It's times like these that make me hate certain people.

People up here are PISSED.

And yes, I realize this isn't the mindset of all Americans..... but people up here are really - really pissed.

In other news, Canada has brought home 3 more dead fighting in Afghanistan.

Master Cpl. Scott Francis Vernelli (28), Cpl. Tyler Crooks (24), Trooper Jack Bouthillier (20) and Trooper Corey Joseph Hayes (22) were killed Friday in two roadside bomb blasts in Kandahar province. Eight Canadian soldiers were also wounded. (Department of National Defence)

RIP. And thank you.

That's some funny stuff.Red Eye is an over night, light hearted , off beat program that basically pokes fun at everything. I don't think I've seen them once treat any story seriously. That's kinda the point.

Hey Canada, lighten up, eh?

Did you see the program? I saw a clip posted on youtube, and it didn't strike me as lighthearted fun. I mean, not the kind where you can shrug it off and go "Oh, they don't really think that".

I don't blame Canadians for being pissed. I wouldn't take it too far, though, obviously.

They're just jealous that you guys have Captain Kirk.

Me, I happen to be grateful for Jenny, myself.
(aka, Jennifer Granholm, our Governor)

Not so much for her Governorship, although it's been a rough battle with folks who'd wreck this state just because they can't run it...

But rather for her tenure here as Attorney General, cause she seriously kicked the ass of some really primo scumbags.

Of course, Michiganders tend to have warmer, fuzzier feelings for Canada to begin with, since your tolerance in putting up with us drunken assholes every weekend is a matter of legend.

As for the Canadian military, they always struck me as much smarter and more self-disciplined because they do NOT want to fight, will if they have to, and make a pretty good job of it when they do have to.

That makes a hell of a lot more sense to me from a humanist perspective than the wild eyed hateful intolerance of the US Army that's caused so much needless trouble over there.

Don't let typical American arrogance get to ya, cause thankfully, not *everyone* here in a moron, just most of em.

There is no point in shedding any more blood in this lost war...

The sad thing is the military didn't lose it, it was the damn politicians. Bush and co went on about the US's experience in nation building citing Japan as an example... then they fail to even read the book on what McA did there

Instead they built a failed regime, with a corrupted system and tryed like hell to prop it up.

Thank you all (well almost all) for your thoughtful responses. I admit to being very VERY angry when I wrote that. I'm a little calmer now. It's just hard when your closest ally (whom you helped whenever it was asked) would slap you in the face, and consider it an over-reaction. Colbert and others can do proper satire (which these jerks claimed to be doing) I find it not. Dropping the subject now because we Canadians are a forgiving lot. It's just our nature.

I don't think so. I'm pretty sure it was this one.

Didn't strike me as light-hearted. They just wouldn't stop, going on about these plans for a break and then taking it right to Canadian culture (mounties, etc.) went on and on, and it just struck me as a bit too tasteless and unrelenting to be considered lighthearted.

MAYBE they meant it to be lighthearted, but they failed at delivering it that way, which really just made it seem like a bunch of arrogant people insulting another country.

Really reminds me of situations where an offensive joke falls flat and the offending party insists that it's everyone else who lacks a sense of humor. Sometimes, it's really just not funny.

It's an OVERNIGHT t.v. show, which means they're just trying to kill time from 1am to 5 am. ( or how ever long the damn show lasts ). Their viewer ship is , by its very nature, down at the bottom, because 99% of the population has gone to sleep during the time it's aired.

The "joke" was that an army is taking "time off", and going on vacation. I'm sure there's some taking out of context going on , or else the joke couldn't work. As one guest host said, " I thought ( Canada ) was where you go when you DON'T want to fight ".

Is it a swipe at the Canadian military ? OF COURSE IT IS ! Missed by pretty much everyone here feigning indignance is the fact that, in the midst of poking fun at our FRIENDLY neighbors to the North, praise was actually given to those who serve.

I'm guessing it could be said that there are bad shows all around. This segment of this show was just not funny. I watched it, I cringed at some of the stuff that was said. Yes, they were catering to the lowest common denominator, they were using stereotypes in an attempt to get a laugh. Comparing Mounties in the stereotypical sense (red coat, funny hat, riding a horse) to US law enforcement is just rediculous. Poorly chosen jokes that happened to coincide (not on purupose) with the return of fallen Canadian soldiers. I don't blame the Canadians for getting upset, Rap. That's all there is to it.

