I believe in solving problems, not sharing them.

Please view this video. (Feel free to skip the long musical intro.) There is a huge conference going on in Washington DC called "Winter Soldier", and testimony from Iraq veterans against the war. The mainstream media is burying it. ignoring it totally. Voices from Iraq veterans against the war.

"There is no... there is no forgiveness in my book for someone who sits here in American and orders Americans into battle to die and, uh... makes money offa that and profits hand over fist for it and lies through their teeth to keep it going..."

"If people mean what they say with those magnet about 'We support our troops' then this the way we do it. A dollar and a half magnet really doesn't mean anything if you're really just gonna sit on your duff and, ah, feel no stirrings of conscience..."

"An act that took place quite often in Iraq was that of taking potshots at cars that drove by...."

"She was trying to bring us food, and we blew her to pieces for her."

"I am sorry for the things that I did. I am no longer the monster that I once was".

A good group. A fair number of Ron Paul supporters amongst them. Not surprising they're marginalized.

It's a war, these kinda things happen in one, which is why sensible folk try to avoid having one in the first place.

To deny they happen is just stupid - no one should *need* to point them out to anyone who knows anything about war OR history, and the fact that they feel the need says much about the mainstream media complicity in the whole affair.

No sense layin blame, you take folks and mentally mangle them with heavy doses of propaganda and dehumanisation during training, give em weapons and put in in that kind of environment, and the end result is every bit as inevitable now as it's been for the past three thousand years.

I want em outta there, ain't nothin I could say or do to condemn that behavior that they prolly won't do or worse to themselves during the "decompression" process in attempting to re-adapt to civilian life, which will destroy a lot of them, sadly.

But I consider those casualties no different than troops struck by enemy fire - they volunteered to do the job, and it killed em, just took it's time about it with them.

The VA doesn't see it that way, but I do.

We shouldn't be in this mess in the first place, and those responsible should be made accountable, right from the top on down and starting with that pathetic little shrub.

I do too.

I was a pacifist (as in against ALL wars) when I worked with Vietnam veterans. I did it because I considered all soldiers to be the first casualties of war. I may not ever want to go serve, but the least I can do is help pick up the pieces where I can.

I just watched that movie, In the Valley of Elah. Oh god, that was gut-wrenching. Also Home of the Brave touched on the issues a bit, though that contained considerably more propaganda. Ohh!! Lions for Lambs--I loved that one. Shows how corrupt everything is, except for the courage and innocence of some of the soldiers who go.

I've gradually softened my stance to acknowledge that in principle, some wars may be "justifiable." But in reality, I haven't see any war that isn't an excuse for greed, power, and control to run amuck.

War--it's a big pet peeve of mine.

When a sixth of the population of a nation which has undertaken to be the refuge of liberty are slaves, and a whole country is unjustly overrun and conquered by a foreign army, and subjected to military law, I think that it is not too soon for honest men to rebel and revolutionize. What makes this duty the more urgent is the fact that the country so overrun is not our own, but ours is the invading army.

Well, a better one to add to your viewing list is Savior, with Dennis Quaid.

The only way peace can ever be made, is one person at a time - you cannot make peace with a gun, you can only make it in yourself and offer it to others.

I warn you though, might wanna stiff drink or a valium on hand after watching this one, it's a wrencher.

There has been a good bit of coverage overall about the 5th anniversary anti-war protests around here, but I'm not sure I'd characterize the Winter Soldier conference as "huge" in relation to the other stuff going on, or the normal turnout for, say, pro or anti-abortion, Second Amendment, and such. IVAW, which is sponsoring the event, has a membership, per their website, of around 800. Such conferences by small special-interest groups occur all the time with little media attention. I'd suggest it's less a plot than just less than high enough on the news-chain to get mentioned.
