So GOP "rising star" John Ensign came out about his affair. This is the same guy who called on Bill Clinton to resign after acknowledging that he did indeed "have sex with that woman, Miss Lewinsky", and who called for Larry Craig to resign after his "wide stance" arrest in a men's room in Minneapolis.

So what are the odds that he'll live up to the example he holds others to? Will he do "the right thing" and resign, or is it different when it's him he's talking about?

Inquiring minds want to know!

Really?

Quote:

Republican Sen. John Ensign of Nevada has stepped down from his leadership post one day after admitting he carried on a marital affair with a woman who was on his campaign staff.

What am I missing? It says he stepped down from his LEADERSHIP POST, not from his Senate seat.

Am I wrong here? Has he quit the Senate as well?

Good question. I saw the word resigned in there and assumed. It'll come, I'm sure.

"This is a good death. There's no shame in this, in a man's death. A man who has done fine works."

I think Frem will agree with me on this one - it's not the affair that rankles; it's the hypocrisy. He's called on others to resign over the same kind of conduct he now admits to. Let's see if he has the power of his convictions.

Indeed.

Of course Mikey it all loops right back to what I have always said - the harder you try to repress your humanity, the more warped and twisted the form in which it finally expresses itself.

That's why I got such an issue with moral puritan types in the first place, it's an inherent denial of humanity and guaranteed to twist and warp it, cause it's so much a part of us it cannot be destroyed, in fact should be EMBRACED rather than shunned, something Alice Miller brings home in every single thing she writes, in ways no one can deny.

(obligatory theme snark)
And it was that, the denial of humanity, which caused the downfall of the jedi, and for their arrogant stupidity and foolish ignorance of trying to cast aside the one and only thing that was the REASON FOR THEIR EXISTENCE IN THE FIRST PLACE - they got exactly what they deserved.
(obligatory theme snark)

As for this creeper, nope, like every other one of these goons he'll sleaze and slide, and finally only give up the post when completely forced to, and even then jump right back on board as a lobbyist - while making some bucks on the side with jimmy swaggart crocodile tears telling everyone how reformed he is by "gods grace" yadda fuckin yadda...

I don't *pretend* to be anything but the nasty little bastich that I am, cause for all that everyone decieves others by necessity in our disgustingly sociopathic society - lying to yourSELF about it, is the surest road to self destruction.

And boy howdy, do I enjoy watching the bang when it happens.

Okay folks . . . brace yerselves. Someone alert Rue.

Ready?

I agree with Kwicko on this one. Ensign did indeed call for others to resign over similar actions, so he should do the noble thing and resign as well. Not just from his leadership position, but his Senate seat as well.

See? This is one of those WE ALL SCREW UP instances. He was wrong, he apologized, but he should hold himself to the same standards he held everyone else to.
