Kwiks..try at least to be the tiniest bit honest for once. NY Post is not a major newspaper. These are :
NY Times
Washington Post
Los Angeles Times
Boston Globe
Atlanta Journal Constitution

etc etc every city

It's not even close to being debateable. The only good news is that they're all going down the crapper and teetering on bankruptcy. Why? Answer is they put their suicidal ideology before profits. Just like NBC, MSNBC...both invisible in the ratings, losing millions for owner GE (stock down from $40 to $7). They're all just defacto Obama cheerleading squads. The public was bedazzled and lied to daily with their Obama-Lovefest. Trouble is Obama/Pelosi are sinking together, Americans are realizing that Obama is just Pelosi (9% Congress approval) in an historically-important African-American body.

[irony] Yes, we can see how well they support international labor unions and are anti-free-trade and anticorporation. Their incisive questioning of the rationale for the Iraq War put Bush on notice that NOTHING would slip by them! Their coverage of the beating and gassing of peaceful anti-CAFTA demonstrators in Miami and anti-war dockworkers in Oakland was unparalleled. Their questioning of Bush's economic policies was invaluable, and their insight into the shaky underpinnings of the economy and prediction of the coming meltdown was incomparable!

Fifty years into news coverage, and they're still learning! You'll be lucky to get news from them![/irony]

Yanno, I'd be happy just to find a major news outlet that carried real news and did a little digging and a little thinking, instead of being the corporate tools that they are.

JS, you haven't answered my post.

The media- which you claim is so "liberal"- got ALL of the major trends wrong. Every single blessed one! They rolled over on the Iraq war, the deficit, the housing bubble, the "Patriot Act", deregulation, NAFTA-CAFTA-SHAFTA, bloated executive compensation, highly leveraged investments and the hand-in-glove realtionship between the SEC and the regulated community.

Where they were wrong, they were wrong by kowtowing to Bush. Questions and criticisms were FAR too late to do any good whatsoever, cause "the media" knew they owed Bush for his go-ahead on consolidation. (Thank you, Michael Powell.)

So, how is "the media" so liberal? IMHO they can't even see what's in front of their noses, they're just shills for corporatocracy.

LMAO.

Well played Jong, but you don't really buy that shit any more than I do, in fact you're prolly right there with me in hoping for another Eisenhower to rise from the disasterous relic that is the current GOP and show some actual CONSERVATIVE (as opposed to NeoCon) spine while verbally crackin some heads on both sides of the aisle.

I don't think we're gonna get much from dredging the wreckage of the GOP though, we'd do better pulling from the bottom tiers of the Libertarians, cause at the top they seem bent on repeating every GOP mistake in history as exactly as possible these days.

If we absolutely must dredge the GOP, the prospects are bitter - I've done my homework on this, and Howard Baker is just too old, with failing health, leaving only Richard Lugar as a potential prospect.

I don't agree with Lugar too much, but he's a strong conservative voice with actual ideas instead of rhetoric, and his desire to commit to breaking our oil dependancy is a step in the right direction.

Baker was better at negotiating good ideas into place without pissing folks off, and able to hop across the aisle without starting a brawl, something we desperately NEED right now, but the old coots like eighty-some years old and a bit long in the tooth for a presidency, alas.

We MIGHT make do with Lugar, but only if you find a veep who isn't so loony it sends half the nation fleeing in fear to the other side of the ballot box like Palin did.

Depending on how it's floated, you could set up Ron Paul as a potential veep and I bet that'd run up a pretty good amount of support from moderate-conservatives and right-leaning libertarians, giving you a solid core you wouldn't have to pander to at the expense of sound policies.

But that's really the best I can come up with out of the abysmal failure that the GOP has become, alas.

CBS Covers Pelosi Jet Controversy Skipped by Other Networks

On Wednesday evening, CBS became the first of the broadcast networks to cover the controversy over House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's efforts to acquire access to a larger jet than what her predecessor used. CBS Evening News anchor Katie Couric relayed that Pelosi's request for a "big travel upgrade" was coming at a time when "they're cracking down on congressional perks." After pointing out that Pelosi "finds herself on the defensive" as military officials are "grumbling," correspondent Sharyl Attkisson gave attention to House Republican Whip Roy Blunt's concern that the extra seats on such a large aircraft might be used for fund-raising purposes. According to a Nexis search, the only mentions of the controversy on the cable news networks have come several times this week on CNN's Lou Dobbs Tonight and once on MSNBC's Tucker. The REAL story, from FactCheck.org:

Quote:

December 21, 2008
Q:
Did Nancy Pelosi order up a 200-seat jet for her personal use?
Is it true that Nancy Pelosi travels from California three times a week on a private jet (200-seat size) at a cost to the taxpayers of $60K per flight? If so, this would total $480K per month or $5.7M per year. This comes from taxpayer money? If true, how can we criticize others? Is this a good use of taxpayers' hard-earned money and what about the carbon footprint?
A:
The Democratic House speaker normally flies in a 12-seat Air Force jet, just as her Republican predecessor did. This rumor stems from a request by the House sergeant at arms, not Pelosi, for a jet large enough to reach California without refueling.

