was made up of ethnic Germans, it's a wonder why they would be so ethnocentric during a time like the Great Depression.
The Order of 76, Silver Shirts and the German American Bund are all overrated as far as their influence goes unless you believe fervently like you do in such noble causes such as fascism and anti-semitism. Next you are probably going to tell me that the Holocaust never happened. Do yourself a favor and visit the Holocaust museum here in D.C. Although it probably make neo-nazis like yourself squeamish. Don't bother replying, I won't be reading any more of your propaganda. Have a nice day.

Congratulations! You are king of not being able to make a cogent argument and spouting bullshit .

A right winger accusing someone else of being evil because they can't come up with a cogent argument? Whatever next? Business as usual I guess.

A Nazi and a Liberal? Sounds a little far fetched, Nazi’s being right wing fascist extreme conservatives and all…

Mate all you had to do is say I'm right and you are wrong, you didn't need to attempt (fairly pathetically) to insult me. Nice to see you didn't answer any of my points, just called me a Nazi because my views are so demonstratably convergent from those of Nazis.

Go Vote Republican, the party that has historically shown itself to like Nazis, because it'll work with your pro-white supremacist mind set .
Don't bother replying, I won't be reading any more of your propaganda. Have a nice day.
Is a nice way of saying "I can't continue this discussion, I'm too stupid to converse with you on an equal level, back to the neo-Nazi websites for old amIadicklion."

Amialion,

your attempt at objectively showing some good things the president has done is appreciated,

but I'd watch the McCarthyite suggestion that knowing about something equates you to that thing. It's a bad way to frame things when you equate information with association -- you know, that whole chilling effect on learning history and looking at opposing ideas?

"We found out you subscribe to a socialist paper. When did you become a communist?"

not that your comment in itself carries such weight, but I wonder if this angle has occured to you.

I was not trying to bother you in the least. I was merely trying to illustrate a point. It's good to see you can still carry on a reasonable discussion with someone without getting too personal. Oh and please try not to use that be all and end all argument of "well he started it".

BTW, careful when refering to attacks on ancestry, there could be descendents of the American Bund lurking about who wish people would just forget about their families questionable past.

I couldn't agree more. Must be the British blood that flows through my Canadian veins.

Thanks for the response. You managed to post without invoking the NAFTACAFTASHASTA or jew commie pirate... argument. And once again, people can disagree with you, it is their right. It is also their right not to be labled a "dummy" if that is the case.

It was a joke, a fact I thought would be plainly obvious by the fact I actually told you it was.

Do me a favour; I'm the one in the wrong because I responded to personal insults by saying the exact same thing back, but the person who said them's okay, why's that?

Frankly if someone starts in on me with insults I'll reply. I didn't insult you so why the sermon? Why aren't you giving certain other posters here a telling off? Do you condone their comments?

I disagreed with someone and was called a Nazi right here in this thread because I dared to disagree. Someone you seem to be defending here (I'm struggling to find another justification for the "It's good to see you can still carry on a reasonable discussion with someone without getting too personal." line beyond sarcasm in that direction).

I didn't label anyone anything, I said someone SPAT the dummy, not that they were a dummy, because they lost their temper when I disagreed with them.

What more do you want from me, I outright said I was joking in my post when I replied to you, do you actually want me to open a vein or do you prefer speaking from a position of outraged moral high ground?

SASSALICIOUS

Regarding Katrina, National Geographic predicted the outcome a year before it actually happened. Therefore, it was known that it could occur.

I read an interview with this guy in the Navy. He said the big navy ship was in the Gulf, waiting to go in. All the President would have had to say was "Go". And he was incapable of doing that.

Though maybe, just maybe we could deal with the shit happening in our country if the NATIONAL GUARD wasn't in Iraq. National=U.S.=NOT Iraq.

Wow, that is upsetting. I wonder why Bush did not give the order? Maybe there were some jurisdictional conflicts or gross miscommunications. Do you possibly remember where you read the interview? Or even better, could you supply a link so my lazy ass won't have to look it up.