Let's face it. The one guy from Twitter was being a jerk no matter how you look at it. Doug Benson was mildly amusing, but c'mon . . . he was probably so high he didn't really know what he was saying.

**EDIT** Please don't take any offense to my remarks about the Mounties. I was tryin to get a point across about what the guys on the show were saying. I respect any kind of law enforcement and think the Canadian Mounted Police are pretty cool.

Dude, the Mounties rock.

Back when Marcus Lawson was forced to retire for actually doing his job down at US Customs, and most Americans wouldn't dare report a child predator/exploitation site for a very real fear *they* would be arrested for daring to report it...
(still a major problem, btw)
And even if they didn't, they would just backfile anything where the perps were out of US Jurisdiction out of typical american arrogance and/or ignorance of how to proceed against someone located out of country.

Enter the RCMP, who, from 2000-2005, were about the only folks you *could* go to who might do something, and would act quickly and professionally both due to their character, and at the time, a lot of suppressed ire at their own government for soft-shoeing enforcement on this crime as badly as the USA was.

In fact there's still a lot of lingering resentment at being yanked off several international investigations of this type by higher-ups who did not want to offend well connected EU officials.

It takes a lot for a a collective (police/law enforcement) whom I naturally have a dim view of to earn my respect, but the RCMP earned it well and proper for being the go-to-guys* for over five years.

And despite my issues with police in general, and the RCMP being as human and prone to failure as anyone else, I have found their conduct to be far, FAR more polite and respectful than any American cop I've ever encountered save one.

So Huzzah for the RCMP, leastways from me.

Does it lump them in with the "pundit" bunch? Absolutely. Right there with Limbaugh, O'Reilly, and Hannity; Matthews, Olbermann, and Maddow serve the same function, only on the left instead of the right.

Do they need to "go away", all of them? Nope. I don't think I've called for any of them to "go away". And if you can't remember who said that they should, you can rest assured that it certainly wasn't me. Freedom of speech, to me, means freedom even for speech that I may find offensive. Garbage, after all, has the right to be garbage.

Just something else to ponder... (Hey - you trying to step on my lines? )

Okay Citizen, we all get it. You won the internets. Why not celebrate by not responding to almost every one of Auraptor's posts.

Once again you have made the mistake of equating an anti-Citizen post with a pro-Auraptor post.
You just keep following Auraptor around with your new sig, that's not trollish at all.

Just because you're pathologically stupid, doesn't mean you have to prove it with every post. You just keep following all non-fascists around and personally attacking them, since that's all you've got. (BTW, it's browncoat, not brownshirt, obviously you've got the two mixed up )

Again you choose to side with real monsters against people whose politics you don't like. You just carry on being the biggest hypocritical troll on this site

You're joking right? For someone who can remember statements others made months ago, it's funny how you can't remember what you said less than half an hour ago. Really if you can't remember it, posting them again isn't going to change anything, it's clear you're the typical far right lunatic who considers anything ok as long as he's doing it.

It's obvious that you're a worthless troll, whose only contribution that could make this site better would be leaving it. So saying that isn't a personal attack.

Nope, though I get that your ultimate goal is to try and chase all those you don't agree with away.

But whether I stop posting or not is immaterial. You make virtually no on-topic posts and spend your entire time trolling. Plus you tell people they're a terrible person for doing the exact same things you do all the time. But then, you're not even a real person, being just someone else's sock puppet. Not that that lets you off...

Well, damn. The video was removed "Due to terms of use violation", whatever that means, so I have no idea what you're talking about.

All I can say is all governments suck; Dumbya rooked you into this war 'cuz of all kind of political things which had NOTHING to do with whether the war was justified or not, just as is true of all our "allies" who had to send troops AND is true of the American people. My apologies; wouldn't have been that way if it weren't for politicians and war mongers like Cheney. Don't blame us all for our politicians' assininity...or I guess we'd start blaming you for YOURS! If anyone knows where the video can be found, I'd like to see it and make up my own mind.