Reports like this one, saying Pelosi routinely flies about in her own 757-size jet, have been floating around for almost two years. The claims were revived when Democrats complained that CEOs of the Big Three U.S. automakers had used their corporate jets to come to Washington to seek billions in federal aid. But the rumors are incorrect. Spokespeople for Pelosi and Andrews Air Force Base say that the speaker has used the big Air Force jet once, but she normally uses a much smaller plane, the same one used by the previous speaker of the House, Republican Dennis Hastert.

The spread of this rumor – and its first debunking – dates back to February 2007. At that time, the speaker of the House had had access to an Air Force craft for about five and a half years. Hastert had been issued a plane after Sept. 11, 2001, for security reasons (the speaker of the House is next in line after the vice president for presidential succession). Hastert used an Air Force C-20B, a small 12-seater based on the Gulfstream III, to travel to his home district in Illinois. (Ford and GM auto executives, incidentally, travel in the slightly larger Gulfstream IV.)

When Pelosi became speaker, House Sergeant at Arms Bill Livingood, according to his own account, worried that the small craft would be unable to travel to her home district of San Francisco without stopping to refuel. Livingood, who was first elected by a Newt Gingrich-led House in 1995, asked the Air Force and the Department of Defense about getting a bigger plane. He also requested clarifications of other rules regarding the aircraft – for instance, whether family members would be allowed to accompany Pelosi on her flights.

According to ABC News' Jake Tapper, Capt. Herb McConnell of the Air Force said that the C-20B is sometimes able to make cross-country flights without refueling, but that it depends on headwinds. The much larger C-32, a military version of a Boeing 757 that's usually used by the vice president and the first lady, is easily able to make a nonstop flight across the country. But it's also on the lavish side. It's not quite a 200-seater, but it does include 50 business-class seats and a full stateroom with a private lavatory and entertainment system.

We've seen no evidence, however, that Livingood specifically requested for Pelosi to have access to the C-32, which is the largest plane available at the 89th Airlift wing at Andrews Air Force Base. According to his statement, he requested a plane that was able to fly cross-country. Pelosi spokespeople at the time said that the speaker would be happy to use a smaller plane that could make a nonstop cross-country flight.

The Pentagon responded to this request by saying that it would make "every effort ... to provide non-stop shuttle support," but that Pelosi's aircraft access would depend on availability. Officials also clarified that Pelosi's family members and other members of Congress could fly with her, but they would have to reimburse the government for their flights and food, paying the price of a coach ticket on a commercial airline. Pelosi would have to submit a written request for her family or other Congress members to accompany her on flights.

The Pentagon response stoked rumors that Pelosi had requested access to a posh personal craft for herself and anyone she wanted to bring along. Tapper traces the rumor back to House Minority Whip Roy Blunt, who called the C-32 "a flying Lincoln bedroom." That's not a wholly inaccurate assessment of the plane (there's even a pull-out bed!), but Blunt implied that Pelosi had expressly requested such extravagance. White House spokesman Tony Snow called this a "silly story," breaking with congressional Republicans who objected to Pelosi's supposedly over-the-top request. At a press briefing, Snow reiterated that the conversations about plane travel were perfectly routine:
Snow, Feb. 7, 2007: After September 11th, the Department of Defense – with the consent of the White House – agreed that the Speaker of the House should have military transport. And so what is going on is that the Department of Defense is going through its rules and regulations and having conversations with the Speaker about it. So Speaker Hastert had access to military aircraft and Speaker Pelosi will, too.
Pelosi spokesman Brendan Daly told FactCheck.org that the speaker does have access to military air travel. When she flies to her home district, she uses whatever Air Force craft is available. Daly told us that "they try to do a nonstop flight." But the plane Pelosi uses most often is the C-20B, and she has occasionally used even smaller planes. According to Daly, Pelosi once used the C-32 when no other planes were available, but she also has had to stop for refueling on at least one trip on a smaller aircraft. Pelosi's family has traveled with her a few times, but they had to reimburse the government for the cost of their tickets, as stipulated in the Pentagon's letter. Congress members who are traveling to California sometimes do the same. Pelosi only uses the jet to travel between Washington, D.C., and San Francisco on official business. For any other trip, she and her family use commercial airlines.

