GEEZER

Keep the Shiny side up

So, do I just want to win at any cost, or put forward a platform I actually believe in?

Hmm. Just to start...

Decriminalize drugs, and move the money currently spent on interdiction to treatment.

Legalize any form of marriage between consenting adults, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, number, or whatever. Adjust laws of inheritance to conform with this.

Every individual is taxed on their own income, not as part of a married unit. Dependents can be claimed if they have no income. Corporate profits go into tax-free accounts for five(?) years, after which time they must be re-invested in capital improvements, or they must be disbursed to corporate shareholders and taxed as part of their income.

Limit the franchise to individuals who have performed a voluntary term of government service, not necessarily military.

Seal the borders and prevent illegal immigration. Declare amnesty for any illegals currently in the country who can pass an English language fluency test, have a clean criminal record, will swear allegience to the US, and can pay a $500.00(?) fee. Use the same criteria for accepting legal immigrants.

Within 5 years, turn over the FAA air traffic control system to the airlines for them to finance and run.

My platform would probably be square-ish with wooden studs and maybe some of that red, white and blue frill around the edges. And I don’t think I would sell it, because then I wouldn’t have a platform to put my podium on.

Interesting Geezer, a few questions...
"Corporate profits go into tax-free accounts for five(?) years, after which time they must be re-invested in capital improvements, or they must be disbursed to corporate shareholders and taxed as part of their income." Why capital improvements? Why can't the money be used to, say, hire new employees or other non-capital projects? Or is the key here, 're-invest or disperse to shareholders'?

Why five years? Why can’t corporate profits be used for capital investment or personnel immediately?

Here’s an idea, we need to get rid of employer health insurance – put the responsibility on the individual and deregulate the market.

Also we need tax reform – a flat tax or get rid of income tax all together and replace it with a national sales tax.

SERGEANTX

I would decriminalize health care, drugs, sex, alternative lifestyles and families, and a large bulk of victimless crimes. I'd eliminate the IRS, the FDA, the Department of Homeland Security, the Department of Labor, Department of Health, Education and Welfare, and in general any federal government meddling in affairs that don't directly relate to their constitutional specified responsibilities (and no, the general welfare clause is not a blank check for limitless government expansion).

I'd redefine the role of the United States globally. We'd no longer accept the role of World Police, and we'd no longer operate as hired thugs for global corporate interests. We wouldn't be going to bat for them when their offshore 'interests' are impinged upon by foreign governments. If they want that kind of security they can stay in the US and hire Americans.

I'd stop government meddling in the economy. I'd resist all efforts by special interests to eliminate risk at the expense of taxpayers (all the various forms of 'bailouts'). I'd radically alter banking and investment regulations and tax policies that encourage debt.

I'd push for a constitutional amendment outlawing the practices of state and local governments that grant preferential treatment to corporations regardless of the reason. In other words, I'd outlaw tax abatements and other incentives that government hands out to large companies that promise to 'grow the tax base', or whatever bullshit excuses they use.

Re-invest or disburse is the key. That way, corporate taxes are either spent, letting someone else make money, or become taxble income to individuals.

Finn, five years was just a figure pulled from the air, hence the (?) after it. I'd have to do research (more work than I am willing to do for a pie-in-the-sky subject) to get a correct time period.

Also Finn, it's meant more as a 'no longer than 5 years'; immediate use would be encouraged. (At least, this is what I'm taking away from his comments)

Ahh, yeah. That could have been more clear. I should have said 'Decriminalize alternative lifestyles and alternative families' a general reference to the gay marriage issue, but also including matriarchies, polygamy or whatever else people might dream up. The best approach would be to do as Geezer suggested and drop the current legal perks associated with marriage. Level the playing field and remove the current 'stamp of approval' that goes with traditional marriage (tax breaks mostly).

My stump speech would be something like this:

"My fellow Americans...Liberals provide a great base for new Democrats. After a Liberal has been cut and felled in the general election, the Democrat is usually a small remaining portion of the trunk with the roots still in the ground.

Liberal Democrats, much like Al Gore, may show the age defining rings of a tree. The study of these is known as dendochronology or wackjobanalysis in its original latin.

Some Liberals (both those on the ground and removed branches) are sometimes able to regenerate into new Democrats. Often, a Liberal wackjob that has been cut will re-sprout in multiple places around the edge of the stump or from the roots, a fact aptly demonstrated by John Edwards' $400 haircuts or the election of Howard Dean as DNC chairman. Depending on whether the Liberal is being removed permanently or whether the party is expected to recover, this can be either desirable or undesirable, although in the case of Howard Dean...it is very undesirable. Liberal sprouts can grow very quickly and sometimes become viable leaders themselves either for aesthetics or substantive thinkers, due to the existing root structure; however, the cut portion of the party may weaken the sprouts and introduce disease into the newly forming party leaders such as Barrack Obama, who is a great example of an attractive candidate with little to offer beyond the surface.

The process of deliberately cutting Liberals to regenerate into smaller leaders is known as a general election.

Liberal Democrats, like Clintons, can be very difficult to remove from the ground. However, they can be dug out, shredded with a stump grinder, or cut away with special chemicals or prosectutors."

I would definitley respond to Calderons' speech: NEW YORK (CNN) -- Mexican President Felipe Calderon Sunday demanded the United States surrender its sovereignty, abandon the rule of law and accede to Mexico's inherent supremacy.
Quote:

Lou Dobbs says Mexican President Felipe Calderon is showing "blatant hypocrisy" on immigration.

In his state of the union address to the Mexican nation, Calderon established his imperialistic imperatives: "I have said that Mexico does not stop at its border, that wherever there is a Mexican, there is Mexico. And, for this reason, the government action on behalf of our countrymen is guided by principles, for the defense and protection of their rights." Calderon protested the U.S. government's increased raids on illegal employers of illegal alien employees and work site enforcement. In what is little more than a faint nod to the Bush administration's responsibility to enforce U.S. immigration law, the Department of Homeland Security had planned to send out notices to employers from the Social Security Administration informing them of non-matching records between an employee's name and Social Security number. These employers would then be forced to resolve any discrepancy within 90 days or be required to dismiss the employee or face up to $10,000 in fines for knowingly hiring illegal immigrants.
