I recently read some numbers, that there are 23 billion dollars extant, of actual US currency, 600 billion federal reserve notes pretending to be dollars, about 50-100 trillion in ledger balances representing dollars in computers, and a quadrillion in credit based derivatives, equities and debt accruing imaginary interest.

Simple fix:

Take the people of the united state with account balances, and mint new US treasury coins if necessary, and exchange these balances for actual coinage.

do the same for corporate accounts involved in actual business, hiring people, etc. but not in purely financial derivative and credit economy.

Outlaw interest, and dissolve the federal reserve system.

Then have a hero's funeral for the person who actually enacts this, and arrest the bankers for conspiracy.

Just a thought

John, too true. The whole currency is obsolete. I have to say, I think he has hit a world record in currency devaluation. Just like the world record of hot dogs eaten in succession, it's held because a saner man would stop at some point.

A curious historical note I ran into recently. Thought the traditional name is Zimbabwe, and has been for 1,000 years, it was named re-named by the locals "Rhodesia" in honor of Cecil Rhodes. I found this interesting because it's rare, while not unique, but I had the mistaken impression that Rhodesia was a colonial imposition, which it wasn't. Rhodes was immensely popular with the locals. As was Ian Smith, himself a native of course. Smith, which was forced from office by the British govt, at the protest of a large number of the local citizenry, passed away recently. He was only a couple of years older than Mugabe, and was quite well liked. The totalitarian rule began almost immediately, and genocidal campaigns began around 1983. Economy didn't begin to crumble until 1990ish, and dove off a cliff in 1999? When Mugabe proclaimed that whites could not own property, and that it was not a crime to rob or rape a white person. Since 2007, he has unofficially enlisted the RUF as a secondary source of control, raping and looting from any citizen is de facto permitted by just about anyone, and killing and dismemberment by RUF is also ignored. There still is a govt. and a semblence of order, a supreme court, which recently upheld habeas corpus, which is why Tsvangirai is still alive, and in office, though not in power, in spite of winning the election.

Another note: To win an election in Zimbabwe against mugabe is difficult, since you cannot get food from distribution centers if you do not show your voter card showing that you are a Mugabe supporter. Buying food, of course, has become increasingly difficult: See above pictures.

The $100 trillion dollar bill was worth a nickle at the close of business thursday, and a penny at the close of business today.

It hasn't been discontinued, the current black market USD trade has been legalized. Production of the $ZWD will continue, and the final 13 zeroes will be struck. Then new $1zwd will trade along side foreign currencies, at a rate of 10,000 to the USD, and will decrease in value exponentially from there. Currently, inflation is 400%/day.