Update, December 22: After this story was posted, we received word from Eric Sharman, deputy chief of public affairs at Andrews Air Force Base, confirming what Pelosi's spokesman told us about her aircraft use. Sharman said that Pelosi has in the past used the C-20B and the slightly larger C-37A, depending on availability, and that these may or may not be able to make a nonstop cross-country flight depending on conditions. He confirms that Pelosi has used the C-32 once and only once, when no other planes were available.

So once again it appears that (a) Pelosi didn't request her own airliner, (b) the Seargeant At Arms of the House DID look into a plane that could make the hop from SanFran to DC non-stop, due to security concerns in the wake of 9/11, and (c) those concerns and the security arrangements were seen as completely reasonable by the Bush White House.

So once again, RapFacts™ turn out to be just so many CrapFacts.

The scam story you've bought into of " security reasons " , or that you want folks to believe you've bought into , is laughable. Tell me, what serious " security risk " is there in refueling at a military base ? I'm not questioning her use of a plane, but idea that the Sergeant of Arms is where the idea came up for her to travel non-stop. They're all Gov't employees up there, so it's no stretch to see how they all think. Princess Pelosi sent word of what she wanted, and then the Sergeant of Arms was informed of what to say, so as to give cover for the Speaker of the House.

The media accounts want to give the impression Princess Pelosi flies in military grade, spartan furnished stock jets, when in fact, THIS is how she really rolls. Or rather - flies.

Hilarious... "Fears of a Clown"... latest editorial from the NYTimes has it so right on the money. I know Rush-o-mites will decry Liberal Bias Bullshite! But read it and understand: this is what the majority of the nation thinks. DEAL!

http://egan.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/03/04/fears-of-a-clown/?hp

some clips:

Behold:

The sweaty, swollen man in the black, half-buttoned shirt who ranted for nearly 90 minutes Saturday at the Conservative Political Action Conference. He reiterated his desire to see the president of his country fail. He misstated the Constitution’s intent while accusing President Obama of “bastardizing” the document. He made fun of one man’s service in Vietnam, to laughter.

David Letterman compared him to an Eastern European gangster. But he looked more like a bouncer at a strip club who spent all his tips on one bad outfit. And for the Republican Party, Limbaugh has become very much a vice.

Smarter Republicans know he is not good for them. Polling has found Limbaugh, a self-described prescription-drug addict who sees America from a private jet, to be nearly as unpopular as Rev. Jeremiah Wright, who damned America in the way that Limbaugh has now damned the nation’s newly elected leader. But Republicans just can’t quit him.

For Democrats, this is all going to plan. It was James Carville and associates who first cooked up associating Limbaugh with the opposition, as Politico reported. Then on Sunday, White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel said Limbaugh was the “voice and the intellectual force and energy behind the Republican Party.”

So well said - I think Rue had the last one.

Actally, the polling shows Limbaugh to be BELOW Wright in popularity. Limbo's popularity numbers with those under 40 years old hit ELEVEN. Yup, apparently when they say "It goes to ELEVEN," they're speaking of a new low...

So if he's so not popular, then why are all you libs so obsessed with him in the first place? HMMM?????????????????????????????????????????

I guess you all just can't help yourselves. It's your modus operendi to demonize and marginalize anyone who disagrees with you. Do you normally spend the hours of your life fomenting and raging against someone who's so not important? The Obama mafia, in their dastardly quest to distract Americans from their pitiful economic & social policies, have lowered themselves down to the level of attacking a radio show host. How very Presidential of them! What a joke. What a sad bunch of political hacks and cronies.

I know - they should have attacked someone worthy of attack. The gays, for instance. ;)

And I still don't think you've got it figured out; the idea is to brand the Republican party with Rush's version of nationalism and "hope for failure" for America. Rush, while widely disliked, is still a wildly popular talking head, and as I pointed out earlier, he IS the visible head of the Republican movement, whether he likes it or not.

So the idea is to take that association and cement it in peoples' minds. When you think "Republican", the picture that pops into your mind will be the fat, pasty white dough-faced mug of Rush.

I've explained it to you in really simple terms, and you and 'Rap STILL won't get it. We WANT you to defend Rush and identify with him, we WANT you to stand up proudly and say that Rush is all that's good about your party - because we're going to use every word of it against you in the next round of elections!

"Funny how your "facts" always support your agenda ..."

