Keep the Shiny side up

Quote:

Iran's top prosecutor has called for restrictions in the import of Western toys, saying they have a destructive effect on the country's youth.

The Prosecutor General, Ghorban Ali Dori Najafabadi, said that toys such as Barbie, Batman, and Harry Potter would have negative social consequences.

Mr Najafabadi wants measures taken to protect what he called Iran's Islamic culture and revolutionary values.

I especially like...

Quote:

"The irregular importation of such toys, which unfortunately arrive through unofficial sources and smuggling, is destructive culturally and a social danger," he said.

Probably the Iranians who smuggle arms into Iraq are swapping them for Malibu Barbie and Harry Potter DVDs.

How about "Stoned To Death" Barbie......for the surviving little sister? After big sis is gang raped by her own brothers and uncles bringing shame to the family which demands her death by stoning.

or

"Whipped In Public" Barbie....for those unfortunate gals who either sit or stand next to a man without a chaperone, or for little girl's teachers who allow them to name a teddy bear Mohammed.

You know, all worth a chuckle, if a dark one...

But on deeper thought, yanno, we SHOULD make these and ship them over there for sale, if naught else it would force a lot of folk to face up to the actions of those within their beliefs, which they should be ashamed of as human beings.

I don't mean the fanatics or the radicals, I mean the common joe average who threw in with them because they are in charge, and the only proven bulwark against foreign meddling.*

Never underestimate the power of ridicule, used properly, it's a hell of a weapon.

*You'd think we'd learn, we're holding up them as a boogeyman to scare our own people and make them cling to the established order, and they're holding US up as theirs.

Oh how much more dangerous for them, more tenuous and less effective, their stranglehold on middle-eastern society would be if we laughed at them instead.

Playboy, Barbies, McNuggets, and Coca-Cola - bomb them with those, and the regime will crumble in no time.

I notice that they don't dig on Harry Potter and want that outlawed as well... and that makes them different from Christian fundamentalists, HOW?

Seems like for once the otherside has told us how to hit them.

What was it that Dick Gregory's said? Something like, "We should have to force democracy on anybody. When you've got something good people will steal it."

Exactly my point. We don't need to bomb Iran with explosives - just deluge them with the stuff we take for granted. Drop McNuggets and Coke on them; when you tell them that's what we consider GARBAGE food, imagine the looks on their faces. Look what it did for the USSR. Look what it's doing to China. All it takes is a little taste of what we throw away every day, and they're overnight capitalists!

And, as an added bonus, it actually HELPS drive our economy. We can trade them food for oil, literally. Or jeans, or crappy Mossimo shirts, or whatever...

Being from Texas n'all, I think we should (politely) bomb 'em with tons of BBQ pork ribs (REAL pork ribs, not that McDonald's crap). Extra sauce please and all the fixin's. We have more than enough BBQ joints 'round here in Austin to do it. And I would personally hand-feed Osama bin Laden a rib bone. A WHOLE rib bone. No sauce. Just sayin'.

Whatta ya know - another Austinite Browncoat!

'Course, bein' Muslim, they're not going to take kindly to pork ribs. Better make 'em beef ribs.

Well, Mike, that's why I wanted pork! Hehe, of course, we could do a surgical strike on certain muslims, if you catch my meaning. No need to waste ribs on the other good folk. Maybe they would like 'tater salad?

Actually according to one of our drivers who hails from that region, you'd do better offering them real texas homestyle chili.

Apparently a lotta folk he knows keep goats as a food supply due to their ability to survive the conditions, and when they get down to eatin em, one of the only things that makes em palatable is serving em spicy-hot.

While not really so much a traditionalist, he considers pork bad for health reasons so he keeps to that one, but it sure doesn't stop him from laying into some good tex-mex cuisine, so it's his opinion that you should go that route.

Not at all a bad idea, cause the sharing of food is a bridge building action in both cultures, and a universal gesture - some of my buddies in the KFORS deployment managed to overcome a lot of cultural and language barriers with chocolate chip cookies!

Heh, if you know anything about soldiers, you know the fastest way to get the full attention of every single one in range is the scent of fresh baked cookies, although the drooling and twitching is kind of an initial put-off, heh heh heh.
