GEEZER

Keep the Shiny side up

I got this in an email from an aquaintance.

I post it without comment at this time, just spoilering out the answer, to see what reactions it gets.

Quote:

WHO AM I

I was born in one country, raised in another. My father was born in another country. I was not his only child. He fathered several children with numerous women.

I became very close to my mother, as my father showed no interest in me. My mother died at an early age from cancer.

Later in life, questions arose over my real name.

My birth records were sketchy and no one was able to produce a legitimate, reliable birth certificate.

I grew up practicing one faith but converted to Christianity, as it was widely accepted in my country, but

I practiced non-traditional beliefs & didn't follow Christianity, except in the public eye under scrutiny.

I worked and lived among lower-class people as a young adult, disguising myself as someone who really cared about them.

That was before I decided it was time to get serious about my life and I embarked on a new career.

I wrote a book about my struggles growing up. It was clear to those who read my memoirs that I had difficulties accepting that my father abandoned me as a child.

I became active in local politics in my 30's then with help behind the scenes, I literally burst onto the scene as a candidate for national office in my 40's. They said I had a golden tongue and could talk anyone into anything. That reinforced my conceit.

I had a virtually non-existent resume, little work history, and no experience in leading a single organization. Yet I was a powerful speaker and citizens were drawn to me as though I were a magnet and they were small roofing tacks..

I drew incredibly large crowds during my public appearances. This bolstered my ego.

At first, my political campaign focused on my country's foreign policy. I was very critical of my country in the last war and seized every opportunity to bash my country.

But what launched my rise to national prominence were my views on the country's economy. I pretended to have a really good plan on how we could do better and every poor person would be fed & housed for free.

I knew which group was responsible for getting us into this mess. It was the free market, banks & corporations. I decided to start making citizens hate them and if they were envious of others who did well, the plan was clinched tight.

I called mine "A People's Campaign" and that sounded good to all people.

I was the surprise candidate because I emerged from outside the traditional path of politics & was able to gain widespread popular support.

I knew that, if I merely offered the people 'hope', together we could change our country and the world.

So, I started to make my speeches sound like they were on behalf of the downtrodden, poor, ignorant to include "persecuted minorities" like the Jews. My true views were not widely known & I needed to keep them unknown, until after I became my nation's leader.

I had to carefully guard reality, as anybody could have easily found out what I really believed, if they had simply read my writings and examined those people I associated with.

I'm glad they didn't. Then I became the most powerful man in the world. And the world learned the truth.

Who am I?

It's an incredibly inaccurate depiction of the person in question.

I was thinking Ronald Reagan, but that didn't quite fit... He was never a champion of the poor.

Then I thought of Hitler, but all the stuff about his being in prison is rather conveniently left out, as well as his military service record.

and I don't really recall Hitler calling banks and corporations evil - just the Jews were evil. He was only too happy to get in bed with the banks and corporations; just ask Prescott Bush and Henry Ford!

He rallied against the banks, but that was also the whole Jewish banker thing. Actually he pretty much parroted the head of the earlier German Governments excuses for why they brought the nation to ruin.

It also leaves out the whole getting beaten by his father issue.

Seems to me it's putting a vicious spin on the generalities of Obama's life, then saying "Hitler" at the end of it. It's a fairly standard political attack peice: Obama==Hitler.

Hello,

My favorite Jackie Chan movie was Drunken Master (Drunken Master 2 in some places?)

I thought the fight choreography was very good, and the fight scenes themselves carried an intensity unnusual for a Jackie Chan flick. There were moments where he seemed to get angry, which we rarely see. His mother in the film was also a funny character, carrying some old school comedy.

My favorite Jet Li movie, incidentally, is Fist of Legend.

Drunken Master is mine too. Been a while since I've seen it, but it was the perfect platform for Jackie Chan's style, and also had an engaging story. I particularly enjoy the very last fight sequence, it manages to be really funny and really intense all at the same time.

That was tops as far as fight scenes go, definitely (The U.S. release is titled Legend Of The Drunken Master). But Who Am I? is no slouch in that department either! And it was great to see Jackie do Drunken Boxing in Forbidden Kingdom!
However, Shanghai Noon has the perfect balance of humour, fighting & story...

Hello,

I really did enjoy Shanhai Noon. I lament that we will not get to see Shanghai Dawn because of the poor returns on Shanghai Knights. I was really looking forward to seeing the Shanghai series capped off in China.

I though Noon was a truly great movie, not just a great Chan movie, sadly, I thought Knights was merely a good stupid movie. I never even watch it anymore because it pales so beside the original IMO.

Hello,

In terms of the thread's intended purpose, I am patiently waiting to have the author reveal it.

If it was to guess 'Who Am I', I had it spoiled for me, as I frequently copy/paste web pages onto text editors for patient reading at my leisure, and sadly the 'invisible text' was rendered quite visible. To be honest, though, I doubt I'd have guessed it anyway.

I initally saw the "Who Am I" email as relating to the earlier "Pirates cause Global Warming or Correlation and Causality" thread, i.e. just because there are similar events in two folks lives doesn't mean they're the same type of person.

However, after noting Chris's massive attempts to change the subject, and noting that he's a universally recoginzed pimp for the liberal establishment, I have to consider the possibility that maybe Pres. Obama is channelling Herr Schickelgruber.

I think he was trying to make a comparison to Obama, as in the raised outside his country, neglect from the father, a claim about not caring about the lower class while at the same time serving them, the public speaking ability...

Except Obama is not Hitler, for several obvious reasons (the time that he lives, appearance), and some ideological (not blaming a certain ethnicity of banker for losing a war, support for the Isreal government, America not newly united after oppressive monarchy and landlocked by seemingly hostile nations).

Similarities in a public figure's personal life to another individual does not suggest the same choices will be made. There are too many variables.

Weren't democrats comparing Bush to Hitler for his invasions of our privacy, detention without trail, and interrogation techniques a few months back? Seriously, NO ONE IS LIKE HITLER EXCEPT HITLER. The comparisons diminish the suffering that Hitler's victims had to endure, whether they were Jew, Polish, Russian, homosexual, socialists, or political dissenters.

I had it sooner than half way to the "Jew" line, so maybe I've seen it before - or maybe I'm just more observant than all these liberals. Was an obvious parallel to obama, tho. Of course some conveniently forget that Reagan championed for the poor actors as President of the Screen Actors Guild, and leading Democrat of the day. Then he woke up and became reasonable and conservative.
