Hey Everyone,

First off, I am sorry for posting this in this area, but I was not sure where I could post it. But I know a lot of us have big hearts and would probably be willing to assist in this.

Some of you know what I do for work. Some of you do not. I am a DSP/BS1 working with adults/children with MR, Autism and other disabilities.

I have a client who is in a power chair. And his family desperately needs money to purchase a new Van, and have it converted to handle a Power Lift.

I have been contacting all of my local area businesses and handing out cards and flyers to assist in this endeavor.

They are a very religious and well kept family, and it pains me to see them struggling so hard to make ends meet and always trying to reach this goal. The family has not been able to attend any events, or even go in public as a family for years. And this van will allow them to do so.

If any of you can, please take a moment to view the website that was designed and donated to them. And if you can, please pass on the link or information to any one or any business you think might be able to assist them.
I feel shame in asking anyone who is religious to check with their local groups to seek assistance, since God and I don’t see eye to eye anymore, but I want to do everything I can to help my client. And perhaps some of you may have some resources you can check into that I may not have.

I will visit the website. Pardon me for being skeptical but there are a lot of people out there who scam over the inet so I want to check this out first. In the meantime, have you tried http://brain.hastypastry.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=109 ?

The webforums are down for the moment, but this site gets millions of hits a year. The TOS are such that you cannot advertize (or I assume ask for funds) using their website, many people post links to personal stories there.

I completely understand being skepticle. The world has alot of bad people in it.

But I assure you, this is legitimate. The bank address handling everything is listed on the page as well.
If you could actually meet my client, you would cry. He is the most caring kid I have ever met, and his goals are so simple because of his condition that it is so hard not to feel so bad for him.

Most children his age are looking forward to High School and beyond. And he knows that he has limitations, and he takes one issue on at a time.

Actually, his only goal right now is that he wants to go to a Red Sox game, since he has never been to one before. (Never been to any game actually)

I will check out the page you listed. Thank you very much.

I'm with you on this one. The reason why I know about the MGH neurowebforums is because my daughter is significantly learning disabled. Good luck.

Good luck. My wife was a social worker who worked with MH/MR clients. She was the best, and their favorite, but it took a lot out of her. You have my sympathies and encouragement. I'll pass this on to whomever I can.

Do you mind if I ask what diagnosis she has and what you tried to help her?

I used to work for LeapFrog Toys, and I have yet to find a company that makes better educational products that can meet any childs needs.

Excellent technology for positive and educational interactions, setup through programs that are tailored to each childs needs with built in microchips to help them continue challenging themselves and getting better. :) (sorry about my spelling.. its been a long day)

And yes it takes alot out of me. But, as long as I balance myself I hope I dont crash and burn.

Grade IV brain bleed at birth r. hemisphere. Many diagnoses: seizure disorder, ADHD, non-verbal learning disability, borderline MR, plus a rare dx I'd rather not share because it's too unique and identifying. Been evaluated for epilepsy surgery (not a candidate) and thru a dozen meds and the keto diet until we found a med that worked. Best program we found so far is Visualizing and Verbalising and various forms of OT to help with mapping/ getting lost problem. It's been a long haul, but this year she attended the Sadie Hawkins dance and the prom, invited her boyfriend out to the movies (first time ever!), and passed the English High School exit requirements w/o modification. If I sounds like I'm bragging it's because I am.

Still a long way to go. Kids- ya gotta love 'em!

Local news channel doing a story on him.

I have contacted as many agencies as I can. Since I have started helping them, the hits on his website have doubled in the last few days. I am hoping the hits turn into donations at some point. But I am happy getting the word out. :)
