Okay, somebody really, seriously needs to get their ass FIRED for this stupidity...

And yes, stupidity on that level IS a firing offense.

What I want to know is, who thought up a stunt like this and DIDN'T think it would cause any concern, if not outright panic?

I get that they wanted a good photo op with AF1 flying around the Statue of Liberty. What I don't get is how anyone could be so bone-headed about how they went about it, and didn't bother to alert much of anyone, especially the general public.

Louis Caldera is our dear and fluffy leader? Was there a coup? Has Alexander Haig been notified?

Quote:

White House Military Office Director Louis Caldera apologized for any panic caused by a flight mission and photo op that looked like Air Force One and fighter jets heading toward the New York City skyline Monday morning.

Caldera said he approved the mission last week and that federal authorities took the proper steps to notify state and local authorities in New York and New Jersey.

Time to take out the trash. Adios, Louis, and don't let the door hit ya in the ass on the way out!

ETA: Even the ever-liberal MSNBC and Keith Olbermann are calling for Caldera's job now. Countdown just named Caldera today's "Worst Person In The World" and called for his immediate resignation. Gotta say I agree wholeheartedly, and on this one, even those on the right might agree with Keith!

Clearly, after viewing all who posted in this thread, only one would nail the answer.

And, again, the only bird designated Air Force One is the one POTUS is currently on, whether a 747-400SP or a single engine Piper Cub, or glider for that matter. Whirly birds with POTUS are Marine One. Obamination was not aboard this plane.

RE: Missing the point entirely.

Yes, BUSH screwed up. It's a bit refreshing that you can finally admit that, although it comes about 8 years too late... And yes, we absolutely CAN call a screw-up when it happens - as I did here, even before you posted about it.

I mentioned Tenet as illustrative. You have always been willing to give Bush the benefit of the doubt - when screw-ups happened on his watch, it was ALWAYS someone else's fault (if you could find it in your tiny little lizard brain to admit that there even WAS a screw-up). However, you've NEVER extended that same benefit of the doubt to Obama - and I suspect that's for no reason other than his party affiliation.

You're right, but at the end of the day, you're going to find one guy whose idea this was, and who pushed it through. If there WAS any opposition, or anyone trying to speak reason to idiocy, they got steamrollered. Find that guy who pushed it and overran any opposition, and shitcan him, right now, today.

9/11. Katrina. Abu Ghraib. Guantanamo. Iraq. The housing crash. The economic collapse. All of that squarely on Bush's shoulders. Every single little thing that the White House had ANY part of, it all goes straight back to Bush, right?

What's starting to really irk me is what I'm hearing the possible COST was of this little stunt. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but somewhere in the vicinity of $300,000.00!!!!!! What the FRAK?? Then someone mentioned this morning that you need to add in the lost time and labor of the people who were evacuated out of buildings for two hours. That's lost revenue for those companies.

THEN I saw the video and the mass panic it caused and that just made my blood boil even more.

THEN! I heard the bumbling Bob Gibbs, White House Press Secretary, tell a reporter who asked him about the fly-by that the reporter should contact the White House for more info. HUH? Bob Gibbs IS the press' contact for the stinkin' White House!

THEN! I heard clips of several other people in charge say they didn't know about it (Obama & Napolitano), that it was the FAA's fault (Schumer), or that questions needed to be asked of the military (Gibbs).

What a freakin' joke.

Okay . . . there . . . I vented. Carry on.

Tell me again how it is that Bush EARNED the benefit of the doubt, in your eyes.

C'mon, Ripper - step your game up! :)

When we say "Katrina", that's generally understood as shorthand for the aftermath of the storm.

When we say Bush is responsible for Iraq, we don't mean he's responsible for the country of Iraq coming into existence - he's responsible for the invasion and its aftermath.

Well, that's common sense, sure. But I've heard people (not here, mind you, but as I'm new it MIGHT have been said I just never knew it) claim it was Bush's stance on Global Warming that led to the atmostpheric conditions that created Katrina. Ya know . . . THOSE nutjobs.

While I do think that global warming will lead to nastier storms and more violent pendulum swings in weather patterns, I'm under no illusions that global warming is the reason we have hurricanes. Katrina wasn't really even that strong, as hurricanes go.

It's damn near impossible to point at a single storm or event and say, "Yup, there ya go - global warming." That's why I laugh every time there's a freak snowstorm in April, and the nutjobs come out of the woodwork: "See? Global warming is a HOAX, and this one weather anomaly PROVES IT!" First off, it doesn't. It. Just. Doesn't. Most of the global warming models I've seen predict WILDER swings in temperature variation - fewer cold snaps, but colder when they come. Fewer snowfall events, but much more snow falls when it does occur. Things like that. And the general trend is warmer temperatures on average.

By the way, you know how much of a difference an average temperature change of 2 degrees can make, on a global scale? According to many scientists, the average global temperature during the last Great Ice Age was just two degrees cooler than today. So two degrees warmer could be a really bad thing, eh?

Of course, the question isn't whether the climate changes. The ice ages show us that it indeed does. The questions are, do OUR activities have an impact on the global climate, and if so, is it a negative one or a positive one? There are some who say that we're actually in a period of what SHOULD BE global cooling, on the way to the next period of ice ages, but that man-made global warming is actually keeping the temperatures up, and thus keeping us alive!

So there's all different ways to look at that particular problem. Each of them have their own pitfalls, too. But that doesn't mean they shouldn't be examined...

I've been thinking about this lately.

There are minuses, and plusses. What comes to mind over the last 5 terms and 20 years ? (Bush, Bush, Clinton, Clinton, Bush) ...

The administration teams worked like well oiled machines. You have to think that there were plenty of old hands doing the same old - same old. Disappearing into the woodwork of the bureaucracy, re-emerging like cicadas in 15 years, only to tunnel back in at another place .... So while the presidential faces changed, what got done - didn't.

Obama's administration, for better or worse, has a lot of new people. It may really BE change ...
