Mickey Moore now belives in God, good for him. He's hopeing God wipes out New Oleans to ruin the GOP convention. He says he's joking, but I hope he eats a whole ham and explodes. Read http://www.businessandmedia.org/printer/2008/20080830000004.aspx What a douchbag.

Why the Republicons would do something so insane as cancel their convention is just further proof it's their turn to take a dive.

Half the N.O.P.D. left town, and Nagan leaped into action by getting into a fetal postion and crying into a phone. This dope is no Rudy Guliani, the Govenor was no help either. You're rite, FEMA dropped the ball, but the local and state government failed big time. Now Moore and other whackos hope this happens again to hurt the GOP covention?

I hope the Superdome & Convention Center have enough toilet paper this time. What shape are the levees in? Will people evacuate this time? What a nightmare for McCain.

You know, it's surprising to me that this sentiment is so rarely voiced. Oh, wait, no it's not. It's more fun (and it makes more political hay) to lay the whole thing at the feet of GWB.

I hate politics.

Looks like Moore will get his wish, Gustuv will finish what Katrina started. The buses are in place and the Federal, State and Local Governments wo'nt make the same mistakes they made last time. If you ask me (You have'nt) Moore and other douchbags who cracked jokes about how happy they are that New Orleans has been distoryed (again) during the RNC in St. Paul, are going to end up looking REALLY bad, not Bush.

You might want to double-check your sources, at least as far as the local government being prepared... Last I heard (yesterday), Ray Nagin still wasn't sure that mandatory evacuations were needed.

And if no other lefty-liberal will say it, I will: Why the hell is this guy still in office? After Katrina, is it really the time to second-guess and wonder if evacuation is the best idea?

The problem with mandatory evacuations is, by the time you need to call for it, it's too late to effectively do it.

Nagin: Resign already; you're an embarrassment.

On the flip side, the state and federal officials seem to be VERY intent on learning the lessons of Katrina. Nagin? Not so much...

Nagan has it easy this time, he's leaving town. He's said anyone who stays behind is on there own.

The Super Dome will NOT be used, in any fashion, as a shelter this time. It's a sports and convention facility, and not designed to be equipped perpetually as a emergency care center.

I know the media likes to portay Obama as some sort of mythical, god like figure, but politicians can't control the weather. It's not a 'nighmare' for McCain, regardless.

FREMDFIRMA

Hmm, Blackwater is hiring temp contractors for the region en masse, you know...

I really don't care for that, there was some ugliness with them last time around that I ain't at liberty to offer details of.

The whole "if you stay, you're own your own" is fine, so long as it's official policy and stated up front, publicly, well in advance.

But this whole mandatory evacuation shit is asking for trouble - last time around some folk came back to homes untouched by the hurricane, yet with the door kicked in and looted.

What's worse, some folk who owned guns had the door kicked in, and ONLY the guns looted, a couple of them from safes, with all other valuables untouched - you can imagine that, plus the *fact* that when they went around doing those confiscations... they had a LIST, you see...

That's given rise to some pretty ugly suspicions and rumors, whether they have merit or no, I couldn't tellya, but given recent histories of abuse of this nature, it's not beyond the pale.

What rips me is that there's NO doubt in my mind that the powers-that-be ARE compiling a list from those currently arming themselves despite how illegal that is.

I also have some concern about the training, fire discipline and general non-weapon preparedness of some of them folk - I'd rate having an exit plan and emergency stockpiles of food and necessities a little bit higher than weapons in the situation, cause ya can't exactly threaten floodwaters with a shottie, can ya ?

The Gov needs to accept the fact that they cannot save us from ourselves without destroying us as individual human beings, and if some stubborn, unprepared jackass wants to stay home and probably drown - we just gotta accept they got the right to do that and leave it the hell alone.

What the Gov SHOULD be concerned with, is the folks who WANT to leave and do not have the means or ability - the elderly, folks with small children, folk too poor to own a car, get them the heck out of there, such as can be done.

We got the loan of a used schoolbus from a baptist church down there in exchange for getting their mostly-elderly congregation out first, which we did, and the guy driving it is as solid as they come, being a former chopper pilot, but I am concerned about him cause I know him, and he's gonna run that gig till the very last minute if he can.

I can't even lecture him about it cause he's seen me do worse.

Anyhow, the Gov should save their concern for the folks that actually WANT it, instead of wasting it on folks who ain't no-how gonna listen to em given how badly they fucked it up last time.

Semi-Related note: Yanno, this does indeed make a good case for having a carrier stationed in the gulf with a liason to the coast guard aboard, doesn't it ?

It cannot be said enough, those who do not learn from history, are doomed to endlessly repeat it

Right with ya there - but I'd still like to have my hands on a weapon or three to make sure that I can hold onto that food and water...

As far as fire discipline, it's good to have, but in a case like this it's likely to be largely unnecessary. Why? Because looting tends to be a crime of opportunity, and if someone is trying to come in your house and realizes that not only are you home, but that you've got the drop on them, they're more than likely to hightail it the hell out of there, and not come back!

How can you honestly say it's not a nightmare for McCain & Republicans? The Convention schedule is in shambles; if they over-react to the hurricane they'll be criticized as politicizing it, and if they under-react they'll be criticized as uncaring and inept.
I'll bet Spike Lee and Sean Penn are there right now with cameras and a script. It's perfect timing for a sequel. They even have a part for Oprah. Right now frantic prop masters are scouring Hollywood trying to find the bandana she wore in The Color Purple. The movie will come out the weekend before election day : How The Republicans Sipped Champaigne And Danced While New Orleans Floated Away. Guaranteed to win an Oscar in April, with President Obama presenting the award with co-presenter Ludacris.

It's a nightmare scenario for Republicans, but it's also an opportunity; if they're seen as "fiddling while Rome burns" again, it's not going to go well for them. However, if they're seen to get it right, REALLY right, and McCain is painted as the hero of Gustav, then it's a brilliant opportunity for them. But either way, it's playing hell with their schedule.

Who was the preacher calling for his followers to pray for rain to ruin Obama's speech? Seems like just a little bit of poetic justice, in a way. New Orleans may come back to haunt the Republicans after all...

Michael Moore was a Jewish politician at age 18, when he was elected to his county school board, and fired his high school principal. He's much more of an insider than he let's on. For years he said 9/11 was LIHOP - damage control vs Alex Jones and Pirate News? Now he's MIHOP, when nobody's looking.

Bush and Cheney are now refusing to attend the GOP Con. That's called TAKING A DIVE. Just like they ordered the military to stand down on 9/11 and read goat stories.

It's just a hurricane. Why don't the GOPS remid folks it was Hillary's barge that breached the first levee?

One thing missing from the current hype: How many of the 100,000 refugees from Katrina are still banned from their homes 3 years later? I.e., ethnic clensing.

Simple solution to hurricanes: Change the building codes for a town under sealevel.

1. Flood Proof: Build a 2-story house or a house on stilts

2. Wind Proof: Concrete rebar walls with locking metal shutters

This also cures looting.

The media mafia's role is to sell the sheeple to be powerless.

They NEVER do interviews of folks who prepared properly. Those must be made fun of as "loony survivalists".

That would mean we don't need Big Brother to save us.

Which means we don't need to pay taxes.

Which means the media would lose billion$ in corporate welfare.

If the GOP wanted to win, they'd have a real convention with Ron Paul allowed to speak, AND get New Orleans all the real help it needs.

And stop Bush and Billary from bombing the levees.
