Once again the hate-filled, redneck, bigotry and moral ambiguity of some my fellow Texans rears it’s ugly head. The reprehensible political strategy of Karl Roves Grand Ole Party and one of the most incredibly slanderous television advertisements to come along since the Swift Boat attack ads of the last presidential campaign do indeed have strong connection to a morally bankrupt ditto head here in my home state.

I’m talking, of course, of the ad that ran (and may be still running), in Tennessee that suggested a flirtation between a young, bare shouldered white woman, played by an actress, and Rep. Harold Ford in that states senate race. That this ad is racially motivated is beyond doubt, and only perpetuates the stigma of racial hatred in the south.

The producer of this filth is Dallas based Scott Howell, whose close relationship with Rove is evidence of an all too familiar GOP win at all cost, truth be damned, approach to politics.

Howell, who helped produce a 2004 ad for Bush that showed a coffin coming out of the World Trade Center wreckage, (and was criticized by September 11 widows), was later credited with changing the subject of the campaign from economic problems to the president’s national security credentials, was also a top member of the media team working for Saxby Chambliss, the Republican whose ad in the 2002 Senate race accused Max Cleland, a triple-amputee Viet-Nam veteran, of being weak on national security by blending an image of his face with that of Osama Bin Laden.

Howell once worked for Rove’s direct mail firm in Texas and was hired by Terry Nelson, who was political director of the Bush-Cheney campaign of ’04, who in turn was hired by Ken Mehlman, chairman of the Republican National Committee, to oversee the so-called independent expenditure operations.

Hopefully, the voters of Tennessee will see this ad for what it is, a slanderous, racially motivated attack on Mr. Ford, and reject the party that would allow such low tactics in hopes of gaining a place of representation for the citizens of that state.

Thanks to Scott Howell, Karl Rove, Ken Mehlman, et al, I now have one more reason to hang my head in shame for living in Texas. Maybe it’s time to move on.

After posting the above, I found this story on Huffington Post regarding Terry Nelson. I was a little surprised that Wal Mart would try to take the moral high ground by firing Nelson, but maybe someone in that company does at least have the common sense to realize the heinous nature of this man's work.


Huffington Post has learned that Terry Nelson, a second producer of the racist Corker ad and a consultant to Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) and Wal-Mart, is to be fired by Wal-Mart for his role in producing the ad.

These ads are the product of sheer, frantic desperation. They have the air of unruly kids trying very hard to delay their parents from coming home and taking them to task for making a horrendous mess of the house while they were out. I'm just afraid that once again, against all odds, the Democrats will find some way to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory (helped along by Diebold, of course). The only poll that matters is the one on 11/07.

I have a vote and I'm not afraid to use it!


Unfortunately Karl Rove said that while there a 'four or five' publicly available polls that indicate a Democratic victory, he looks at '70 or 80 polls a week' that show no such thing. He's suspiciously confident.

I believe in solving problems, not sharing them.


Except for the fact that the Presidential exit polls accidentally appeared "uncorrected" (and were captured by a statistician ) we would never know how badly the results have been manipulated. How can we be assured THIS time that the exit polls will appear uncorrupted?
