Given what we have already spent on this lunacy, something occured to me, inspired via a statement by Jongstraw.

Now, let's leave aside that we've seen no actual evidence linking OBL to 9-11, and that all that we have seen, seems to point to the saudis...

And we'll just go ahead and assume for the tiny world of this one thread that he did do it.

Now, we couldn't use Bush for this, cause his public speaking skills are abysmal, but I'm sure there's some talking heads in the cabinet still who are fine orators, especially when someone else is writing the speech in the first place.

After 9-11, put on of them on TV and offer THIS speech, standing on the ruins of the twin towers, which is admittely semi-inspired by the movie Ransom.

"While we can never forget the tragedy that occurred here, it is our intent to ensure that it never happens again on our home soil, and so, to effect that intent, we, the US Government, are offering one Billion dollars in cash, free of all dues and taxes, to the person or persons who bring us the actual head of Osama Bin Laden - it need not remain attached, but it must be in one piece with recognizeable features, and delivered to the state department or nearest US Embassy in order to recieve this reward.

You may think you have hurt us, Mister Bin Laden, but all you have done is commit suicide, we americans live our freedom, will fight for it, and die for it, but we will never surrender it, not from fear, and not from force, and all you have done is unified our resolve to remove you and your murderous goons from the planet so that the lives of free americans can go on unhindered and unconcerned by your petty little antics.

No country in the world will shelter you, no mountain is high enough, no hole is deep enough, for you to ever escape save into whatever afterlife you believe in, and we will gladly hasten you on your way to be rid of you, and may you meet justice there as you will meet it here.

So make your peace with your maker, Mister Bin Laden, because we feel that you will meeting him quite soon."

You know, that would have been a hell of a lot cheaper, and simpler, than this current round of idiocy... which seems to be a welfare subsidy program for the Mil-Industry complex than anything else.

Hell, for what we've already sunk into this, if we wanted Saddam out we could have bought his whole damn army lock stock and gun barrel and turned them against him, and goddamn, even good assassions are comparatively cheap versus an armored divisions field cost.

So venture your ideas on better cost efficiency, without moral reservations, how could we have saved a buck here ?

I note for the record the OBL is a Saudi. And there is no evidence...except his confession, the confessions of his top aides (I'm talking about before they were captured and convinced to reveal everything). Then there is the links to the Al Queda orginization, which OBL is the head of, the money, the traing, the logistical supports to the fellas on the ground...well in the air as it were. There's that nice video of OBL meeting with a couple of the boys before they left for their mission and so on. And that's just the stuff they've told us.

I'm not saying your wrong. A billion dollar reward is a lot of money. Personally I think its too high and would serve to elevate Bin Ladden to mythical proportions. And it would say "America is all about money", we have no guts for real conflict.

And what if you get no takers? We offer the most ever and they reject the premise outright.

Then there's the chance we're stuck paying a billion dollars to some other terrorist who will turn around to use it against us or to somebody like the Taliban who will use it to prop up their brutal regime (and perhaps use other terrorist to strike us, then collect the money for them too). I think your plan had possible merit, but the downside is too much, which is why it was probably considered and rejected by those elected to make the decisions.

Why not drop nukes on Afganistan instead? That'd have saved some money, sent a similar message, and probably accomplished the same purpose as your "Ransom" demand.

Sometimes there is no substitute for boots on the ground and the cost history requires us to pay is not always measured in dollars.

Buying someone's life really does send the message that we're corrupt. In any case, the invasion of Iraq- which has cost almost $750B so fr- was never about terrorism. It was about oil.

I think if we REALLY want to fuck up radical Islam's plans, our best bet would be to simply stop buying Mideast oil. Cut off the USD pipeline, let them get mad at China instead.

I find myself agreeing with *choke*...

*gasp*

...Hero here to a large degree....

*ahem*(except the 'nuke Afghanistan' part)

I've always liked the idea of special ops taking him and his buddies out. IMF sorta deal.

Interesting thought: We offer a billion dollars, OBL himself comes over and claims the reward handing it off to his lieutenants.

I've always liked the idea of some folks like those guys on 'The Unit' dragging his ass back here kicking and screaming for a little aggressive questioning, trial, and execution.

With a nice little 'leaked' video of him on his knees and begging for his life. There'd be something so...right...so...American...about seeing a man who sends others off on suicide missions, revealed as a coward and his cause revealed as a lie. Then we put the bullet in his brain, mutter a humorous or ironic catch phrase, saddle up the horse, and ride off into the sunset.

I think someone took a few ideas, put them in a bowl, whipped them briskly with a fork like for scrambled eggs, then poured them into Hero's head.

And voila, you get posts like that.

Jack Bauer meets the KKK for some old-time torture and a hangin' at sunrise, in defence of the flag. Ain't that the American way.

Except that I doubt he'd be begging for his life. And then we'd just look like a bully beating up on someone. Which doesn't seem American at all.

Detecting a common thread among the pro-war people besides deference to authority: righteous violence and the goodness of vengeance.

I really shouldn't respond to this, I don't like coming to the RWT all that much but I just had to type down my dad's raving idea on the subject of OBL.

It's raving, I warn you all now.

His idea (if one can call it that) is to capture the man, and then either dress him up in a dress (woman's clothes what have you) or go all out, give him a sex change, then drop him back amoungst his fellow terrorist ho's and let them deal with him, because according to their customs anything contrary to what a man should be (gay, cross dressing, sex change) is a sin in the eyes of Allah and is an immediate death by torture.

Told you it was raving. My dad, sometimes his ideas make me go hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.....

VETERAN

Don't squat with your spurs on.

....umm well.

I'd prefer it was done straight up (no pun intended). Find him and either extract him if possible or kill him. I would want the latter kept quiet so as not to provide him with a martyr's death. Unless he has an endless supply of premade videos everyone will figure out that we finally got him.

I told you it was raving and radical. No more than what some people right here.

But I hope I didn't put ideas into some people's (person's) head.
