Sentencing for convicted felon Tony Rezko has been delayed. He is now ready to talk and name names to try to reduce his sentence. This should prove very interesting. I think he's going to help put all the links together. All the major and minor players in the Illinois Gov's scandal are either in hiding or in consultations with their attorneys. Dozens, actually hundreds of aides and staffers are involved, as all this crap goes back at least 8 years. Everyone is going to rat, and it's going to get nasty and cut-throat, that's just how it goes. Blagbigboy better cut a deal soon with the Feds, because if he waits too long he won't have any bargaining chips left.

Many of my political peers are all fired up about the prospect of all this damaging Obama, possibly even eventually pointing to past Illinois shenanigans involving Obama. I tell them that Obama is un-touchable in all this for many reasons. But I do believe that some of his inner circle might have to fall on their swords in the coming months. This smelly onion is only beginning to peel away. Amazingly, The Chicago Tribune is the lead paper involved in these reports and investigations. Obama must be quite pissed off that all this is unfolding just as he is about to be inaugurated. Country doesn't really need this either. Can't help anything....company bankruptcies, job losses, Madoff Ponzi scandal, continuing Wall Street scandals, SEC scandal, Iraq, Afghanistan, Gay Marraige, Illegal Immigration, Russia, Venezuela, Iran, etc etc. What sane person would even want to be President?

Party before Nation - I am amazed at how many people will do that. The selfish, blind, and petty ... we deserve us.

Not all Republicans are like that. While Rush Limbaugh is totally over the line in his un-relenting salivating over all this, others in the tiny sphere of conservative media, like Rove and Hannity, are trying to be fair, and give him every benefit of the doubt. I just want to see the country start to climb out of this gigantic mess that Bush is leaving as his going away present. Politics mean almost nothing to me at this point.

Ah, there's the rub. Now you know why we end up with the kind of people we end up with. Obama never claimed to be free of corruption, during the campaign, he even averred that he was not free of it. Someone was talking about the corrupt vs. the squeaky clean, and Obama said "Nobody's hands are clean." I took that as tacit admission of guilt. But Obama is untouchable because the team is protecting him.

Okay, I admit to not having paid enough attention to know who those are.

Oh, that would be me. But wait Rove and Hannity are hardly moderates. There's a whole swath of the conservative media, the real conservative media, that is all over the map.

There are people who like him because he's very Ronald Reagan, and ones who dislike him for being too much like Bush. It's not all that he's too far to the left.

Actually, if you check the record, not to defend Bush, not something I'm ever going to do except for one second in the next sentence, Everyone leaves a mess for the next guy to clean up. Bush, I'll admit, has left a stunner, but then he inherited a stunner as well. The worst mess ever, if we can skip over the debate between whether hoover or FDR inherited a worse impending or extant collapse, worst ever prize for leaving a mess has to go to Buchanan, who, after all, when asked what to do about the confederates attacking Fort Sumter, said "It's Lincoln's problem now."

Here's my one concession to the political black hole that is our commander in chief: The administration has finally given the green light to federal funding for embryonic stem cell research. This ends that destructive debate. (of course, he could always do a 180 if one of his serpentine Jafar-eqsue advisors says something, you know, the ones who always sound much more like Iago the Parrot.) Anyway, the development by advanced cell in 2005 was perfected in humans last year, than can derive embryonic stem cells without hurting the embryo. Apparently, the emryo just replaces the absent stem cell without any net change. So, I'll toast to that no matter who does it.

And footnote, as for when Bush lost me, it was probably afghanistan, it was a wheedling away, before Iraq. When Hagel stood up and said "This isn't a manhunt, it's a vendetta." The patriot act got me as a "disaster moment" but since it was largely crafted by democrats, I couldn't strictly pin it on the administration. Now to me their all one big blob in collusion for overall govt. power, regardless of party, etc. By Iraq, it was clear to me that the administration was jonesing for another war at any cost, and was trying to corner all the options to preclude anything that might avoid conflict. So I'd say, 2002ish?

Thanks for acknowledging the title, seems like most here didn't want to discuss it however.
I've been around here a few years. Most have not appreciated my input too much, and have had no problem attacking and marginalizing my statements. But that's ok, it's all part of the fun I suppose. Lately, however, perhaps as a result of the election, folks here seem to be less hostile. There's more dialogue, and less insults. I guess winning an election is the ultimate payoff and satisfaction for those that advocate a Liberal agenda. Conservatives can either continue to fight them (a losing battle I believe) or they can find ways to be open and inclusive.

DREAMTROVE

I dropping in 2004, and dropped out in '06 after the start of the anti-individual user threads. I think that took us back to 5th grade, one of four grades that I actually experienced, so, limited frame of reference.

For conservatives, I think that this is a time to reflect, and redefine ourselves, our positions. A solid look at what the Tories have been doing in that regard should be a good side for us. My british friend says that America will never admit that it copies british politics, but it does. Reagan was a Thatcher clone (minus inventing soft ice cream), and Bush has been a Blair clone (minus the cerebral cortex) We could do a lot worse than reinvent ourselves based on the new Tory model, which is basically to look at "conservative" as a core concept and everything that it implies.

If anyone's interested, that topic is probably worth a thread of its own.

Sorry for the threadjack. Just don't know enough about Illinois politics to discuss it. I suspect everyone will be held in suspending animation until the dust settles, and new corrupticians will come in. My guess, Obama and Rahm will remain untouched. Hillary's also from Illinois, but not politically.