Hmmmm, let me see --- I warned that Iraq was a war of choice, and said it was overdetermined; said torture was occuring by policy of the Bush administration; warned about federal borrowing and debt; repeatedly pointed out the problems of the 'Patriot' Act ... in fact, I was right and AHEAD OF TIME on many important things. And you ? Well, you've actually never been right on anything. Sadly, not even afterwards. I'll match my facts against your delusions any day.

BTW - how's your money doing lately ? And your debts and your home title ? Mine are all just fine, thank you, since I saw ahead of time what was going on and got ready.

I think you need to hear the FULL quote during the original Hannity interview from January 21. You've only heard the 10 second sound bite that Carville is permeating through his media friends. Rush said he didn't know what to expect from Obama, but he had his doubts. He said if Obama would embrace Reagan-style tax-cutting economic policy, then HE WOULD SUPPORT OBAMA'S PLANS. But if he embraced Pelosi-style socialism, he would wish Obama to fail. See the difference Kwicko? So it was a quantified wish for failure based on the "socialism" angle. If you doubt me, look up the interview on Hannity's website. I promise you won't catch a disease.

Also, if you think this is a good strategy against Republicans you better hope & pray that Obama's massive spending works, and relatively soon. But if Rush is proven to be correct in his dire predictions of economic ruin due to Obama/Pelosi's re-distribution of wealth policies, who's going to be destroyed by it? You said the same thing a week or two ago, right? This strategy is desperate and absurd at this point for Obama. Nothing to gain, everything to lose, I believe.

I'm curious - are those interior pics of the ACTUAL plane you (wrongly) claim Pelosi "demanded"? Or are they of some other 757, showing possible configurations for customizing such a plane? And if they ARE of the plane Pelosi used - ONCE - then I have to ask a follow-up question: Don't you have a problem with the U.S. Air Force having such a lavish contrivance in their existing inventory? What on Earth are THEY doing with such a thing, if it indeed is the actual plane in question? Who are they schmoozing with such lavish accomodations?

I only ask because I don't know the answers to these questions, but obviously you do. Right?

Oh, and all I gave were the facts reported by the White House, the Pentagon, Congress, and FactCheck.org. If you want to whine about that, go and whine to them.

Just as you CONVENIENTLY believe Katie Couric - unless she's interviewing that idiot hillbilly Sarah Palin, of course - at which point she's a LIAR!

And what of you, who believe EVERYTHING the White House and the Pentagon (and any Republican member of Congress) tell you, EXCEPT this? What's that say about you? That you're at least as much a gullible ass as you're trying to portray me as, that's what.

Trust but verify. You might remember that. Some dead asshole said it, on one of those rare occasions when he was in his right mind.

The White House, the Pentagon, Congress, FactCheck, Snopes, etc., etc. - they've all debunked your spurious claims, more than once.

Oh, and did you see where John McCain went to Iraq during the campaign, and DEMANDED to be guarded by a company of soldiers, armored vehicles, and no less than four helicopter gunships? Man, the balls of that guy - he's not the Speaker, the VP, or really anyone of any importance, but he DEMANDS to be coddled by the military while he's off on a press junket to try to puff himself up for the voters!

Looks like two can play that game...

Why oh why oh why must websites based on entertainment be tainted and besmirched with all of this divisive political talk? Yes, I commented on the "25 most conservative movies", but that was more out of frustration.

This is supposed to be a website dedicated to our mutual love for a great series. It should NOT be brought down to the level of name calling and bickering. I mean face it. None of your points of view are going to change the other side. Both are solidly rooted in what they believe to be "truth" and as such will not be swayed. Heck, I was stupid enough to think that what I had to say in that other thread would make a difference. But it won't. Liberals hate Conservatives and Conservatives dislike Liberals. That's the way it is. I suggest we put that all aside and concentrate on our mutual interest.

This is just plain sad.

Okay, set aside for a second that the timing of that poll, and the wording, could easily be interpreted by those polled to have been about the election...

Find an example with a person with as high a profile in the party as Limbaugh, saying the same, and you might have a point. Becuase what you present is not a parallel.

I'd also note that the point of the article is for people to stop pointing fingers, and work together in a bi-partisan way to solve problems.... but that part doesn't really mesh with your narrative, so I'm not surprised you'd leave it out.

We punish the bad guys on Wall Street, but never punish the guys in Congress who STARTED this whole god damn mess.

It's undeniable that Barney Frank, Chris Dodd and Chuckie Schumer bear far more of the brunt of the blame than anyone. But not 1 god damn thing is going to happen to them. Where's the REAL outrage at those who started this shit, and spare me the faux outrage at the guys on Wall Street. It was Capitol Hill, not Wall Street, that caused all this mess.
