What happens to the public status of Jesse Jackson & Al Sharpton now in terms of their past historical acceptance by the masses as the Black leadership in this country? By Black people? By the media?

Will future accusations of racism against anyone or anything still be up to them in some way to press the race issue with demands for justice, or insistence on resignations, etc, of those they deem racists?

The big question is does Obama's win make these two, and to a lesser degree Farrakhan & Wright, irrelevant, or does it actually empower them?

Will it become the duty or responsibility of Obama to inject himself as President into any hot issues that arise involving racism accusations?

Would Obama or his staff ever allow these men to dominate the headlines as they have in the past; things like Imus, Duke Lacrosse, Rodney Kingesque situations, etc?

Will Obama remember what Jesse Jackson said; that "Barack was talking down to Black people & that he was going to cut his nuts off?" Obama had to cast aside and silence many of his former friends and allies along the way to his victory. Most of them remained silent, as perhaps they were asked to. But will they all resurface and try to postion themselves as some sort of defacto spokespeople for Obama? WIll the Obama-friendly media cover them? Give them a new forum?

When the most "white" state in the union, Iowa, can vote for Obama, what else do the folks who've made a good living off of using their status to intimidate and spread a form of their own race hatred for profit for decades want?

Well...

I'm waiting for someone to start shouting about religious discrimination against Muslims and Arabs.

It still seems to be socially acceptable to abhor them in many places.

I don't understand where you're coming from. Who's going to be suppressed, and how?

I think the reference is to the Obama SS. Like how Joe the Plumber's private information was taken, from a Gov't computer, and released to the media, w/ out Obama even being in OFFICE yet. The very stuff that W was accused of ad nauseum, but never came to fruition, did so w/ a run of the mill citizenq, when all he did was QUESTION the great O.

If Joe the Plumber had gone back inside his house after the Obama chat I don't think anyone would have cared too much about him. But somehow he became a usable symbol for McCain, and they exploited him by taking him into the campaign. They made him a public figure, not Obama. And Joe liked the 15 minutes of fame, he seemed to like it a lot. Then he's out on the trail speaking in some cases on foreign policy issues? McCain's people put a lid on the wrong person, Palin. They never should have promoted Joe. Once that occurred, I think it was reasonable for people to want to know his background, or any possibly political ties that would have made his confrontation with Obama seem less accidental.

Y'all are gonna be soooooooo disappointed when Obama behaves himself in office. What a bunch of paranoid drama queens! Why do you care so much about Jesse Jackson of all people? What has he ever done to you, specifically? Has affirmative action killed your parents or something? I've heard the right-wing talk about "accusations of racism" like they're some kind of spiritual fatwa that somehow balance out the 400 years of slavery from which our people have yet to fully heal.

Why does Jesse Jackson matter so much to each of you? Why mock the man's tears from Tuesday night?

Blacks have been what compassionate people in this country call an "oppressed people," second class citizens, some fraction of a legal individual, disenfranchised, separate and unequal, racially profiled, etc. White people in this country have not been by any stretch of the imagination equally oppressed. The effects of such discrimination linger to this day.

Of course, Obama's election to President is a HUGE event in terms of race relations. Of course, this single event even in itself will go a long way to heal our national wounds around the issue of race. That's a given.

I wonder what the heck you guys are actually talking about? What violence has been done to you for which you so fervently desire reparations if not revenge?

HKCavalier

Great questions RiverLove.

I doubt racism is going to go away any time soon (may even worsen in some places) so these guys will have plenty to talk about. Will they have the same cache, power? For me no, they seem almost as ancient and yesterday as John McCain did.

I think it would be wisest for Obama to stay out of any race issues, at least openly. I think otherwise he would be playing into extremists's hands. Anything he does that has the slightest hint of favoritism they will use to say, "See!"

Sort of like he "behaved himself" into office...

So "equal oppression" is the standard...

Sounds suspiciously like 'Animal Farm'...

All of the animals are equal , it's just that some are "more equal" than others...

Obama need not cry about emergent racism...Not yet , anyway...

Besides , that's the duty of his sycophants...And their Communist sympathizers...

"...Frank Marshall Davis , Obama's childhood mentor, was a racist kook and member of the Moscow-controlled Communist Party USA. The poetry he would read to young Obama included lines like "Smash on, victory-eating Red Army." Davis believed that American and British "rich industrialists" wanted Hitler to win WWII, so that communists could be oppressed. Nonetheless, the Hitler-Stalin pact did not cause him to leave the Party. His poetry documents his vehement hatred of Caucasians, capitalism, Christianity, and America. In Dreams From My Father, Obama quotes Davis's advice not to "start believing what they tell you about equal opportunity and the American way and all that ####."

"...Sam Graham-Felsen runs Obama's blog. As noted earlier, he is a communist who shares Obama's philosophy of keeping the rhetoric toned down until power has been seized."

These are well-known and True Facts...

There are many more like this...

Gosh - where can us more ignorant types read these "well-known" and "true facts" for ourselves? I'd be interested to read a few of the "many more" like them, as well.

Thanks in advance for any enlightenment you can provide.

Why Thank You !

Thank You Ver-rry Much !

Pleased to be in such fine company !

Here's a thought for the Obama-Lamb-A-Ding-Dongs and Commie Sycophants in the crowd...I send this out to all who're enamored of Barack-O , but more particularly to 'The Man' himself :

" They're all still on their honeymoon
just read the dialogue balloon
everyone loves you--why should they not?
And I'm the only one who knows
that Disneyland's about to close
I don't suppose you'd give it a shot
knowing all that you've got

are cigarettes and Red Vines
just close your eyes, cause, baby--
you never do know
and I'll be on the sidelines,
with my hands tied,
watching the show

Well, it's always fun and games until
it's clear you haven't got the skill
in keeping the gag from going too far
So you're running 'round the parking lot
til every lightning bug is caught
punching some pinholes in the lid of a jar
while we wait in the car..."

Thanks , Joss-fave and Buffy alum , Aimee Mann , for the prescient insights into our Grand Future...

It's a lovely song , Aims , it really is...
You should practice it more , there're going to be a lot of requests for it...