Oh, you should've been here a little over a year ago, Niks. 'Rappy the Wonder Clown was amazingly funny. You wouldn't have BELIEVED the crap he spewed on a daily basis. One of my personal favorites was when he went on for hours about how 95% of the American people pay no taxes whatsoever. No matter how many figures we threw at him from the IRS, he kept insisting that he was right, they were wrong, and we were all too stupid to admit it. :)

It wasn't too long after Obama's inauguration that he ran away from RWED and went to hide under a rock for the next four or more years... His claim was that he was being treated unfairly here, and he didn't want to play anymore since we wouldn't play by his rules, which he would arbitrarily change at a moment's notice. I believe the last image I left him with on the way out the door was this one:

It seemed appropriate. Still does. :)

Mike, yes, it is assinine, but then so much on Fox Noise is, so it's no surprise. I'm glad I missed what you mentioned; I avoided political forums and commentary during the Dumbya years, it sickened me so much that the American people had bought so easily into an administration as inept and bent on the destruction of all our values to achieve it's agenda. So I avoided it...and a lot of news as well...not good for my sanity!

Back to the original topic: Gino, it's been removed from there too. I'd really like to see it--anyplace you can suggest? --Ah, I found it on Google. SICK! If that's considered satire, it's horrible satire, and "the most powerful country in the UNIVERSE" sickens me, too. All the put-downs are pretty pathetic. Tho' I did appreciate the few reality-based, complimentary comments offered about Canada. Just generally: Pathetic. Typical of ClusterFox's quality. Disgusting American superiority complex. Just plain not humorous.

It did cause quite a furor...in my opinion, well deserved:

Quote:

The American talk show host who sparked national outrage with a satirical segment trashing Canada's military has apologized for remarks he says were "misunderstood."

But it wasn't enough to calm the storm of controversy.

One of Greg Gutfeld's fellow panellists on Fox News' Red Eye show, Doug Benson, was barred from scheduled acts at an Edmonton comedy club after the manager received threats of violence against Benson.

And the Royal Canadian Legion, representing thousands of war veterans and serving soldiers, insists the lukewarm apology isn't enough to make amends.

"I realize my words may have been misunderstood. It was not my intent to disrespect the brave men, women and families of the Canadian military, and for that I apologize," Gutfeld said in a written statement.

Describing Red Eye as a "satirical take" on the news where all topics are treated in a "lighthearted, humorous and ridiculous manner," Gutfeld insisted the Mar. 17 episode was not an attempt to make light of Canadian military efforts.

In the five-minute segment, panellists took turns mocking Canadian soldiers, suggesting they want a break from duty to get "manicures and pedicures," to practise yoga and to prance around in "gorgeous white capris." The piece aired after Canadian Forces army chief Lt.-Gen. Andrew Leslie told a Senate committee troops may need a year to recover from the gruelling Afghan mission when it winds down in 2011.

The segment drew wider attention after it was posted on YouTube, and after four more Canadian soldiers were killed in the line of duty.

Benson, who laughed during the piece that he didn't even know Canada is serving in Afghanistan, was scheduled to appear at Edmonton's The Comic Strip April 3-5. But the shows were cancelled yesterday after the owner received threats of "bodily injury" toward the American comic.

"Some were saying he wouldn't make it from the airport to the club. For everyone's safety, we decided it was best to avoid the scenario altogether," Rick Bronson said.

Calling the segment "crass" and "insensitive," Defence Minister Peter MacKay said American officials and most citizens are extremely grateful and respectful of Canada's contribution in Afghanistan and that the show represents a narrow, off-side opinion. His department contacted Fox News seeking an apology.

Not his intention to disrespect??? Disrespect is what satire is all about, for heaven's sake. The non-apology apology was also consistent with Fox Noise's attitude. I'm not surprised you guys were pissed off. We have altogether too common a superiority complex where Canada is concerned down here, and it's always shamed me.

Agent:
Quote:

Didn't strike me as light-hearted. They just wouldn't stop, going on about these plans for a break and then taking it right to Canadian culture (mounties, etc.) went on and on, and it just struck me as a bit too tasteless and unrelenting to be considered lighthearted.

MAYBE they meant it to be lighthearted, but they failed at delivering it that way, which really just made it seem like a bunch of arrogant people insulting another country.

Geezer:
Quote:

Not funny and not in good taste. Being pissed would seem to be an appropriate response.
Pizmo:
Quote:

Like so many things that netwonk tries, they failed utterly and completely at even the most basic thing they were attempting, be it *news* or in this case *humor.* I HOPE that is what they were trying and failing at, because if it wasn't then what a group of dirtbags.
Rip:
Quote:

I cringed at some of the stuff that was said.
That about covers it for me. Raptor's attempt at defense/diffusion is actually almost funnier, to me. Equally pathetic, however. If he weren't so ugly/vulgar, Citizen would be too, but his is obviously defensiveness, which is worthy of pity, little else.
