Okay,. like three things to say:

1. Cuba is known for its healthcare system, which is probably the best of a socialist state, and one of the best of any socialized medicine programs. Certainly, it's up there with Costa Rica in Latin America. I mean, feel free to hop on over to free market Haiti if for your surgery if you want, but I think that this political paintbrush doesn't do the world justice. As I say when I attack socialism, when the socialists say "Sweden, Denmark" I say "Hey, defend actual socialism, not capitalist democracy that allows parties with the name socialist to run. Defend Cuba, Syria," I mean seriously folks, you could defend Cuba. Defending Sweden is less likely to win an argument for socialism than it will win you one for neutrality.

2. Castro looks good, and it's a catholic country. Anyone who has been to the catholic world knows that ideals and original vision fall by the wayside when they want to actually survive. In most catholic countries, you can burn a black candle in a prayer if you want someone to die. This is of course heresy, and animism, and an anathema to the vatican. But are they going to do anything about it? Hell no. They're barely hanging on to their empire as it is. Ditto for Communists.

3. Jesus Christ, I mean, you're surprised that Castro is a christian communist, I mean really. Anyone notice the Adidas? I mean for a communist. Really. The only one who caught that was Whozit. Hand that kid a bagel.

I don't buy the back story on Cheney, I think he's been in a wheel chair for months, which is why he hasn't appeared in public. Look at it this way, he's not going to fly off to the marshes of Panama now to escape prosecution, like was planned, which saves him from being eaten by the Piranhas which spawn there, in Jenna's little place the locals call "Death Cove."

Actually, Cheney is a miracle of western medicine. He died in 2005, due to bad american cheap chain restaurant food and his never move, rest, or sleep exercise plan, and sans heart or soul, Cheney still exists. I'd say research is coming along pretty far. I mean, people think that a black CIC is a breakthrough, we just had an undead-american as de facto commander in chief :)

Hmm, I would take that bet, except that I think that castro is leading a normal life, and cheney is not that old, but already dead. That's the reason for his sneer. I think that half of his face was paralyzed by a stroke, his mansized safe is a life support unit. He's a perfect counterpoint to the also already dead Osama Bin Laden. So, money can't buy you happiness, but it can buy you miserable extended existance.

But that makes less sense since Cuba is Communist not Socialist. There's never been a socialist state. There's been a few communist ones, and they all have slipped into totalitarian dictatorship. No purely socialist state has ever been tried, and would probably go much the same way as communist ones. But then again neither has Capitalism. There has never been a purely capitalist state, and I doubt one could function. Arguing for Denmark and similar countries for socialist ideals is perfectly ok. They're not simply capitalist democracies, they're Democracies with aspects of both capitalism and socialism, and frankly they're success is due to getting the socialist/capitalist balance right.

There's more to it than "they allow socialist political parties". Most Democracies have a socialist party, or at least one that calls it self such.

To be civil, and of no offense, I'm not reading/responding. I think this is best. I have no problem talking science fiction and other matters with people I politically disagree with, but if two people are immovable objects, for them to butt heads leads nowhere productive, and just wastes both of our time. So, for the sake of efficiency, I've decided to avoid the conflict all together. I won't hold this to other topics, but there's no point in another possibly escalating political exchange, however inoffensive its beginnings may appear. Peace out.
