...And I may be one of em. Check out what I got in the mail today:

"Dear Veteran:

The Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) has recently learned that an employee took home electronic data from the VA, which he was not authorized to do and was in violation of established policies. The employee's home was burglarized and this data was stolen. The data contained identifying information including names, social security numbers, and dates of birth for up to 26.5 million veterans and some spouses, as well as some disability ratings..."

Yeah, there's more, but too much to type. I remembered hearing about it on the news, but it didn't really register untill they sent me this. I can't beleive this crap, man. I am so far beyond wanting someone to be punished for this... this SHIT is pure example of how the federal fucking government fucks over it's citizens. If I end up losing all the money in my bank account over this, you think I'm gonna get it back? Fuck no, and there's 26.5 million of my bretheren who wouldn't, either. Seems like no matter how fucking much you give this country, there always happy to take a little more without compensating you.

Word to the wise: Keep as much information out of the system as possible. It's a big clumsy machine that never works right.

Stand up and you'll win, surrender and you'll lose, it's heads or tails, you have to choose.

Heads or tails, which way will you choose? Die or live, surrender or fight? Wild and free, together we'll stand, strong and proud, we will claim our right.

There's your problem right there. Not the Federal Fucking government, just one fucking idiot who thought the rules put in place to protect your data didn't apply to him. No matter what kind of system controls and personnel policies you create to secure data, it all comes down to people obeying the rules, or not.

Not sure about the VA's program, but in the Federal agency where I worked, we got about 10 hours of UNAX (unlawful access) training a year, including a list of the penalties for each and every type of violation. Sure kept me straight, but there's always some dumbass who either forgets or ignores the rules.

BTW: I'm waiting for my letter from the VA too.

If it makes you feel better, the bastards also got all the information on those of us on Active Duty. AKO has had a little notice about it up for a week - they just took us an extra month to tell us that our data was also compromised.

I'm not convinced this was some truly inept and negligent (he should go to jail, in my opinion, for this) employee - it sounds rather shady, from what little info has been told to the press. I think it might have been sold. And I'm not breathing easy at the "thieves have already wiped it" theory.

And this is something that could pop up forty years down the road and screw us.

Uncle Scam

Yeah, I got my letter from the VA today. Which is creepy, since I never told the VA where I live, and I moved 5 times since leaving USAF. The criminal employee was not arrested, not fired, and was allowed to resign, probably with a fat pension.

The VA letter says to contact Equifax, Transunion and Eperian, those nice folks who do credit checks for $75 each, with each credit check actually lowering the ranking of your credit rating. Maybe THEY stole that laptop, to increase sales?

VA stole my wife's retirement pension, as perped against 95% of all disabled retired vets. VA does not allow medical treatment for any veterans for Gulf War Sabotaged Vaccine and Radioactive Depleted Uranium Syndrome. VA employee 7,000 trial lawyers to steal as many disability pensions as possible, and to Jew-down the rest to $100/month, which nobody can afford to live on. 500,000 Gulf War vets are now paid disability from the VA.

Millions of US college students got their identities stolen as well, when their Canadian contractor got burgled last month. Coincidence?

Many folks allege this is done on purpose, to herd the sheeple into volunteering for National ID Cards, subdermal ID microchips, and Amerodollar Cash Cards to track and tax all sales.

That's why Social Security Numbers are not allowed to be used for ID, but the sheeple don't know that, and Gangsta Govt and fascist corporations coerce them to sign contracts with SS# as ID. I never list my SS# anymore, but theft of my veterans records bypassed my privacy.
