UPDATE:

Shot while handcuffed, face down, begging for his life.

Idiot cop grabbed his gun thinking it was a taser.

Why cops hate videocams and cellphones, and $25-million lawsuits.

Cops orginally lied about no videos working in the train station, confiscated all cellphones on the train.

But someone on a nearby train turned on his cellphone...

Were the riots by police provocateurs to "justify" a police state?

Quote:

Some in the mob wore masks over their faces as they yelled at police. Roughly a dozen stood just a few feet away from police as they screamed at them. Chants included "pigs go home," "the fascist police, no justice, no peace" and "we are all Oscar Grant."

Mandingo Hayes, who is black, said he participated in the protest because "we're tired of all these police agencies getting away with shooting unarmed black and Latino males."

Hayes, 36, downplayed the attack on the police car.

"For a police car to get abused, and for a person to get shot and killed, which would you rather be?" said Hayes, a construction worker from San Pablo.

As the night wore on, Hayes tried calming people down, asking for peace.

The core group of the mob appeared to be about 40 people, several of whom were with Revolution Books, a Berkeley bookstore. A man distributed the "Revolution" newspaper - whose tagline is "voice of the Revolutionary Communist Party, U.S.A." - as he shouted "This whole damn system is guilty!"

I never understood "rioting".

Too many of the "rioters" didn't care about what happened but were just there to loot.

They SHOULD have gone down to the "police" station, took the cop and strung him up.

And shot any of the others that tried to stop them.

Edited to add:

Also, folks, this is what happens in an unarmed society. The cops did this and then were trying to cover this up. An armed citizen could have taken the cops guns away, and turned them in.

That bugs me too Wulfie... but yanno, I don't think they'd like the results any better if one of mine was in the middle of that destructive wave with a megaphone offering polite 'suggestions' on how and where to apply it.

In fact, they'd prolly like it a whole lot less.
Ain't time for that just yet, however - we're not up on box four till we have to be.

The thing I wonder about is if an armed citizen really would stand up to a lawman. Sure, it happens in movies, but in real-life, a lot more people are worried about having charges pressed against them and jail/prison time, let alone that they're drawing on someone professionally trained and experienced with guns.

Not to say maybe someone shouldn't have stepped in, then maybe there wouldn't be a civilian shot here if that had happened.

But if citizens are reluctant to intervene in crimes in progress with criminals (and it's been shown that people have a tendency to not act and mind their business), then I think it's less likely they'll intervene if the crime involves the police.

Realistically speaking, how easily could that have been accomplished, and how would it best have been done? I'm a bit appalled that people didn't resist giving up their cameras more, but to draw a gun and actually try to take control of the policemen in this case seems like it wouldn't end well for the armed citizen, outgunned by the police and in such a charged atmosphere. That's my pessimistic suspicion, anyway.

Has this successfully been done before? How likely is it that police wouldn't just pretend you're threatening them illegally and shoot you down? What if they don't cooperate in spite of having a gun pointed at them?

Sorry Wulf, that really sounded stupid. Armed citizens are responsible to defend themselves, not enforce the law. No one could have stopped the officer fast enough in this case. It was a mistake on his part and he should be punished accordingly.

This reslly doesn't fit into the category of reasons for armed citizens. It does fit into the category of better training and better selection of officers.

I met one local lawyer who made citizens arrests of cops, twice, and lived to laugh about it. City and state cops tried to serve "personal service of process" of civil parking tickets. When he refused voluntary service of process, cops tried to arrest him, so he arrested the cops. When they tried to handcuff him, he put one cuff on the cop. The lawyer dragged the cop to a magistrate for a probable cause hearing, as required in a citizens arrest when cops won't take custody of a prisoner. Cop was pointing his gun at the lawyer's head, screaming he was "going to blow his head off". Magistrate threw out both arrests.

Currently, few Amerikans will open fire on police in self defense of themselves or others.

This will reverse in the next 12 months, as USSA falls into Civil War, under martial law, no food, no gas, no electricity, no jobs, Haliburton concentration death camps, and police atrocities kill more Amerikan sheeple. And the sheeple shed their sheeps clothing.

Thus Communist Obama will ban most guns and ammo in USSA.

"Note that Holder wrote a brief in the (District of Columbia) Heller case supporting the position that you have no right to have a working firearm in your own home."

Byte - I can answer that one, unfortunately.

I recently had an officer (who was already in some deep legal shit for another reason) slap his hand to his Taser and directly threaten me with express lethal intent - only to be looking down the barrel of a Colt .380 about a split second later, and fortunately a law enforcement officer from another agency who was supposed to meet me there showed up about three seconds after that and took him into custody.

Admittedly, I was quite reluctant to do so, and although it would not have prevented me from acting, even more so to actually fire, because let's not pretend the "justice" system isn't rigged in their favor.

At this point in time, no - most people will not intervene, and even when their own ass is on the line face the plain and simple fact that being in the right will often do you no good.

And Wulfie, as for when ?

Remember - four boxes, we went from box one, the soapbox, to box two, the ballot box, and while I've no great faith in Obama, we owe it to the democratic process to at least give him a chance not to fuck it up first, and even then there's still box three, the jury box, where we the people can refuse en-masse to enforce their stupid laws...

So we're still quite a ways from box four yet.

I haven't seen it, but I've heard that there is a video showing the officer pulling out his taser, putting it back, and THEN pulling out his gun.

If this is true, then it was a deliberate execution.

Very unusual to not be charged with manslaughter.

Did the riots have their desired effect?

What kind of cop is named Johannes Mehserle? South African Nazi?

PN, I'm not so sure the riots had the effect - I think more than anything, the VIDEO(s) had an immediate and astounding effect. Kinda hard to deny the signal when it's out on the interwebs for all to see, taken from different angles.

Exactly what I mean when I say we should turn their own surveillance society against them.

And exactly why the powers that be get so pissed when you aim the cameras at THEM.

Indeed. I wonder how the cops would react if I had a dash-cam in my car when I get pulled over. I'm *guessing* they'd tell me to turn it off, rather insistently.
