The problems for populist parties around the world is many turn out to be fakes
the just mix up stuff on abortion, gun control, gayness etc and tell people all these lovely stories they like listening to

THEY TELL YOU WHAT YOU WANT TO HEAR

NO WHAT YOU NEED TO HEAR

for example at one time it migh have been 'popular' to ignore the rise of fascism in Germany/Japan and do nothing about Europe, for example at one time it might have been 'popular' to make black people eat in other diners

Once a country goes through big social change, the populists often look like tricksters

"We'll know our disinformation program is complete when everything the American public believes is false." -- William Casey, Reagan's presidential campaign manager & CIA Director (from first staff meeting in 1981)

It's *MOST* of the things I want in a government. Problem is, how do you make it work?

From the website:

Quote:

In a Populist America, social issues will be decided by you, your family and your neighbors - in your community only. You'll always have the ability to vote with your feet, and move to areas not affected by laws you don't agree with.

We cannot have freedom, peace, and prosperity when the Federal government is telling every American school what to do; when the Federal government is forcing mandates and laws down the throats of state and local governments; and when the Federal government directly taxes every American only to use that money for the expansion of power.

Sounds very... populist, doesn't it? Who DOESN'T want those things? The problems I see right there are the following:

1) Show me a section of the country right now where you CAN'T "vote with your feet" and move to a different area of the country.

2) You don't want the FEDERAL government ramming laws down your throat - but it's okay for local and state laws to be rammed down your throat, apparently.

So it all SOUNDS nice, but it doesn't really hold much water when you start throwing hypothetical real-world problems at it.

When an issue is decided at the federal level, all of them. The point seems to be to localize the issues so such selective participation is possible. That's entirely doable for a good many issues.

If ramming's going to happen, it's better to have it decentralized. Draconian social agendas are less successful when people can simply leave. When a state or local government sees their tax-base evaporating, it tends to get their attention.

Such an approach doesn't work for everything. But it would be nice to reverse the trend and let people decide for themselves when possible.

Um, wasnt that the point? That no matter what, the government would never get large enough to have absolute power?

I'm a Reagan Republican. That means I WANT Little Gov't to have Big power.

And my favorite show is all about Order...but it starts with Law.

Smells a lot like a honey-pot trap to me, they're quite evasive about who owns and runs em, and have convered their tracks well both overtly and covertly.

Which by itself wouldn't mean much, but that in combination with a certain vagueness and no indication of where the money is coming from, let's just say when I have more than a few minutes free (won't be soon, dealin with four DVs) I intend to sweep their connection logs for certain Gov IP ranges.

Please, by all means Frem. Have at them.

I'm curious if they can stand up to the spotlight.

Without revealing the source, I did make some inquiries and it's worth some concern that Will Baker and Willis Carto have connections with it.

I hate Zionistas as much as any reasonable dude, but those guys take it to PN's levels of goofiness, and worse, THEY seem to actually mean it.

I'd not be too keen on the idea of exchanging one set of intolerant lunatics for another, especially since mine own theological beliefs would prolly be offensive to em.

That said, anything that sticks in AIPACs craw, I ain't too likely to waste time interfering with, neither, and boy do they.

Yup, looks like you nailed it. Here's what Wiki had to say about Carto, in part:

Quote:

In 1984, Willis Carto was involved in starting a new political party called the Populist Party. It quickly fell out of his hands in a hostile takeover by disgruntled former associates. Critics asserted that this Populist Party (not to be confused with the Populist Party of 1889) was little more than an electoral vehicle for current and former Ku Klux Klan and Christian Identity members. Olympic athlete Bob Richards (1984), David Duke (a founder of the Knights of the Ku Klux Klan and a future Louisiana state representative, 1988) and former Green Beret Bo Gritz (1992) were the Populist Party's only three presidential candidates. It folded before it could nominate a candidate for the 1996 elections.

Being a Reagan Republican means you WANT Little Gov't to have Big power & better deniability. Oh, and a leader that's just a little out of it.

Best way to keep those nasty checks & balances at bay, eh?

And you want to be able to make bold proclamations like, "We do not negotiate with terrorists" - and make them WHILE you're negotiating with those very same terrorists!
